this is great, except for the incorrect pronunciation of 'her' and 'mehr' which should rhyme with 'hair', not 'here'.

Claire Kurdelak actually it is the correct pronunciation. “Herr” (Sir, Lord) should rhyme with “hair” but “her” (hither, here) does indeed rhyme with “here”, as does “mehr”.

"Herr" and "her" should sound the same. Bot rhymes with hair and not with here. As a german i know for sure.

@@pseudonym385 Obviously, not all Germans pronounce German in the same way. Listen to the Kammerchor Berlin:

      Or Acapella Ammersee:

Also, note how 'her' rhymes with 'mehr'. Would you rhyme 'mehr' with 'Herr' too??
Your neighbouring country, the Netherlands, is about five times smaller than Germany. Yet the pronunciation is wildly different between northern, middle and southern Netherlands. I guess it is no different in your country.
Brahms was from Hamburg (very northern); the poet Paul Speratus was from Baden-Württemberg (very southern). I guess it is pretty hard to claim a monopoly on knowledge about how these vowels 'should' sound.

"here" has wide pronunciation variation among English speakers. For example, some say here rhymes w/ 'ear.'
