Graham. Many thanks for showing us your layout and its location. I'm new to modelling (albeit retired now) and am very grateful for the opportunity to virtually visit you. You have given me a Lot of ideas to explore so thank you very much again.
Much appreciated- it’s always good to have a good look around and see if we can pick up any ideas. I have learned a lot from your scenic videos. Thanks Alan
Hi Graham, that's very kind of you to show us you layout barn. Love the BBQ. You know, when you showed the garden from the window, I half expected to see a railway line not a road! LOL. Lovely rolling stock. Cheers Jerry
Hi Jerry and many thanks, yes it's a very pleasant place to be, the road outside is reasonably quiet being in a village so not a problem there. I'm happy!! ;-) ..........Graham
Thank you for the tour Graham. Your layout is beautiful as ever. And the behind-the-scene is very informative. You gave me a lot of great ideas for what to do with my layout room.
Many thanks Jeff and pleased you found it informative which was what I was hoping for and giving you further ideas for your own layout room was a bonus for me. .............Graham
WOW Graham that is some man cave 😎 and What an amazing fleet you have hiding away. Looking forward to seeing the fiddle yards develop. Many thanks for sharing your model world with us all 👍 .... Jason
Thanks Jason, much appreciated mate and yes the fiddle yard should prove interesting to develop to say the least - all good fun though trying to get it to work! lol. ..........Graham
Thanks for showing us your train room Graham, it's wonderful. I think it's a great idea to do this because everything is in perspective for us now. I love the fact that you have stuff from your childhood too, I wish I still had some of mine.
Exactly right and that was my thinking too plus I had quite a few people asking me to make video like this so it seemed the logical thing to do, I must admit that I didn't expect to get such a great response from it like I have had but that's good, at least it proves that it had enough interest in it which I doubted it would have initially. Yes, I will never get rid of my childhood locos, they mean too much to me. ..........Graham
Have to add ,I get so jealous of folk like yourself Graham who manage to keep everything neat and tidy and everything in its place. I tend to have to go round evry so often and do a big tidy up as I am quite messy and unorganised . Thanks for showing us around the train room. Sometimes take for granted on RUclips and forget just how good and how well done your layout actually is.
Don't need to be jealous Alan, if you had seen it a few days before it was covered in flock, glue and everything you can think of!! It's not always as tidy as that and like you, I have to go round and have a tidy up which is what happened here - a tidy up and so a video! ;-) ..........Graham
Thanks Trevor and that's exactly why I wanted to make this video so that people could understand it a little better when they see future videos - it just puts things into place. ...........Graham
Thanks for showing us around! Very impressive facilities; I am so jealous. I see you learnt the hard way that light colour carpets are never the best choice for keeping clean!
Thank you Jennifer and sorry for the late reply, The light colour carpet seemed a good idea at the time (like a lot of things! lol) but it was chosen when the room was a stop-over room so seemed ok then, but with it now being my train room and my hob-nailed boots tramping all over it during the winter then it does take a bit of a hammering. Never mind, nothing a good carpet cleaner will sort out. ;-) .......Graham
A superb tour indeed Graham. Certainly is a proper train room! So tidy and well set out too! The stock is so well ranged and easy to get at. Love how all your scenic materials are so well set out too. Mines just a mess and always losing stuff. A wash room too! Would love something like that! :D More time to play trains. Hope the plans for the fiddle yard work out. Certainly would be quite a sight! Keep up the amazing work and thanks for sharing!
Thank you for dropping by Callum and also for the kind words too. Yes I have now got this room so that it's a pleasant place to work and more importantly to play too. Everything is pretty much to hand now and is easy to find which makes working so much easier. I am just about to pop a video up of the first stages of the fiddle yard so maybe keep an eye out for that. ;-) ...........Graham
Thanks buddy, I try to keep it as organised as best I can, it makes finding things easier too. The garden is down to my wife - she loves her garden as much as I love my trains and other hobbies. ;-) ..........Graham
All I can say is "How the 'h - ll ' do you manage to keep it so clean, tidy. dust free etc. etc. etc. ?" I appreciate you are blessed with good knees and I presume back, legs & hips etc. . I wish I was ( currently in the 81st year in 2022 , still slowly getting bits done and added to my layout. Frustrated at times, annoyed with myself at others, but I would not be without the challenge and enjoyment all aspects of deisign, construction, problem sorting etc. etc. the hobby provides. . Well done Graham, . I think I shall now go and have a tidy up and dust around. Regards Jim R
Hi Jim and thank you for the kind comment. I’m 73 this year (2022) and I’m lucky in that I don’t really suffer from anything to stop me enjoying the hobby and crawling around under baseboards etc, how long that will continue I don’t know but I guess there will be a time with the on-set of old age kicks in and I will have to have a rethink. This video is now 5 years ago and the layout you see is no longer in existence and has been replaced with a totally new layout which I think works better for me. I guess I should do another video like this but with the new layout. The room and the layout keeps itself pretty much clean by itself as I have had air conditioning installed and that really helps to keep it dust free and of course keeps the air dry so stock and track keeps very dry from condensation during the winter months. Cheers for now my friend. ………….Graham
Glad you enjoyed the tour Scott and hopefully it's given you a bit more of an insight into Lakeside rather than just the little bits I normally show. ..........Graham
Thanks Graham for the show around of your layout, I also was wondering about where and what of the layout too so thanks for that. I also keep my old Triang Hornby stuff as well, like you I can't through them out, I also have some broken items that I may put on the layout in a scrap yard being cut up.Looking forward to more updates.
No problems mate and glad you enjoyed the tour, I was hoping that showing this would help folk identify places when I do other videos, I hope it will then identify exactly where about on the layout and in the room it is. I couldn't get rid of any of my old Hornby trains, they mean too much to me, I know they aren't worth a lot but to me they're priceless as most were given to me by my mum and dad. ............Graham
I know how you feel Graham mine are the same from birthdays or other, hey any chance of a night seen some time of your layout , would be good to see .?Thanks
Thanks for showing us round Graham, love the idea for the fiddle yard, and look forward to seeing it developing. That is a lovely setup you have, and a wonderful collection. Cheers John.
Cheers John, I'm very lucky to have what I have and I appreciate it so much, I never take what I have for granted which I guess is probably another reason why I tend to look after what I have and that includes the room too. ;-) ..........Graham
A Great Layout Graham, lot's to see, it makes my small effort look grubby, but then again as you say we all make use of the space we have, thanks for the tour,,,, Regards Mark
It doesn't matter if it's small and grubby Mark, if it suits the needs for you then it's absolutely fine. I only showed this because I have had quite a few requests so that folk can get an idea of where things are on the layout and what's around it too - which I hope I have done. .........Graham
Thanks Gavin, I hope you're going to be around for a while because it's going to take me years to get anywhere near complete but they say that a railway is never finished so who knows? ;-) ..........Graham
How interesting to look around someone else's train room, Graham. Fascinating. It may be relatively small but so tidy and interesting. Thanks for an entertaining video. Your fiddle yard is an ambitious plan.
Hi John and thanks for the comment. The fiddle yard is now well under way, it's only at proof of concept stage at the moment but it's look good so far, if it works out at the concept stage then I will build it up properly after approval. ............Graham
What a dream space for a layout to build in and thank you for the tour around and seeing new views of your layout. There are a lot of shots I could point out that I liked, one being the lift out Manor House section. Seeing your childhood rolling stock, and after watching your other videos in random order, the progression the layout has gone thru.
Hi John and sorry for the delay but we have been away for a couple of days. Yes the lift out Manor House is going to come in useful at a later stage as I will build an alternative to the Manor House which will be something quite different and will put a completely different slant and feel to the layout when in position, I can swap them out whenever I want to depending on what I want the set to look like on any given day. Neat eh! ;-) ............Graham
Thankyou ,I still can't work out wether you burst a dream bubble of a fantasticlayout or proved what can be done with a bit of belief and imagination So keep up the good work so we trainees can learn how it's done. Thankyou again. Peter. (First train set at 60) now I know there is more than an oval.!!
Hehe, that's the same as saying is the glass half full or half empty!! lol. Think positive and say that it shows what can be done. ;-) I'm a trainee too Peter, I'm learning all the time from all the other top flight RUclipsrs on here, it's never to late to learn. ;-) ...........Graham
Oh, so you can get through the slot at the side. I thought it was completely blocked. Oh now that's handy, a toilet right there. I would've been a lovely room to spend a night. You've got a large board at 8 x 16. Nice visit today, thanks for having us up for a cup o tea and a look round. Rob
There you see, it's been good just to show that you can get down that side, I must admit that the videos do tend to make it so that it looks blocked off. Glad you liked the tea and it wasn't too strong for you. ;-) ..........Graham
Thanks David, when you are limited for space then you have to make use of any space that's available, it is still only a basic loop train set with some scenics but I'm more than happy with what I have. I really couldn't and wouldn't want anything larger. ..........Graham
I consider my joinery no better than schoolboy stuff to be honest, I was rubbish at school in woodwork and have never really improved!! lol. ............Graham
Great to see the barn inside and from a different perspective Graham, and I would die for that loo, a bucket doesn't quite cut it lol. And that is a fabulous plan for the incline, can see it working well and a great entrance/exit feature with the tunnel mouth.
I can die for that loo too Mark when it's freezing cold up there - it's a good job it's there I can tell you!! lol. I'm pretty sure that the incline will work out ok, it will be at a very shallow angle so most things should be able to make it up there but if not then I know hoe to fix that now don't I? ;-) ...........Graham
It does sound a bit mental Andrew but that's probably because I'm a bit mental too!! lol. We'll see how it works out, it might end up total crap but it's worth a try. ;-) ..........Graham
I'm just completely astounded graham you left me speechless on this one just amazing it is has already been said a true man cave the old stock you talked about I had one those grey shell tankers as a kid lol
Thank you Mark, I thought that it would be a good idea to let people see what the room was like purely so that the layout and what's around it makes a little more sense and gives it a 'placement'. If I have the room on one of the two levels then I may have a little dedicated track for the older locos from my childhood to run and stretch their legs now and again. ;-) ...........Graham
Great overview Graham, love the idea off connecting the fiddle yard, save all the handling off the stock. In a year or two if it was me I would be away down through ceiling to join up with bottom room and create another world below with a seamless connection. But as you say it took long enough to get this far. It looks class as is. Look forward to updates.
A priceless space, Graham. Thanks for sharing. The layout is really taking shape. In some ways it feels like I'm personally involved in its evolution even though I haven't lifted a finger to give you a hand lol!! Cheers! :)
I know what you mean John and that's exactly the kind of involvement I like where people think they have had a hand in it which of course you and many other folk have - that's a great community feeling. Glad you enjoyed the journey. ...........Graham
brilliant tour round Lakeside Graham, thanks a lot ! i'm a long standing fan as you may know, having been right round vimeo and back with you ! very impressive set up which gives me and many others hours of enjoyment...long may it continue all the best dave
Thanks for those kind words Dave, I can see I will be doing Lakeside for many years to come so hopefully you will continue to stick with me like you have done in the past and for that I thank you. ;-) .........Graham
It's only 3 years since I joined RUclips but the progress that you've made in that room has been amazing , I have watched a lot of those loco's under the layout arrive in that time and remember how excited you were each time . I never realised it was an en suite layout , very handy in cold weather .......Peter
So true Peter, there are quite a few locos under there now and every single one I love for a particular reason. I am so pleased I have that wash room in there - especially as you say - in the winter - it's an age thing! lol. .........Graham
Many thanks Dan and pleased that you enjoyed the tour. It looked a massive amount of stock when I viewed it on the video but doesn't look so much in real life for some reason. ............Graham
Thank you Michael, I am proud of that collection but a lot of them have been given to me by various friends and family members so not all my own doing. It does give me a tremendous choice though when it comes to a running session. ...........Graham
Really interesting to see the whole room in context to the building itself Graham. I often say to my wife if I had a loo and a fridge I could spend a lot longer up in the loft so love your loo up there. I also like your organised storage as I am a bit fanatical about that, not that you would ever know as my loft always looks a mess. I am just in the middle of trying to sort it out now I have a lot less 'stuff' to store, just bigger boxes with the new 0 gauge set up. Keep up the good work and look forward to seeing your helix idea as I never really sorted mine out when I had one. Robin
Thank you Robin, hopefully when the fiddle yard is complete then it will look even more organised, I'm still not sure how well this extended helix will work out but it's got be better than what I have at the moment. The important thing for me is to keep things in an organised manor so that I can find things - nothing winds me up more if I have to go hunting for a tool when I need it!! lol. ............Graham
Very nice man den Graham ,and it's neat and tidy...bonus ! Great to see around the Foulston residence again. It will be soon time to abandon the railway and enjoy the garden. Andy
Thanks Andy, yes you're dead right, that's why I am spending as much time on the layout now. I will have the garden and the scooter to start getting ready for the Brighton MOD run so loads of stuff to do. ..........Graham
Many thanks Laurie. Yes it was great seeing you at the show today, it took me by surprise when I saw you there all dressed up with your booth - it looked cracking in real life too. Sent you a message by the way. ;-) ..........Graham
It has changed a great deal since my last visit, I will never get my belly down that gangway now bruv, even if I could, I would need a box to stand on to see over the back scene lol. The split level storage yard with its elongated helix style system of moving between layers should hopefully work a treat. A big job for the coming months.
It's been specially designed for my little bruv to get down that gangway and look over the top - the only thing I can't guarantee is how you get back!! lol. Yes, the fiddle yard should prove a challenge but you know how much I like challenges! ;-) ..........Graham
Hi Graham, Just watched your Train room video, Made me smile I thought i was getting a tour of Hattons model shop. Youve certainly got some gear. What a lovely room to have it in.Love the lift out section in the middle. Regards Duncan.
Hi Graham, I've only just had a chance to watch this video, absolutely amazing location and a great train room! Your layout looks so good from all the different angles, that's what I like about your layout, you run what you like rather than tied to a location/era = lots of stock to run 😂 thanks for showing us around , cheers Dazza
No problem Dazza and you're absolutely right, I couldn't be tied to a region or era - I like too many locos - it's much more fun anyway. Glad you liked the train room. ..........Graham
Very nice Graham. Spent years building layouts and modules in sheds and garages when we lived in the UK - nothing splendid like your set up. Now in Canada I have a basement to play with which just changes all the rules and is much more agreeable. Mark
Hi Mark, I had a layout in a shed for a year or so about thirty years ago, it continually leaked and eventually I decided to give it up so this is ideal for me, it has everything I need and of course is a pleasant place to be as obviously your basement is - a nice place to just relax and chill. ;-) ............Graham
Thanks for the overview, I can't believe you went through the entire video without banging your head, lol. I am looking forward to the fiddle yard and the problem that I ran into by adding to many turnouts thus providing no length for storage. Great video
I'm used to all the different levels Steve but it catches me out once in a while which needless to say I'm am not pleased about at the time!! lol. The fiddle yard should prove to be an interesting exercise, I'm still not sure if it will work yet but I will give it a go and see what happens. ............Graham
A great tour Graham and it's nice that it's all self-contained away from the garage. I am envious of your carpeted staircase - lugging it all up the loft ladder for me. I thought I had a lot of stock/stuff, but apparently, compared to you, I have a long way to go! Before you went "off air" you were talking about installing a helix and I envisioned a spiral rather than the elongated incline you are planning. I had just about finished my helix (or the squiggle you make when trying to get a biro to work due to the positioning of roof trusses!) at that time, down to a fiddle yard below the main layout as you have. However, after much (rhymes with) mucking about it transpired that, while the radius was as big as I could make it, the curves were shaving off power and many of my locos couldn't make it, even without rolling stock in tow. I would advise you to make your curves as wide as you possibly can, even if it means them cutting across the fiddle yard space itself and not remaining outside the support legs. And to keep your incline as shallow as possible obviously. I'm sure you have calculated the sheer amount of track and points you are going to require, but I was going to suggest, to save (in no particular order!) your back, knees, wallet and sanity, why not just have an isolated marshalling siding, on the same level as the rest of the layout, at the control end, to manually set up each train before it ventures out onto the layout? After my aborted helix (it's still there - too much glue and screws for me to bother dismantling it!) I've gone right off fiddle yards. All I am saying mate, is think long and hard before you begin - but once you have I'm sure you'll give it your usual attention and it'll be fine. All very interesting. Cheers, Davie
I know exactly what you are saying mate, I have under the table boxes of large radius curves and length upon length of straights so I am going to mock up a very rough incline and a set of curves top and bottom and do some tests, this will cost me nothing and I can alter the angle of the incline and curves as much as I want, I think I will soon know if this is going to be a workable proposition or not and if it isn't then I will look at your off layout idea - that could be a really good alternative but one thing is for sure, I need a second 'shelf' - it's far too cramped the way it is now with one. Thanks for all the help though, that's really appreciated. ..........Graham
Good luck with it Graham. It's good you have the stuff on hand to experiment before you dive in. Apart from a couple of sheets of mdf mine cost me nothing apart from a bit of labour being a hoarder of bits of wood, screws, etc that might come in handy one day! ;-)
Yep me too, I have stacks of timber in the garage below so I should have enough to do the lash up to get it working but will probably buy new for the proper version.
I didn't know what I would have had four years ago when I started mate, it surprises me too when I look back at the very first videos of how far it has come. ............Graham
I've been following along since the early days Graham and have always admired your skill and workmanship. It's a great layout for such a small space. You have had many ups and downs during construction but as always these things are trivial when you look at the end result. Congratulations on your progress from the kitchen floor to the empire upstairs. Cheers from Aust (now entering Autumn). P.S. What a great rotating sculpture in your garden.
Cheers Richard and yes, you are one of my long standing subscribers and I thank you for sticking by me, that is really appreciated mate. A lot has happened over those nearly four years ago, the ups and downs but it's all been worth it. I love this hobby and I'm having a ball and really enjoying myself in my retirement years. I saw that rotating gizmo in a garden centre and knew exactly where it would go and just had to have it, it has a very subtle solar powered light in the centre which slowly changes colour in the darkness of night and looks ver effective - love it. Yes with spring just starting for us here then you must be entering autumn over there, at least the heat will now be subsiding for you which must be a bit of a relief. ..........Graham
Graham, enjoyable and informative overview/update .. Also great job on the Burned Out Car diorama .. Looking forward to future projects. Manor House .. might that be; Foulston Hall, has a nice ring :) cheers john
Thank you very much John and pleased you enjoyed this and the burned out car too. I actually quite like that name of Foulston Hall - mmm, I think I will have to re look at the transcript of the original Lakeside documents and see what it actually says. ;-) ..........Graham
I would hate to think that too Andrew, it doesn't bare thinking about but at least I have something there to sell on should that case ever arise unlike some hobbies so I'm ok with that. ..........Graham
Nice to see the Foulston Towers again Graham ...ruddy hell is like a railway shop under your layout ..and you keep getting more ? next you need a bigger railway room ...good idea with the Centre removal trap door ...Dave
Hehe, yes I know Dave but I am cutting down on buying stuff now unless there is a 'special' which comes up and I have enough pocket money to buy it! ;-) When the Manor House is in it's hole then it gives the impression of a large layout as there is no break in the scenes - I wanted that right from the beginning and it seems to be working out well now as it starts to come together. ...........Graham
Hi Graham, thanks so much for the tour of your amazing Train Shed..and background inside...very interesting and triggers loads of idea's (if I'm allowed for my train /hobby room in the future). Hope your knees hold out for the new and exciting addition of your fiddle yard. Great to see some of your garden too...We have an acre here and have been outdoors more than in the House since we move in. Have a large workshop like yours ...but if think its going to be car restoration shop and tractor mower store. Have you been able to run your O gauge diesel much? It looks really great ....I was so tempted with the 5" gauge Small Prairie real steam.....advertised lately...But my partner would kill me if I splashed on on that instead of new fruit cage and greenhouse....Ha ho! Life go's on ...Roll on my retirement and maybe a small grab at my pension pot?? in time.. Thanks again and keep up the good work. Kindest regards Jeremy
many thanks for the kind comments Jez, they really are appreciated. I have had my fill of car restorations and custom cars over the many years and I really can't be bothered these days to get on my back underneath cars anymore - I'm sure you know what I mean!! lol. The nearest thing I have to that on the go at the moment is my 1965 mod Lambretta which I am preparing for this year's run to Brighton in August, now the warmer weather is approaching then that and the garden will be starting to take more time and therefore less time will be spent on Lakeside. I'm not allowed a garden railway otherwise I would build an O gauge track outside for my Class 50 to run on so at the moment it gets virtually no running at all but it was great fun to build which is what I really got it for, I may sell it on in the future as I can't see me using it much to be honest. Good luck in the future with your train room and hope that it all works out and if it does then you will obviously have to pop a video up to show us all. ;-) .........Graham
Lovley tour of The home of Lakeside, you have got enough model boxes to build a den out of them, totally forgot how much stock you actually had, I've started to put all my stock on a database so I know what I've got and weather it's running or not ....James.
Thank you James - love the thought of a den! lol. I have a full database of every single loco I own showing the DCC address, the cost, if it has sound etc - primarily done for insurance purposes. ...........Graham
Great video tour of the layout. You sure do have a crazy amount of rolling stock. I couldn't throw out my childhood trains. I changed the wheels and couplers so I have around 25 pieces of rolling stock. I also have a few locos but they don't run. You can't get motors for the old Tyco but I did hear of a hack with computer CD drives using the motors from them.
I have changed the wheels and converted one of them to DCC Scott but all the rest are as they were and completely stock. The CD drives seem to work ok from what I have seen but I would only do that to the 'newer' old locos I have - not the ones from my childhood. ...........Graham
Hi Grayham Love the tour i am new just trying to fin my bench work my lay out is running all round my lounge started just before xmas about 3 more weeks work and than the corking. Many thanks for all your videos they are so help full i just picked a Z21 black with a fault on fixed that so playing with it let you know how i do. Good luck with the kitchin. Dave.
Many thanks Dave and glad you enjoyed it, much appreciated mate. It's my break time from the kitchen but it's going well so far, a long job but getting there. You will love the Z21, it's such an easy controller to set up and use - enjoy!! ;-) Cheers for now. ...............Graham
HI Graham just taken possession of silver fox today, you were right it is a fantasic engine, i am new to the hobby so hope to have sound fitted at some point. Think your vids are fab. Peter B. Peterborough.
Many thanks Peter and you will be so pleased when you start running that Silver Fox on the layout - especially when you get sound fitted to it. You don't live too far away from me either. ..........Graham
It is a well organised backscene to support a fantastic layout. Maybe you could give some of the old triang locos an outing to Lakeside sometime .We all need to keep busy and active in retirement 😊. My own Triang pullman set continues to allow the Bachman youngster into the loft lol
I too had the Southern Tri-ang electrics and the DMU (now class 101) Metro Cammell shown. Certainly a while ago c. 1964-5 maybe? Mine went to my nephews with other Tria-ang locos/stock as I moved to N gauge until 2005. Changed back to OO with age & less nimble fingers :-)
Hi Pat, I managed to keep hold of mine somehow, my mother had a habit of giving my stuff away without me knowing so it amazes me that I have managed to keep these for so long ! I'm glad I did though as it brings back many good memories of when I was a lad playing with these. ............Graham
And this was one of the reasons I made this video Greg - I thought it would help you understand about the central hole and where the Manor House will go when the industrial scene is built. ...........Graham
Very nice train room and setup all round Graham! Looks like you have a lovely garden as well. You're very tidy it seems - good to see! (Or is that the mrs being over-efficient?) ;-) Best of luck with the incline. Cheers, Joachim
Many thanks Joachim, no the mrs never goes in the train room for some reason so the tidying up is down to me, I don't mind though especially as it's always me who makes the mess. ;-) .............Graham
well I guess you are not worried about a flood in the layout room, lol., what a great video, you have a couple spare trains to run, so never get bored with a single train, all the time. wow first class layout room, you have a washroom too, it was really mice to see the full layout in one screen shot, I didn't see the post man and postal box in this video either. ha, in a future video you might want to tell me to pay attention, and show it again,, lol. thanks for the walk around, and future plans, you need to get one American loco, say a conrail gp-38=3 he he just saying, thanks for sharing another great video, was a nice tour
No, no flooding lol. That was a terrible disaster for you mate, I was gutted for you. There has always been one US loco I have always wanted and that's one of the old Santa Fe F3 or F7 with the war bonnet livery - I know what I mean but unsure if I have the description or terminology right - I think they look gorgeous but it would have to also have the B car too. One day perhaps. ;-) ..........Graham
Hi Graham.... Impressive train room and good to see Lakeside from the different angles, also impressive stock collection, I wish I had kept all the stock I had from my younger years......Good luck with the incline... you may need powerbase if you're going to run 7 to 8 coach trains (Especially if the steam engines will be using it!!) on it..... Nigel
Hi Nigel and thank you, I will see how the incline goes first but if locos struggle then I will have to install a powerbase or the equivalent on it. Glad you enjoyed the tour. ............Graham
Hi Phillip and no need to apologise - we all have to learn. A Powerbase system is (in simplest form) where you stick thin metal plates under the track, then stick magnets to the underside of the loco which therefore pulls the loco down onto the track therefore giving it more traction to go up an incline. "Powerbase" is the name of the product which is made by DCC Concepts. Hope that helps. ..........Graham
Gud to hav a nosey round again Graham :) tel u wot, i really cant wait to c how u work that fiddle yard out! Im sure u hav it all mapped out, i just cant figure out how ur gonna hav room to manourve locos from one side of yard to othr etc, like Aladins cave!! Cheers
You still might Rich because building a 1965 Lambretta in the style of my old MOD scooter I had back in '65, I might show it on here but I just need to decide if this is the correct place that's all. Not sure if folk would be interested. ..........Graham
Wow Graham! Such a lot of stuff! And so tidy too!. My railway room is a sh*t hole most of the time! Too many projects and not enough tidy genes. My next video will show a little of what I mean. Are you going to the East Anglian show at the weekend? I will be there on Saturday afternoon from about 2pm. I am looking forward to seeing the Grantham layout, if it shows!............................John
Hi John, yes I will be going (you mean the one at Wood Green?) but not sure when but hopefully on Saturday sometime so I might bump into you somewhere along the way. The train room is not always as clean and organised as what I have shown it, when a project is on the go then it can look like a bomb has hit it but a quick tidy up afterwards soon sorts it out. ..........Graham
Hi Graham, Yes I do mean Wood Green. I will look out for you I'll be wearing a black fleece and a red LFC cap (Liverpool Football Club).................John
Hi Graham, nice setup you have. But what puzzels me is why don't you use the older stock anymore? Like the pullman's for instance. I have the same ones, but I'm upgraded them, replaced the plastic wheels by metal ones, etc.. By coincidence, also my winter project this year, of making led table lights en doing the complete interior decorating including figures etc. I even got the Triang ones going through the same makeover. I know that, specially the Triang ones are not a real scale representations. But it youth sentiment I suppose to give them a second life… Anyway interesting video, enjoyed it…
Absolutely brilliant train room Graham, and splendid garden too! Thanks for sharing, all the best, Paul
Graham. Many thanks for showing us your layout and its location. I'm new to modelling (albeit retired now) and am very grateful for the opportunity to virtually visit you. You have given me a Lot of ideas to explore so thank you very much again.
No problems Phillip and glad you enjoyed the tour especially if it has given you some ideas too. ........Graham
Much tidier than I will ever be Graham. Thanks for the tour. Cheers, Bob
Thanks Bob but it's not always like that - sometimes I don't hoover the carpet for a good couple of weeks! lol. ..........Graham
What a great video Graham we all have better understanding of what Lakeside is all about. Your rolling stock is amazing
Thank you Graham, for sharing your wonderful layout room with us. Very impressive indeed.
No problems mate and pleased you enjoyed it. ..............Graham
Just found this one Graham. Amazing to see this layout compared to the way Lakeside is now. This one is a pretty impressive layout too. All the best.
mesmerising Graham you are a credit to the train modelling world !! thank you loved it nick
That's an impressive comment Nick - thank you very much mate and as always is greatly appreciated. .......Graham
Graham Foulston your welcome sir
lovely layout Graham, great to see your setup. also the way you've organised your terrain kit, old horbys etc is very helpful. cracking garden to!
Thanks buddy, I try to keep it as organised as best I can, it makes finding things easier too. The garden is down to my wife - she loves her garden as much as I love my trains and other hobbies. ;-) ..........Graham
Nice overview of the layout and how you have stored everything. A very impressive display of your work.
Many thanks George and pleased that you like what has been done so far. ............Graham
………….Graham
It's like a train Mecca !!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the tour Graham.
Regards
Scott
Aye Graham, the idea of a elongated helix sounds just the job, can't wait to see more ,,, Happy modeling, ,,,, regards Mark
And 'happy modelling' to you too mate. ;-) ..........Graham
I really enjoyed the overview of Lakeside Graham it will be great to follow the remainder of the build . Regards Gav .
Thanks Gavin, I hope you're going to be around for a while because it's going to take me years to get anywhere near complete but they say that a railway is never finished so who knows? ;-) ..........Graham
Wow. What a great layout. Can't wait to see how it develops.
Thanks, there should be a fair bit of development on it this year if all goes according to plan. ...........Graham
Yes Graham, I saw your incline. Nine coaches around a curve and up an incline.. challenging! ...John
Neat set up you have there Graham . It will intresting to see the progress of your fiddle yard.
Thanks mate and hopefully it wont be too long before I start tackling it. .........Graham
Beautiful layout. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the tour....Superb !
Many thanks Andy and pleased you enjoyed it. ............Graham
Man alive!! Absolutely GREEN with envy. Inspirational.
Thank you very much for those kind words, they are greatly appreciated. .............Graham
Yes that be handy to have different sections with alternative themes. I will look forward to seeing the outcome as you start it.
Nice house seems beautiful outside. Keep up the good work. Henry
Nice update Graham. It's wonderful to see behind the scenes.
Ross
Cheers Ross and glad you enjoyed it. ...........Graham
Great tour Graham. It's a tight fit but you've made excellent use of every inch. David.
Thanks David, when you are limited for space then you have to make use of any space that's available, it is still only a basic loop train set with some scenics but I'm more than happy with what I have. I really couldn't and wouldn't want anything larger. ..........Graham
Hi Graham
This turned up on suggestions so decided to give it a watch. It’s interesting to see how Lakeside has changed.
Cheers Kev
Well impressed, the joinery work and wiring are really impressive thank you for showing it to us
I consider my joinery no better than schoolboy stuff to be honest, I was rubbish at school in woodwork and have never really improved!! lol. ............Graham
A very interesting and enjoyable journey to the train room. Thanks for sharing....All the best....Tom
Many thanks Tom and glad you enjoyed the tour and found it interesting. ...........Graham
Nice set up.
Your double level fiddle yard elongated helix plan sounds mental, can't wait to see it!
I am really impressed, you have what for me is only a dream but you look to be so organised. I love it.😀
Thank you Michael, it's an annoying trait of mine to keep things tidy - a little bit of OCD I guess.
Oh no! Downstairs is my garage which is sacrosanct for my other hobbies - my Audi A7 and a 1965 Lambretta Li150 Special. ;-) ..............Graham
Oh I see, best not interfere with that. Best of luck Graham.
Cheers buddy. ;-) ............Graham
Glad you enjoyed the journey. ...........Graham
hi graham
the layout looks fantastic and the room is well laid out for a train room
keep up the great work
Many thanks James and much appreciated. ............Graham
Very interesting Graham, thanks for showing it.
No problems William and glad you enjoyed it. ..........Graham
brilliant tour round Lakeside Graham, thanks a lot ! i'm a long standing fan as you may know, having been right round vimeo and back with you ! very impressive set up which gives me and many others hours of enjoyment...long may it continue all the best dave
I agree with you keep the boxes, great layout, happy model railroading...Zane
Thank you, I always keep boxes - it all helps for the re-sale should that arise which of course it will do eventually. .............Graham
Evening graham, thanks for the insight looks very impressive and well deserved
Evening to you too Stewart and pleased you enjoyed the tour. ...........Graham
Wow Graham, you've got more stuff than most model shops I reckon! LOL. Thanks for the tour, it's a great setup!
Many thanks Dan and pleased that you enjoyed the tour. It looked a massive amount of stock when I viewed it on the video but doesn't look so much in real life for some reason. ............Graham
Always room for more! LOL
Just a couple! ;-) ........Graham
that is an awesome collection you've got, you have it so well set out and organized underneath your layout. Well impressed.
Thank you Michael, I am proud of that collection but a lot of them have been given to me by various friends and family members so not all my own doing. It does give me a tremendous choice though when it comes to a running session. ...........Graham
Thanks Graham , really enjoyed the tour.
Thanks Bob, much appreciated mate. ............Graham
Graham Foulston nice one ! Don't get into any punch ups with the rockers lol 😂
lol. No Andy, those days are long gone - never again! ;-) ............Graham
Impressive space you have there Graham. Great to meet you today. Laurie.
Many thanks Laurie. Yes it was great seeing you at the show today, it took me by surprise when I saw you there all dressed up with your booth - it looked cracking in real life too. Sent you a message by the way. ;-) ..........Graham
Smashing video Graham. Thanks and great to see you back. Hope Ruby is settled in now.
Thank you Philip, and yes Ruby has settle in very well thanks, growing by the day and getting cheekier too!! lol. ..............Graham
Beautiful place Graham. Love the whole setup and the birds!! Take care friend - Matt
Many thanks Matt, it's a cracking place to live, we thought about moving a few times but there's just no point. ........Graham
A wonderful layout, Graham, and so TIDY! I wouldn't dare share views of my tip of a railway room.
That's just me mate - sometimes I can be to organised and tidy for my own good. .........Graham
Hi Graham, Just watched your Train room video, Made me smile I thought i was getting a tour of Hattons model shop.
Youve certainly got some gear. What a lovely room to have it in.Love the lift out section in the middle.
Regards
Duncan.
That is absolutely amazing. I will show that to my grandsons as we are starting out on a small 6 ft by 2 ft layout.
That's excellent Philip and good luck with the new layout too. Thank you. ..............Graham
Thanks Graham.
Thanks for the tour Graham, if I can get to a tenth of the layout you have I shall be very happy !!
I didn't know what I would have had four years ago when I started mate, it surprises me too when I look back at the very first videos of how far it has come. ............Graham
Simply wonderful. Congrats.
Thank you for this behind-the-scenes. I'm sure that your trains are very happy to live there :)
I'm sure they will be Michele, I haven't had any complaints from them yet! ;-) ...........Graham
Very nice video!! I am impressed!! I'm looking forward to the double fiddle yard. Greetz from Holland!
Many thanks Onno, yes the fiddle yard should prove to be interesting. ...........Graham
Great layout & video Graham, enjoyed it very much!
That's excellent Mark and helps to make the video more worthwhile if people enjoy it. .............Graham
Fantastic as always Graham
Thank you Adrian and much appreciated mate. ............Graham
I can only dream (and often do) about a train room just like this!
cracking layout Graham! great video tour thanks.jim.
Thanks Jim and glad you enjoyed it. ...........Graham
Thank you for the tour Graham. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. If my layout one day becomes even half as good as yours I will be a very happy man. :)
That's very kind of you to say, thank you but don't worry, I'm sure your layout will be as good if not better than this given time. ............Graham
Love your kinetic sculpture!
lovely garden and great collection of stock. I would hate it think how you have spent over the years.
Kindest regards
Jeremy
many thanks for the kind comments Jez, they really are appreciated.
Loved the grand tour. I think you should convert the loo into a signal box and control your layout from in there :-)
I would be dead if I touched that room - that is strictly out of bounds as regards anything train related!! ;-) .......Graham
Yes, someone else suggested that so I may give my 'oldies' a run to cheer them up and stretch their legs. ;-) ...........Graham
That was great just like going on a behind the sceans tour of a film studios set.
Hehe, well not quite but thanks anyway. ;-) .........Graham
Very interesting. And now I have answer to where the manor goes when you start on the town scene.
Many thanks Joachim, no the mrs never goes in the train room for some reason so the tidying up is down to me, I don't mind though especially as it's always me who makes the mess. ;-) .............Graham
well I guess you are not worried about a flood in the layout room, lol., what a great video, you have a couple spare trains to run, so never get bored with a single train, all the time. wow first class layout room, you have a washroom too, it was really mice to see the full layout in one screen shot,
I didn't see the post man and postal box in this video either. ha, in a future video you might want to tell me to pay attention, and show it again,, lol. thanks for the walk around, and future plans,
you need to get one American loco, say a conrail gp-38=3
he he just saying,
thanks for sharing another great video,
was a nice tour
Guys, my apologies for my lack of knowledge but what is a Powerbase please?
Hi Phillip and no need to apologise - we all have to learn. A Powerbase system is (in simplest form) where you stick thin metal plates under the track, then stick magnets to the underside of the loco which therefore pulls the loco down onto the track therefore giving it more traction to go up an incline. "Powerbase" is the name of the product which is made by DCC Concepts. Hope that helps. ..........Graham
Thank you Graham.
Cheers
As they say on the telly Matthew "It'll be alright on the night". Not sure how I will get there but I will. ;-) .........Graham
lovely video mate
shows the whole expanse of the layout
Thanks mate and hopefully it has shown everything to help understand the complete layout and what's around it. .........Graham
Very nice barn ypu got there with train room upstairs, was hoping to see inside the garage with that nice audi in.
Cheers
You still might Rich because building a 1965 Lambretta in the style of my old MOD scooter I had back in '65, I might show it on here but I just need to decide if this is the correct place that's all. Not sure if folk would be interested. ..........Graham
Great scenery Graham!!!!!!!!!
Many thanks Alan. ;-) ............Graham
thanks for the tour of your layout and room
No problem and thanks for both the comments. ..........Graham
OK mate, I shall look out for too. ;-) ............Graham
But it youth sentiment I suppose to give them a second life…
Anyway interesting video, enjoyed it…
