  • What guitar could be worth a 1500 mile road trip and 5 figures cold hard cash? This 1960 Gibson ES-335TD from the original owner since 1961 was well worth the trip PLUS I was able to pick up another guitar on the way. That was when the seller of the 1975 Gibson ES-345TD mentioned he had another guitar I was extremely interested in.... but I didn't have the cash on hand to buy it! Just wait until you see it at the end.

Both sellers were kind enough to tell the story of their guitars on camera:
    1960 Gibson ES-335TD: 5:15
    Mystery guitar seller: 15:49
I stopped in at two shops in Nashville, Tennessee on my way back: Gruhn Guitars (9:07) and Rumble Seat Music 10:05 (thanks Tobin!) / rumbleseatmusicsw
1928 Gibson Nick Lucas Special 9:21
1966 Fender Stratocaster custom color Fiesta Red 10:15
1966 Gibson ES-345TD custom color Sparkling Burgundy 10:32
    1955 Fender Stratocaster Sunburst 11:29

I hope you gave him a warm thank you for taking most likely his most emotional possession. I am sure you did. I can only feel that maybe he was sad to see it go. Happy for you to have it! 1960 is my favorite Gibson year for some acoustics too. I wish you can measure the neck thickness at the first fret, if you wnat. And the PAF's are they strong and wooly? Must be a luxury feel holding that neck while playing.

Thanks Martin! Yes, he gave me a hug after we completed the transaction. I think all parties involved were happy. Thanks for watching!

1961 es 335 is the best neck I have ever played on any semi hollow gibson.....

Martin how would you describe the term" wooly" when talking about paf tone. I always see that word and It's a describing word I see that I'm not familiar with

Wow. Somebodies who actually know that stereo is good! IIRC, Buddy Holly had a '55 Stratocaster. I sold 345's new in the early '70s and own a '73 ES-355.

My dream is to be able to take cross country road trips, buying 2nd-tier vintage guitars, making videos with the cool people I meet, sharing their stories...
Don't feel I could pull it off though with a family to support

I see how it could! I think the effect might be more significant on acoustic guitars though. Who knows??
