There is a guy in the UK whose business it is to remove tree stumps. He used to use dynamite which is kinda dangerous and requires a special license, lengthy preparations etc . Then he bought a Unimog and now he just pulls them out with it. That is Unimog power!
It’s true as a friend of mine worked with them often having to repair the tree digging attachment on the unimog,,,based in Essex ,I remember him having to drive it all the way to Southern Ireland to remove trees and replant them elsewhere on the estates ,,,not cheap
Yes, Unimog's are cool (and powerful) but they are NOT going to "pull stumps" unless you are talking about little 4 inch stumps. I mean come on, the thing was losing traction just dragging that empty dump trailer up that hill !
In the early days of Operating the Harrier jump jet in Germany they quite often got stuck in the mud on field trials. One day a German farmer offered his Unimog to help. Since that day every Harrier Squadron got a couple of them as they were perfect for that role. I wonder if that farmer got any commission because he was probably responsible for a well over a thousand sales from the mid 60 onwards! Even used they on 737’s stuck in the mud in Belize when the airport tow truck gave up!
Raf used them for towing Chinooks as well but I'm pretty sure mogs were replaced by the dedicated jcb fastrac with load bed, tool boxes and air supply.
We had these in the RAF back in the late 70s, if you get one bowling along then stamp on the brakes it would do amazing ( scary ) stopies with the back wheels way off the ground.
I like how he didn't turn the wheels until he was completely off the gravel. A skid steer can turn around on the gravel, but you damage the smoothness.
Uncomplicated, mechanical power, not covered in 92 sensors behind each wheel to tell you it’s raining or dark or something else that doesn’t matter! A well designed machine that does its job relentlessly. There is a rail mounted one next to where I work and it was nearly new when I started 35 years ago. It’s still in use now pulling trains about in a yard! Bulletproof, long live the unimog 🥰🥰
Which is the reason for its existence - being a mixture between tractor and truck. But there is one real tractor - a version of the Hanomag Robust 800 - which is capable of running 100 km/h, so it can legally use the german autobahn.
It's easily explained by its name itself. Unimog is short for Universal Motor Gerät, in English "universal motorized device". Not "vehicle", "tractor" or "truck", but all their properties unified in one "device".
Geez! Some guys will do anything to avoid backing a trailer. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I appreciate how he backed up until the front wheels were off the road so that turning the steering wouldn't grind the gravel. That's professionalism on top of skill.
At 54 I won’t ever own one, but I had one as a toy as a kid. Cheapest I saw was £3000 and I figured I needed another £3000 in the bank to keep it running, so I didn’t buy it :o)
Funny I had a Corgi version as a kid too, one of my favourites. Even now on the rare occasions I see one on the road I have to point it out to someone.
Yeppers, powerful but let's load the double axle trailer with say ten tons of rock and then do a video of this same maneuver! That'll give it a strength test 🤔 and traction test as well 👍🤔
A proper 4x4, I lost the chance of getting 2 900's back in the mid 90's and I never got a chance again, closest I got was an RB44 that I upgraded to 7500kgs rating with a Perkins 109 phaser engine but it is half what a 900 is.
Besides the truck, that’s one damn good trailer hitch.
It was doing a bit of overtime there :o)
Ringfeder hitch. Standard hitch used for coupling road trains in Australia.
European stuff is always superior engineering!
Didn't see any breakaway chains though?
@@nickmaclachlan5178 I didn’t even look for that.

"Hold my bier" or "take this empty flasche"?

Hahaha..!!!
Gut gemacht unbekannter Fahrer! Lieber Gruß Uli

Good tires and a skilled driver
They are the most awsome trucks to go just about anywhere to do almost anything.
Wirklich stark! Da trennt sich die Spreu vom Weizen...
Wer oder was wäre in diesem Fall die Spreu bzw. Weizen?
Wow In such hill, with trailer and still managed to carry the driver and his huge balls. Good job Unimog!
Artgerechte Haltung ❤
That's knowing what your mog will do and what it won't. Best Mercedes I ever owned U1500
All wheel drive finds another short cut. Sweet truck.

Uni's are absolute beasts!
The Unimog is probably the closest thing to a tractor that you can also drive down the highway.

I love those trucks the best there is for what they are.
Took the edge of the track off.. lovely job

I was waiting for the trailer to go over the edge and the Unimog to pull it out vertically 😀
Cool as a cucumber. That man knows his machine.
Good Job!

It’s like the forbidden love child of a tractor and a truck😂
It looks like the trailer had drive axles powered by a PTO in the tractor?
Beautiful good machine ❤

Proper tires and diff lockers and most 4x4 cars could do a similar job as long as the area is flat enough to allow all tires to work.
As long as the area is flat a Ferrari does the job ....
Gut gemacht!
