It's a really versatile and good camera, but the dynamic range really bothers me, the skies are always blown out, maybe with the 10-bit color things will change, let's hope for the best! For the rest it's really good.
Dewarp FOV look terrible :/ soft image, 4k looks like fullhd, worse than on action 1. So I use only wide FOV, but... its still not sharp enough :/ I had BIG hope with action 3, but this is only action 2 in body of action 1 :/ and I don't think that 10bit will help with sharpnes. In gopro we can choose lvls of sharpness, bitrate, power of stabilisation, here? still nothing
Watching this vlog and if not comparing against the Hero 11, it works and good enough for any Vlogger I feel. As you rightfully said, GoPro wins on the video quality, better exposure and perhaps the new dimension for those keen to use same footage for both RUclips and Tiktok or Instagram but everything else, the Action 3 wins and I agree with you wholeheartedly on this. I'm still considering getting the Action 3 to replace my Action 2 but I'm taking my time on this one since its not available yet in my country anyways.

I wanted to LOVE the OA3 but I can't because the image quality is just not what it should be. Two features I really wanted in the Action 3 is battery life and USB C mic support. Sadly I'm going to return my Action 3 for a refund. DJI has some work to do before this camera is ready for prime time. I do love the Hero 11so I will be keeping it.
One of the reasons why I got the DJI action 3 myself was that the camera audio beats GoPro 11 way out of the park + fast charging is just such a good feature if you're looking to especially set up a mobile/location independent business on the go. Super, super important! You're right Sky, in terms of everything else combined together, it's definitely a winner! Combine this with a DJI pocket 2 for low light situations and boom, you got a very versatile vlog and on-the go camera set up, saves a lot of space, weight and you can still get wide angle shots too whenever in need. It took me watching this twice to evaluate what you were telling us about the DJI. I was just too blown away by the "family" setting. In all my years watching RUclips I've only seen one other content creator involve his kids in his video and it is mad precious. Back to the camera. No two ways about it, DJI is definitely in hot pursuit of GoPro. That interactive front screen and the pricing are definitely tempting

The biggest unknown I have towards the Action 3 is whether it blows the highlights on the D-Cinelike profile. If you could post an entire day's vlog in D-Cinelike without color processing especially in high contrasty daylight situations, it would set the standard for evaluating the image quality. I've seen short clips here and there but nothing enough to say this is it. Love your energy. Keep on keeping on!

Well it was really dark lol. It’s great once the sun comes up. There’s a shot where I’m sitting in the dining room that really looks amazing. But yea when it’s dark it’s not great. Just wait until you see the gopro. Lol
Strange that so many of you are waiting until October to get one …I received mine 4 days after ordering. Really happy with it. I have the Action 1 and they kept the same kind of menus and logic, so it’s easy to use both. Interface is great. Quality is maybe better, but Action 1 was already great. A bit surprised that the Spot measure disappeared, it was quick and useful. And for the time being, a bit frustrated by the lack of filters/cage available on the market (in fact : none !) ; Maybe not as good as GoPro, but in 3 years of DJI Action and pocket and drones, I NEVER had ANY recording problem : they are deadly reliable, and for me, it’s non négociable !
I'm in the US, immediately after ordering from DJI my order summary said it's expected to ship 6th of October. I'm jealous you have yours I wanted to take mine to the final Mets home games :(
I ordered my Action 3 shortly after watching a video you posted about two weeks ago, and to my horror the Action cam with kit won't be delivered until close of end October, I enjoyed my Action 1 a lot and for the price it cant be beat! I am going to be testing it out low light and at night in the upcoming months! Great vlog !

I ordered this action cam after selling my hero 10. I do hope that some software updates will fix exposure in the camera. Other than that I love all the features you discussed in the video. Great job Sky Money!

Plus size I own a pocket 2, I’m hoping that the picture profiles will not be dramatically different for editing in post. Maybe you can confirm that for me? Are the color profiles for the Osmo 3 and pocket 2 similar?

I liked the looked of the Action 3 footage as it looked more “true” and not enhanced too much like the GoPro. With that said, still keeping and Action 1 & 2, I am still waiting on Pocket 3 if it has a 1” sensor will be Boss.
let me say something from father to father: you're a good dad :) About the camera: I've been a GoPro user for years so I probably can't rate it objectively - but overall the quality is good and the second touchscreen is a highlight. My favorite is the fact that you can, quite simply, use any microphone. I mean, whiteheaded ninja, what's wrong with the GoPro product policy?

So what made the image freeze in the last minute? Is that a camera-problem or did something go wrong with editing or uploading? The rest of the vlog looked realy smart. Not as sharp as the GoPro but I often find the GoPro images too sharp...
results look solid. I'm still trying to work out if I need to upgrade from the Oslo Action. I only use 1080 not 4k. a side by side comparison of the key differences would be great.

dji action cant handle fast exposure changes well it seems. its too abrupt. the stabilization is still like floating in a boat unless you use horizon levelling. also i notice on other review videos the faces always look blurry. maybe you can compare the minimal distance that gopro and dji can do? the colors of dji look much better than gopro.

Hey Sky, Love the fam vlog! Kids are cute at those ages so enjoy it. So you asked why not merge the best from GP11 + A3 = GPA14! 🤣 Well TLDR but here’s my 2 cents: - GP was 1st mover with no competition so they slacked. And now with legit competition with DJI and Insta360, they need to rethink their strategy going forward. They release a new product each year because they get pushed by consumers and investors to do so with unfinished products. So instead of pushing it out 1.5-2yrs before next launch, their engineers are focused on the next thing. Therefore reliability comes into play and more updates required. On the other hand, if they don’t release each year, investors will bash them and I am sure consumers will do same. So they need to stop listening to both and focus on internally delivering what Apple does, give what is universally understood “beautiful and high quality” and charge for it. Look at the iPhone 14 launch. They bucket into two groups: - non-discerning consumers, can’t tell the difference in tech improvements or know or even use it. Just want “latest newness”; and - discerning consumers, want the latest tech for their paid work or love tech and willing to pay it. So for iP14 and Plus models, use A15 2021 chip and sell for same price as last year but yield and volume improves and make more money and these non-discerning are happy. And for discerning, give the A16 and they appreciate and know how to maximize it and willing to pay for it. I digress but back to DJI and GP. Both have constraints in capacity and capabilities. GP is action cam company only but don’t have unlimited funds and need to perform every year or die. DJI has a rich dad but then his to deal with a big brother who is much bigger and better with their successful drone lines. GP will focus what they’re good at which is IQ. They will not focus on lowlight and reliability (see above explanation), and not on UI/UX. So DJI and Insta360 will push them to focus on this. DJI will focus on reliability and UI/UX but behind on IQ. But here’s where the plot is twisted from my POV. Everyone claims A3 at $329 is good value for money. I differ because it’s a A2 repackaged. That means same tech like Apple iP14 and Plus models (2021 tech) so we need to compare prices with GP10 which is $349 and at that price with subscription, you get replacements. For DJI, you need to pay another $35. So GVFM against GP10, I would disagree. To compare to GP11, then we need to ask what’s it worth for: - 10bit and better DR (two different things as one is bit depth and other is dynamic range); - 8:7 reframing without IQ loss with the 27MP image sensor vs 12MP. It’s because when you crop, you still have EFL (effective focal length) than FOV (field of view). So when cropped as 16:9 or 9:16 FOV, EFL is still 8:7 - Horizon Lock in Linear mode (but not in 8:7) in most shooting modes except 4K120, 2.7K240, 1080 120/240 - Auto Boost - Since same boring body, you get to reuse all the same accessories as GP9 and 10 users - At $399 (not $499) either as new subscriber or existing subscriber (no longer need to cancel and rebuy, convenient for GP and existing customers) so the price difference is $70 for all the above main features. Therefore who is it for buyer’s guide (from my POV): GP: - upgrading from GP4-9, buy the GP11 but with GP10, wait for GP12; - needing all the new main features for paid work, upgrade to GP11; - pissed off at DJI for their lack of consistent drive price, i.e. A1 GVFM, A2 expensive, A3 GVFM, A4 probably expensive. Same with drones M2P expensive, Air2S GVFM, M3P expensive or Mini2 GVFM, Mini3P expensive. So it’s a “pay now or pay later” scheme. And for A2 customers who paid $519 and now A3 will get 10-bit while A2 is at 8-bit with same image sensor, f-stop, and processor. Hmmm, get ready for deflectors DJI: - new to action cams, get the A3; - upgrading from A1, get the A3; - pissed off GP users due to reliability issues and bad UI/UX, go with A3; - for A2 users, wait for A4 As for batteries, I prefer using the Volta or Insta360 powerbank + tripod for continuous shooting without having to stop and swap batteries so I don’t see a benefit for the fast charging. And the batteries output are similar, 1770mAh vs 1720mAh, a 50mAh is not going to make a difference. Temperature ratings yes, -20 to 45degC, more than GP enduro at -10degC. You also have option to use Ulanzi BG-4 at 5000mAh. For QR (quick release), magnetic design is nice and carry over from A2 design but for this solution Snap Mount is much better as you can mount it on backpack, glass, car, and any other surfaces and use Ulanzi’s QR for GP mounts. No additional cost as I already have them As a fan of tech, will probably buy both but pondering to wait as I already have the GP10 and A2. Waiting on P3 and perhaps next year’s GP12 and A4.
idk if youll even consider this but osmo pocket 3 is most likely coming out at the end of the year and there have been waterproof cases for the past 2 models which can also be used as a hard case

Can we just talk about how good Bluey is for a minute?? Being from Queensland (where it's set) my kids love it. It's all about lowlight for me. I know these things aren't built for it, but the DJI is more solid. I'm wondering if you have to try the same trick of bumping up the frame rate that you shared with the Action 2. I'm becoming more and more of a DJI fan as time goes on.
It seems like the osmo 3 is darker than osmo 1. I have the first generation osmo, probably i will wait for osmo 4 and i will upgrade my camera. Or what do you think? Osmo 3 is much better than 1?
I can't tell for sure but did they fix the focus distance from the action 1? Feels a little out of focus up close. Other than that I like everything else on it
I have to say while it might not be the most detailed image it certainly looks natural. Sometimes I think gopro has more detail and looks sharper but kind of looks a bit cartoonish? not sure that makes sense. Be interested to see your side by side comparison eventually though.
I think DJI is amazing for vlog camera and action. Go Pro is good but need to improve a lot special the overhead and the battery life and the front screen touch screen is so good with DJI.

Again I can not help to bring up insta360 especially the X3 with the big screen, you capture every thing. if you walk buy something cool or something happen in front of you it is captured the same as your reaction. but the next best thing is probably the dji osmo action 3. I have some footage from a fishing trip this summer I can show you as a example if you like. one button and you do not need to care about where the camera points.
Is it me or does the the Osmo 2 have better image quality? I don't have either but from your footage and others it seems to be better. Maybe it's the changing of the seasons and lighting? I don't know... Looks like there image quality fell off a bit.
Hey Sky, did you receive your free case from DJI for the Action 2? I didn’t even know that was a thing until today, it’s supposed to help with the overheating issues. If you haven’t just go to the DJI website, log in to your account and go to “coupons”, then you will be able to get it for free but I would hurry because I noticed that the coupon will expire if you don’t use it. It's an Action 2, repackaged to appease the crowd, at a price that's competitive. I think it's the best value Action camera out right now. Mind you the Action 2 is also great, and offers more flexibility.
Does the Action 2 really offer more flexibility than the 3? - overheats compared to the 3. - Isn't waterproof up till 16 meters - Isn't as cold resistant - doesn't offer fast charging - battery doesn't last as long
@@BunnyslippersEUC True: Action 3 moreso for Action. But Action 2 allows lighter weight option Especially when wearing for hyperlapse. It's less intrusive when vlogging. Can be used easier on fpv. ...Can be expanded with add on module. Battery life never an issue with a power bank handle. Overheating only an issue with high resolution/FPS. Hd is enough for me. Overheating not really an issue with real life vlog use. Use free protective case. Cold resistance no issue as Im not interested in Cold climates. Would always use a case when diving as never know how deep I would go, and 10 metres more than enough for snorkelling.
@@spirittravels. yeah I got the Insta360 Go2 for that. It's ridiculous how small it is. Action 2 needs 128 GB of internal memory. 32GB is too small for 4K video.

But it's good enough for me as I'd only use it alone for short clips that don't need audio... It won't be for everyone, that's for sure. Action 3 is a real action Camera. Yea I think it could. I mean it really does everything better except for image. I mean stabilization ain’t better than the gopro either.. but stabilization is just good on all these cameras now and days.
Dynamic range is bad and you don't see much or details. Also, when you move the video quality is low, no details or you can see the grass like painting..

You didn't demonstrate what makes this camera system special as an action camera. Everything you're doing with it can be done on phone or Sony ZV1 camera system. So from what I can see, not worth the investment if it doesn't solve a problem that something else can do as well or even better. ZV1 has 1 inch sensory BTW, better than OSMO 3 or GP11. Am I wrong?
I think GoPro hasn’t done a lot of the things that DJI have done (ie. mic inputs)... as they need somewhere to go in the future and “improve” the yearly releases... if they done everything that DJI have done, such as microphone inputs... then what can they do each year to make people want to buy the newest GoPro... we ain’t quite ready for 8K footage.... YET!....but it’s coming in the near future... I just wish DJI had photo resolutions of 20+megapixels, so that’s why I’m screwing my nose up at DJI Action 3... 12 Megapixels... meh!. GoPro is so frustrating for it’s lack of reliability.
I have to say the image quality isn't quite as good as the GoPro and neither is the audio. If they at least matched GoPro for that then they'd destroy GoPro.

@@ItzSKYVlogs sold it because it froze often and I’m not a fan of the GoPro mounts. The magnets are a big selling point for me. Plus size I own a pocket 2, I’m hoping that the picture profiles will not be dramatically different for editing in post.
Maybe you can confirm that for me? Are the color profiles for the Osmo 3 and pocket 2 similar?

I liked the looked of the Action 3 footage as it looked more “true” and not enhanced too much like the GoPro. With that said, still keeping and Action 1 & 2, I am still waiting on Pocket 3 if it has a 1” sensor will be Boss.

About the camera: I've been a GoPro user for years so I probably can't rate it objectively - but overall the quality is good and the second touchscreen is a highlight. My favorite is the fact that you can, quite simply, use any microphone. I mean, whiteheaded ninja, what's wrong with the GoPro product policy?

So what made the image freeze in the last minute? Is that a camera-problem or did something go wrong with editing or uploading? The rest of the vlog looked realy smart. Not as sharp as the GoPro but I often find the GoPro images too sharp...
results look solid. I'm still trying to work out if I need to upgrade from the Oslo Action. I only use 1080 not 4k.

dji action cant handle fast exposure changes well it seems. its too abrupt. the stabilization is still like floating in a boat unless you use horizon levelling. also i notice on other review videos the faces always look blurry. maybe you can compare the minimal distance that gopro and dji can do? the colors of dji look much better than gopro.

So you asked why not merge the best from GP11 + A3 = GPA14! 🤣
Well TLDR but here’s my 2 cents:
- GP was 1st mover with no competition so they slacked. And now with legit competition with DJI and Insta360, they need to rethink their strategy going forward.
They release a new product each year because they get pushed by consumers and investors to do so with unfinished products. So instead of pushing it out 1.5-2yrs before next launch, their engineers are focused on the next thing. Therefore reliability comes into play and more updates required.
On the other hand, if they don’t release each year, investors will bash them and I am sure consumers will do same.
So they need to stop listening to both and focus on internally delivering what Apple does, give what is universally understood “beautiful and high quality” and charge for it.
Look at the iPhone 14 launch. They bucket into two groups:
- non-discerning consumers, can’t tell the difference in tech improvements or know or even use it. Just want “latest newness”; and
- discerning consumers, want the latest tech for their paid work or love tech and willing to pay it.
So for iP14 and Plus models, use A15 2021 chip and sell for same price as last year but yield and volume improves and make more money and these non-discerning are happy. And for discerning, give the A16 and they appreciate and know how to maximize it and willing to pay for it.
I digress but back to DJI and GP. Both have constraints in capacity and capabilities.
GP is action cam company only but don’t have unlimited funds and need to perform every year or die.
DJI has a rich dad but then his to deal with a big brother who is much bigger and better with their successful drone lines.
GP will focus what they’re good at which is IQ. They will not focus on lowlight and reliability (see above explanation), and not on UI/UX. So DJI and Insta360 will push them to focus on this.
DJI will focus on reliability and UI/UX but behind on IQ.
But here’s where the plot is twisted from my POV. Everyone claims A3 at $329 is good value for money. I differ because it’s a A2 repackaged. That means same tech like Apple iP14 and Plus models (2021 tech) so we need to compare prices with GP10 which is $349 and at that price with subscription, you get replacements. For DJI, you need to pay another $35. So GVFM against GP10, I would disagree.
To compare to GP11, then we need to ask what’s it worth for:
- 10bit and better DR (two different things as one is bit depth and other is dynamic range);
- 8:7 reframing without IQ loss with the 27MP image sensor vs 12MP. It’s because when you crop, you still have EFL (effective focal length) than FOV (field of view). So when cropped as 16:9 or 9:16 FOV, EFL is still 8:7
- Horizon Lock in Linear mode (but not in 8:7) in most shooting modes except 4K120, 2.7K240, 1080 120/240
- Auto Boost
- Since same boring body, you get to reuse all the same accessories as GP9 and 10 users
- At $399 (not $499) either as new subscriber or existing subscriber (no longer need to cancel and rebuy, convenient for GP and existing customers) so the price difference is $70 for all the above main features.
Therefore who is it for buyer’s guide (from my POV):
GP:
- upgrading from GP4-9, buy the GP11 but with GP10, wait for GP12;
- needing all the new main features for paid work, upgrade to GP11;
- pissed off at DJI for their lack of consistent drive price, i.e. A1 GVFM, A2 expensive, A3 GVFM, A4 probably expensive. Same with drones M2P expensive, Air2S GVFM, M3P expensive or Mini2 GVFM, Mini3P expensive. So it’s a “pay now or pay later” scheme. And for A2 customers who paid $519 and now A3 will get 10-bit while A2 is at 8-bit with same image sensor, f-stop, and processor. Hmmm, get ready for deflectors
DJI:
- new to action cams, get the A3;
- upgrading from A1, get the A3;
- pissed off GP users due to reliability issues and bad UI/UX, go with A3;
- for A2 users, wait for A4
As for batteries, I prefer using the Volta or Insta360 powerbank + tripod for continuous shooting without having to stop and swap batteries so I don’t see a benefit for the fast charging. And the batteries output are similar, 1770mAh vs 1720mAh, a 50mAh is not going to make a difference. Temperature ratings yes, -20 to 45degC, more than GP enduro at -10degC. You also have option to use Ulanzi BG-4 at 5000mAh.
For QR (quick release), magnetic design is nice and carry over from A2 design but for this solution Snap Mount is much better as you can mount it on backpack, glass, car, and any other surfaces and use Ulanzi’s QR for GP mounts. No additional cost as I already have them
As a fan of tech, will probably buy both but pondering to wait as I already have the GP10 and A2. Waiting on P3 and perhaps next year’s GP12 and A4.
Sold my Pocket 2 and planning on getting Action 3. Pocket 2 was excellent but needed something more hardy especially waterproof.
idk if youll even consider this but osmo pocket 3 is most likely coming out at the end of the year and there have been waterproof cases for the past 2 models which can also be used as a hard case

Maybe the Action 3 will get better image quality on the future firmware updates. As of right now, my Sony FDR X3000 is simply the BOSS of both Gopro 11 and Action 3 at low light.
It also distroyes the Pocket 2...

It's all about lowlight for me. I know these things aren't built for it, but the DJI is more solid. I'm wondering if you have to try the same trick of bumping up the frame rate that you shared with the Action 2. I'm becoming more and more of a DJI fan as time goes on.
It seems like the osmo 3 is darker than osmo 1. I have the first generation osmo, probably i will wait for osmo 4 and i will upgrade my camera. Or what do you think? Osmo 3 is much better than 1?

I have to say while it might not be the most detailed image it certainly looks natural. Sometimes I think gopro has more detail and looks sharper but kind of looks a bit cartoonish? not sure that makes sense. Be interested to see your side by side comparison eventually though.
I think DJI is amazing for vlog camera and action. Go Pro is good but need to improve a lot special the overhead and the battery life and the front screen touch screen is so good with DJI.

Again I can not help to bring up insta360 especially the X3 with the big screen, you capture every thing. if you walk buy something cool or something happen in front of you it is captured the same as your reaction. but the next best thing is probably the dji osmo action 3. I have some footage from a fishing trip this summer I can show you as a example if you like. one button and you do not need to care about where the camera points.

It's an Action 2, repackaged to appease the crowd, at a price that's competitive.
I think it's the best value Action camera out right now. Mind you the Action 2 is also great, and offers more flexibility.
Does the Action 2 really offer more flexibility than the 3?
- overheats compared to the 3.
- Isn't waterproof up till 16 meters
- Isn't as cold resistant
- doesn't offer fast charging
- battery doesn't last as long

But Action 2 allows lighter weight option
Especially when wearing for hyperlapse.
It's less intrusive when vlogging.
Can be used easier on fpv.
...Can be expanded with add on module.
Battery life never an issue with a power bank handle.
Overheating only an issue with high resolution/FPS.
Hd is enough for me. Overheating not really an issue with real life vlog use.
Use free protective case.
Cold resistance no issue as Im not interested in Cold climates.
Would always use a case when diving as never know how deep I would go, and 10 metres more than enough for snorkelling.

Action 2 needs 128 GB of internal memory. 32GB is too small for 4K video.

You didn't demonstrate what makes this camera system special as an action camera. Everything you're doing with it can be done on phone or Sony ZV1 camera system. So from what I can see, not worth the investment if it doesn't solve a problem that something else can do as well or even better. ZV1 has 1 inch sensory BTW, better than OSMO 3 or GP11. Am I wrong?

I think GoPro hasn’t done a lot of the things that DJI have done (ie. mic inputs)... as they need somewhere to go in the future and “improve” the yearly releases... if they done everything that DJI have done, such as microphone inputs... then what can they do each year to make people want to buy the newest GoPro... we ain’t quite ready for 8K footage.... YET!....but it’s coming in the near future...
I just wish DJI had photo resolutions of 20+megapixels, so that’s why I’m screwing my nose up at DJI Action 3... 12 Megapixels... meh!.
