Apparently, the developers forgot to put in the file that Claire can find. It reads something along the lines of "Due to the escape of a Gulp Worm, USS recruits have been armed with BOW Gas Rounds to help combat it etc". It was meant to appear somewhere around the training facility, where you find the bow gun.

@@InkWarrior No I think they were only supposed to be used for the Tyrant fight and nothing else. The fact that you get them right before the Tyrant fight, there’s only one set of them, the Tyrant is one of the only bosses they work on, and literally everyone agrees they are best used for the Tyrant fight makes it pretty obvious they were supposed to be used there. It’s not like Code Veronica doesn’t have other stuff like this either, the sniper rifle is a normal weapon that can be used on anything but you’re obviously supposed to use it in the Nosferatu fight for the same reason (except you lose the sniper after the Nosferatu fight because you switch to Chris after it). You don’t have to use the sniper rifle (in fact there’s an entirely different ending cutscene for beating him with the handgun or knife) but it makes the fight infinitely easier. Plus these things are way too strong to have more than a couple sets of them.

I think they are both good games, and that CV doesn't deserve to be saddled with the reputation of being a "spinoff title" and receive so much less attention for it than Nemesis did like getting the remake treatment. And saying that 3 should be a mainline title just because it got the number in it in the end isn't a foolproof reason, as I would never hear someone argue that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a true sequel to the series as opposed to Adventure or even Mania.

I completely forgot we made these! Yeah, documentation was sparse because they were made as mostly a knee-jerk response to the B.O.W.s breaking loose and were never tested extensively because of their obscurity and most conventional weaponry still seemed effective enough. They wer deemed as 'noteworthy and mildly effective, but not worth further development and implementation.' The 'gas' inside them is actually a more potent version of the sedation chemicle that is used in the suspension baths when test subjects are put in stasis. In small quantities, they sedate the subject and put them in a continuous sleep. When concentrated and weaponized, they cause severe tissue degredation in T-Virus cells. They're only 'mildly effective' because they lose effectiveness with repeated use against the same target, with some very rare circumstances that they can kill the target outright.

  • @evilresident1274
    @evilresident1274 Год назад

I had this in my "watch later" section for a long time, and I finally watched it, lol. Awesome! I always thought that they were meant to be related in some way to P-Epsilon. Since they don't usually deal lethal damage, but just affect the overall healthpool by percentages, my guess is that they are supposed to weaken BOWs, probably by messing with their metabolism or something and making their regeneration worse. Which is of course especially useful with Tyrants, which have super-powered healing.
P-Epsilon is called that because it is meant to work on creatures derived from the Epsilon strain of the virus (the t-Virus type used in RE1, and which the one in RE2 and RE3 is derived from). So it not having an effect on t-Veronica mutants (Nosferatu, Steve, Alexia, and even Alexia's babies as seen in the video) actually makes sense.
    Again, great video!

Well in classic RE2 they did explain that P-Epsilon gas weakens cell structures of B.O.W. but prolonged exposure has caused some of them to develop a resistance to the gas, and some even gets nutrients from it, like that overgrown plant in the shaft of the underground research facility
I guess only 3 rounds make sense. It was all supposed to be used on Tyrant (or the completely optional worm fight in the courtyard) You were never meant to take it to the 2nd half of the game (unless you need an easier time to defeat the worm as Chris)
9 handgun rounds is a bit too wasteful (and slow), 1 explosive arrow is enough for the catapult to finish it. Then again, if you went through the trouble of hacking extra gas rounds in, you can do the same with explosive arrows, then you won't need the gas rounds at all when you have what is essentially a rapid fire rocket launcher

Every time I played Resident Evil: Code Veronica, I never actually knew what the B.O.W. rounds did, but thanks to the easy experiments you did I finally know what the B.O.W. rounds do now, they cut the enemy's health in half and it makes it a lot easier to kill them, it doesn't work on all enemies but that's ok so just save em for the tyrant boss fight on the plane, so thank you very much for doing these tests Ink Ribbon, now I can play Resident Evil: Code Veronica even better now ✊

In Claire's battle game you can't win against Tyrant without B.O.W. gas rounds. The plane Tyrant fight can be easily won without using them entirely - just find all the explosive arrows and save them for the plane fight (start with the box, fire all rounds, finish with another box). B.O.W gas rounds go well with the first Tyrant encounter.

They kill the moths instantly in Antarctica; and them not working on spiders makes sense as you fill that one spider room with ANTI BOW gas in Antarctica to grab the gas mask and they were just fine. Plus, I believe this is the same gas technically mentioned in original re2 in the labs- the one that mutates the lickers between A and B playthroughs if you turned it on.

Some of your content just seems so random on first glance, and I love it cause it's always a good time ^^ I knew the BOW Gas Rounds were best used for the Tyrant fight, but never WHY, so it's awesome that this fairly obscure thing now finally has a real explanation (or at least as close to one as we're gonna get).
Seriously, I love your channel, Kai. I've loved this series through all its highs and lows, so I greatly enjoy anytime you cover RE content.

The B.O.W. Gas Grenade Rounds are 40mm grenade rounds whose warheads are filled with the same P-Epsilon Anti B.O.W. Gas used in the B.O.W. gas sprinkler system of the lab in RE2. Thankfully there's no evolved Lickers in Code Veronica that can become stronger due to prolonged exposure to it.

I think this would be a great video. If I remember correctly, Kai said in his latest stream - the RE3 stream with Lisa, that even he didn't find out what exactly the Freeze rounds did and how useful they were until recently. Some RE games give info on the usefulness of Flame vs. Acid rounds. But in general, grenade ammo is underexplained, despite the grenade launcher having the most variability in ammo with all its different types. It'd be awesome to see a video on this cool weapon and all its ammo types (and their various names, i.e. grenades, rounds, shells) in RE - Acid, Mine, Flash, Neuro, Electric, Explosive, B.O.W. Gas, Freeze/Nitrogen, and Flame/Incendiary. There's just so many! Save us Kai! Lol.

First time I saw them I immediately made the connection with the Anti-BOW gas in RE2 that you can unleash in the labs to weaken the enemies there. So I just assumed it worked the same way in CV but as a Grenade Round. Never made the connection that it cuts the health in percentage though. Just assumed it made enemies take more damage when shot.

I find it interesting that it doesn't affect the spiders or Nostratu which are both poison type enemies which might give a hint to what the gas is made out of since animals that are poisonous are immune to their own toxins.

After finding out about the knife actually being a kick ass weapon and the BOW rounds now, Code Veronica is a much easier game from an ammo management standpoint. It feels like a natural progression of the Classic RE games. You start off struggling and scared, low on everything, but the more you learn about the games you end up like a kick ass action hero on your 5th playthrough. There should have been an unlockable file you can find that explains these things tho, at least after you beat the game once or in battle mode.

According to Code Veronica X. The gas rounds are so weak their main purpose is use on zombies to temporarily stun them. Kind of like a powerful flash grenade. I also heard rumors that they do extra damage on the Stranger Things fly trap monster in Resident Evil 2.

  • @magnaesca165

I think the reason why gas rounds don't do any damage to those bosses is because the devs might have assumed that people would have used them up before claire's antarctica section, thefore they didn't program the gas round for those bosses. This is just a theory though.

It would make sense as to why the gas didn't worked on the spiders and Nosferatu. They're both poisonous enemies, and the gas ammo seems to be a poison weapon. It likely worked alot on the moths despite being poisonous because of how weak they are. Just stepping on them lightly would kill them easily.
