I'd score him a 1 for his reg recovery... the reg is out of his mouth and behind his shoulders before he's blown a single bubble, which means he's holding his breath and he does so for large parts of the skill. You are supposed to continually blow small bubbles, not hold you breath, blow a few bubbles and then hold your breath again.
@Cy Phvren He draws attention to “blowing bubbles” and, if you then watch all the exercises that come after, he “bubbles” every time his regular is out of his mouth. I have nothing but praise for his instruction and don’t think that I would have qualified with my watching this video.
This instructional video is actually very clear for people who came here for a recap before they go for their next dive. For those who find it difficult to understand the 'sign' languages under water, you could probably search for 'signs for diving' and understand those hand signs first before continuing on the video. Of course, for those who are really good at guessing the signs, you probably could understand it pretty well:)
Hand signals are amazing but he breakers the rules of breathing I got my certification through NAUI and they say to never ever ever hold your breath on scuba
you are not suppossed to hold your breath. I feel the only reason he was is because he was in a pool doing an instructional video. Thats one of the first things I noticed as well.
He doesn't hold his breath! If you check at ruclips.net/video/ZRVktsXO9FI/видео.html he shows that the third thing to do is to remember not to hold your breath and keep exhaling!
Very professional and well executed, except for one exercise: "Out of Gas" (at the ~9:57 - 11:20 mark). At the 10:35 mark, the "student's" air supply is out and she has switched to using the "instructor's" back-up reg for air. She then locks grip with her buddy, and raises her BCD control (left) hand as if she is going to use the LP inflator to inflate her BC and rise to the surface. The problem is that if truly out of gas, then the LP inflator is useless, and quite possibly detrimental when she presses the valve open button. Her BC may dump precious gas, making her task to rise to the surface harder. The demo should show the student manually inflating her BC to rise while her buddy keeps ahold of her so they don't drift apart. Thanks for the great video. I appreciate the great refresher!
The mask water draining part is less frustrating in a pool if the student fails to clear it. But i have seen students panicquing in salt water. Because the salt water hurts in your eyes. So if someone is failing to clear it. Is dealing with the salt burn for longer
The Part that got me thinking was about clearing the water of the mask. I saw a video from Someone taking the first open water five with the instructors. And the student started panicking. Because he couldnt clear the water of the mask. And here in the pool. If you fail to clear it, is not a big deal. But in Salt water... hurts. So the person kept releasing bubbles and wasnt being successful. And the salt pain persist. Uff that gotta be a bad frustrating moment
I don't dive but I found this fascinating. Also, impressed by the patient way you responded to nit picking commentators, who are quick to criticise but not so quick to post their own vid of how they feel it should be done...
I went diving for the first time in cozumel and now I want to get certified for open water, I'm fifteen and this has helped me prepare for the lessons.
Some people have said it here already, and i understand that yes we tell beginners the most important rule in diving is never hold your breath, but as you get more experience you realize this isnt actually the case. However, speaking as an instructor (PADI MSDT), during the demos of the skills for your brand new open water students, any time that the regulator is out of your mouth under the water, you need to be blowing bubbles. Not holding your breath and blowing intermittent bubbles. Constantly blowing steady non stop stream of bubbles. Im talking about the demonstration portion. What we show to our students. That is what we want them to see. If you did any of that breath holding during a skill on the IE, its an automatic fail. Everything else was good and interesting to see subtle differences. Like with the air sharing skill. Oh. And when you turn off the students gas, get them to watch the spg. And you should be behind them so you can both watch the spg.
Awesome video to give potential new divers an idea of what will be expected of them. This makes me feel much more confident about getting back into diving after being away for 25 or so years. Thanks.

@@SpyrosKollas Hi there Spyros kollas. I have been very curious about diving and enjoy underwater Life. The Gear is called Dive Portable lungs. I would love to get to know experience divers here in Florida and get certified. I am Naturally from Puerto Rico. If you're not inhaling/intentionally swallowing you're not supposed to be able to swallow water. Some of my students also have problems with water running in their nose, same thing if you aren't inhaling through your nose/you intentionally face your nostrils up to the surface(eg handstand), water won't be able to run into your nose. So the major reason for water getting into your nose is because of your breathing.
@@claudiareyes160 Just make sure you pay attention to your breathing underwater. You can do that by practicing on land since you will be more relaxed. One exercise I would do with my students. I'd ask them to cover nose/mouth(depending what problems they have). Then tell them to inhale >exhale>exhale >inhale >exhale >inhale, etc... the point of the exercise is to make them be conscious of their control of breathing. Then we can do inhale through mouth>exhale through nose>inhale through mouth >exhale through nose, etc... just noticed that your nose will never be used to inhale. Play with it have fun and keep blowing bubbles!
I appreciate your advise so much. I took the scuba class but was not able to complete it because I had trouble with my breathing. I will practice that exercise. Thanks a bunch!!!

Very clear & calm.. super cool 👌
Oh gosh! I really struggled breathing through my mouth without accidentally breathing through my nose when i didn't have the goggles on! also when my goggles filled up in the sea it was perfectly fine bc cleared them a lot but in the pool, filling them with water myself was so scary idek why lol // thankyou for this video! I can't wait to go out and practice again!!

Thank you for your kind post. Greetings from Athens Greece :)
not going to comment the entry, that was bad enough and already commented on.. alas if you are demonstrating a skill where you're reminding the student to continue exhaling whilstteh reg is oiut of their mouth, you need to be consistent in it and DO IT continually whilst your own reg is out..
Stan Merta thank you for your comment!
