  • In this video we look at a Collins KWM-2 that was damaged in shipping due to improper packing. Have to wait for the new owner to give me the ok to repair. Packaging is very important specially with a vintage piece of equipment like this. If you like to discuss this :

What a shame to see shipping damages. You’d think that the owner would better protect it. Looking forward to follow up videos on this one. Thanks Buddy

I had a eBay seller ship a Tek 465B with a DMM44 in an old box full of peanuts. He didn't wrap it in bubble wrap. Didn't double box. Nothing. But that's not the worst thing he did. He put the cart in the box WITH THE UNPROTECTED SCOPE. The strangest thing is that scope and care were not damaged in spite of UPS's best try. Last night I received a gallon of Evapo-rust and some smaller items from Amazon. They tossed it all in a box with some packing pillows that were completely flat when I opened the box. The bottom was almost broken through but all items were inside except the receipt. This is a sore subject for me. I have too many dented and damaged items. As far as I'm concerned, once I pay for it, it's mine and it's on the seller to pack it right and insure that I receive my item in good shape

+Michael Lloyd Thanks for sharing Michael. I just do not understand what folks are thinking when they ship stuff. Ordered some 572B tubes from a guy. They arrived with no vacuum. Just some metal attached to a socket and a box of glass dust!.Thanks again for sharing and welcome to my channel.

Sometimes no amount of packing is enough to stand UPS abuse. I had a near mint AR-88 shipped to me in a custom made plywood box with custom internal wooden braces and sheet paper to hold the receiver in place. When it arrived it was clear that the crate had been repeatedly rammed with a fork lift. Holes were smashed completely through the plywood box. Needless to say the receiver is no longer in near mint condition. UPS initially denied any wrong doing. Eventually we were able to secure some compensation from them. But the receiver will never again be in pre-UPS condition. Don't ship your valuable old radios!

Very sorry to hear this. I do not use UPS any longer, Those guys just do not care. I have many folks wanting to ship me their vintage gear from across the country. Just not a good idea. Thanks for sharing.,

You could remove the tuning knob for shipping. Thats what I do for the FT101's and Drakes

Buddy, what's the current status of this Collins? Has the repair moved forward? Made a decision how to repair the bezel?
Always enjoy seeing "resurrections". Glad to see otherwise-scrap be put back in service.
Great channel. I'm subscribed and look forward to each new vid.

Thank you every much. I was able to epoxy the bezel back together. Sand it smooth and then painted it. Turned out real nice. Did not get any video of it though.

I would had taken out all of the tubes and individually wrapped them, then removed the knobs and packed the whole thing in a big box with PU foam all around it.

You have to wonder if the radio may have belonged to an SK and maybe the family didn't know any better. I would hate to think someone that knew better would be so careless with this radio. I like your accent, can I ask what part of the country you're from?

+TheDisorderly1 That's the problem when buying from ebay. You never know the real story behind an item. You may be correct.I am on the east coast of North Carolina in the USA.Thanks for stopping by

That broken bezel could probably be duplicated on a 3D printer.

I happen to know that I'm getting one for Christmas! I could try printing the part if you have a way to make a 3D scan of the old part or draw it up from scratch. There seems to be a way to do that with just a smartphone. 3dscanexpert.com/3-free-3d-scanning-apps/

That radio has moved on to another owner. I rebuilt the bezel with epoxy and turned out pretty good. But now that I know you are getting one......:-)

Sure I could try printing a part as long as it's no larger than 7"X7".
