this is a great video. the top (lower bay) drive can be swapped out without having to remove the logic board or power supply! takes a bit of wiggling to get the drive back in but it’s very doable (you technically don’t even have to remove the RAM either)

Dude I didn't even know there was two. Mine came with zero drives luckily the sata ribbon was there or id have ran sata over usb lol
And the back was off it but ended up being in the box. Got it for free and forgot about it. Went to get a pillowcase the other day and it was at the bottom of the box lol
I know have a single 500gb on my 2011 running high Sierra. Once I copy all my good files from Windows 7 I'll be swapping my SSD over and adding in my 1tb HDD as well.
Making the conversion to mac use full-time. I forgot how great these little bastards are!

Good god could Apple have made this anymore difficult?
    Ram is nice and easy!
But my god that's 100% disassembly just to get to the hdd.
What would make me uneasy is how small and fragile all the connectors look!
But I'm just scouting for curiosity's sake since I got my eye on one on eBay.

Is the top drive usually where the os is installed?

did u figure out which drive is the main drive (i forgot what the volume was called - Server HD?) and which drive is the Data HD?

just changed the “top” (lower bay) drive (which was Data HD) on my mac mini server. it technically doesn’t matter which drive you install the OS to (in my case, I only swapped out the “top drive” for an SSD to save myself the work of having to remove the logic board and power supply)

Don't do this guys. I tried it in 2016 and ended in repair shop. It's not that easy.
