The difference between Sorcery and True Magic is simply that without an Avatar that a Mage has, True Magic is impossible. Thus hedge sorcery of any stripe typically needs at least some source of Quintessence to fuel or bargain with and Vampire Vitae is a potent source of this. While any creature with enough study and effort could use their blood, this was typically a very suicidal and worthless venture for sorcery considering how you need blood to function. Kindred, with their very powerful cursed vitae and ability to drain and refill themselves with it at least sand some of those edges off, but the risk is always there. To expel blood, especially fruitlessly if you botch your spell not only courts the beast but also the consequences of whatever force you were attempting to play with unlike just the beast with the use of Disciplines.
I’ve always had this idea for a finishing move someone could perform using blood magic: use Celerity to run really fast in a circle around a foe, then use blood magic to weave a thin strand of blood through the air, before stopping suddenly and making it contract like a garrote.
Thaumaturgy in V20 was the dopest discipline. So many possible paths. Technomnacy is great for modern times and the future, it adds tad of shadowrun/cyberpunk into the game. Conjuring is great if you're knowledgeable and creative enough. Mercury is the best "get out of jail free card" retreat. Path of the focused mind is good for a mentalist and for ignoring frenzy. Finally, if you're the theatrical type, weather control can be great to make an entrance. Too bad you either had to be able to keep a secret and have a liberal tremere in your coterie to learn it or manage to have a tremere lord owe you a life boon and have you sign a blood contract. As for Dark Thaumaturgy, it's not nessarily completely evil. It depends how your story teller is presenting them. Are they the classic hellish demons that want souls and will slowly corrupt you? Or are they the fallen angels from demon the fallen that wish to escape the abyss? If it's the ladder, you could reasonably make pacts with them without doing anything particularly damning to the soul. Give me a scourge reconciler and we'll be fine.
My hacker/sorcerer Banu Haqim: *frantically taking notes on Hacktivist Thaumaturgy* Blood Sorcery is so much fun. I guess with v5 putting them all together, it could be considered an umbrella discipline, with the various forms (Dur-An-Ki, Koldunic Sorcery et cetera) as sub-disciplines? I did read somewhere that Dur-An-Ki users find it harder to learn other types, not sure if that's still applicable in v5.
They combined Quietus and Thaumaturgy into one toned-down discipline and made everything else rituals. Koldunism, Dur An Ki, Akhu, Sadhana, Dark Thaumaturgy, Anarch Sorcery, Wanga, etc. are pointless now. The Paths are gone. You'd have to play v20 to use Thaumaturgy as it originally was.
Dur-An-Ki as far as I know is just a philosophy/method of sorcery, actual Islamic/Hebrew sorcery was the basis for the "classical" medieval sorcerers together with classical alchemy from Greece but that dates back from the Roman empire which the Assamites had contact with so it really makes it obvious the tremere stole a lot of knowledge of the Banu Haqim but developed various techniques which were unique to them until the BH came to join the camarilla and "borrowed" the little spells they had left after the pyramid's fall so they are the same *literally* the main difference could be that some use the Dur-An-Ki method more as philosophy of how they are doing certain than anything really...
oh ma gods YES! yesterday I was thinking about making a baali apostate that knows blood sorcery and what ya know ? this video pops up! one should think the nosferatu are keping an eye on me 🤔
Also for those wondering what the difference between awakened magic and the tremeres take of blood magic. Pretty much, awakened magic is the shit real magi have, paradox aside youll have a lot of power. Blood magic is more or less a bastardization of the real thing. Why? Same logic with static sorcery,no avatar. Now that is not to say fucking with avatars is not impossible, but wed spend god knows how long with that. Now. The way tremere blood magic works is that it functions the same logic of mages, where your own will and preferences will determine a good amount of your skill set. Now,for the kindred interested in such power,we would have to refer to the ravnos dicipline, chimerstry. Despite chimerstry being ilusions,a ravnos with enough dots in chimerstry, can more or less perform a shadow of awakened magic. Which is terrifying because even a shadow of such power is immensely potent,as zapathasura demonstrated in the week of nightmares.
Hello! I've been sent here by the very wonderful Sphinx Ink/Violet Ellison herself. I've never listened to you before and I'm so excited to explore all this lore, but I have a little issue: are your episodes transcribed anywhere? I've looked around, but can't find any place that has transcriptions. YT screwed up the auto captions (again) where they *used* to be decent-ish, but now they're back to being trash. I'm deaf, so without proper captions or a transcription, I can't participate in stuff like this.
Hi there! Yes, she has just messaged about you actually, and I have not done either of those actually. I hope YT sorts itself out so you can enjoy the podcast properly.
@@LoreByNightVtM I agree! I wish they'd bring Community Contributions back! Sadly, the thing about auto captions, whether they're decent-ish or not, is that it doesn't include punctuation or sound effects or anything like that, so it's still very hard to follow along with. I've talked about it a bit with Sphinx, so perhaps she can fill you in on the details if you're interested in staying in the loop, lol.
God i had to get a ghoul to type this for me I was only informed about the oblivion form of obtenebration i wonder if i can learn the giovani rituals to add to my obtenebration arsenal since necromancy is included in the oblivion discipline Or if my lasombra blood would reject it
I believe the rituals require you to have a certain power associated with it. So if you wanted to learn a ritual, you’d have to give up learning an obtenebration power
That as well. You can only learn a Level 3 Ritual if you have Level 3 in Oblivion. I think the original question was whether a Lasombra could use Necromancy and Hecata use Obtenebration. Mechanically, yes. Some STs may wish to separate the two
I love how the autotranscription on spotify writes "trim" for Tremere

Marvelous, finally a channel talking about blood sorcery, never found this kind of content before. Thank you very much, my nosferatu friend

Virgin Tremere vs Chad Danava
This was good. I played a Dark Ages Assamite sorcerer. I followed weather control, path of the elements, and path of awakening steel.

You'd have to buy V5 to find out what has happened 😉

Or homebrew it...which will take you 5 secs
@@LoreByNightVtM I disagree. V5 has different mechanics and some of them don't translate well.

Can you go into all of the vampiric disciplines I think that would be a cool videos for each
I plan on covering all the disciplines at some point

Ritual video when?

Woohoo! New series. I want more 😩. Getting close to 2,500 subscribers. I guess I can wait. 🥺
It will be quite a while until I return to some disciplines, but I have got quite few goodies planned in the meantime!
@@LoreByNightVtM I do see a few episodes locked as private. I better improve my hacking and technomancy. 🧙
Come back in 12hrs to learn what that is 😉
Just a house keeping note. The kiasyd clan video is playced twice on your play list. Is the "narrator" trying to bolster their ranks?
Nope. A pure coincidence
hey, this should be 27 hours long!
Oh I know! I deserve a medal for condensing this down as much as I did 😂😂
