Lucy: well that's different Spanish is a foreign language Ricky: well english is a foreign language to me Lucy: well the way you speak it it is to me too 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Watch I Love Lucy each morning. Am 74, remember watching the episodes when they were not reruns. Lucy and Desi really loved kids. You can see the love in the interaction with Little Ricky and other kids on the show.
I always loved this show. I started watching it with my grandma and it was the episode when Lucy and Ricky moved out into the country and Ethel and Fred went over to visit them. Spanish is a hard language to learn. I always wanted to learn Spanish cuz jobs now days it seems like they won't hire u unless u know Spanish because not everybody understands English. I wanted to take Spanish in high school but they wouldn't let me take it because they said just cuz I have a learning disability that it be to hard for me. I got discriminated because of it. They would say I cant do this, can't do that and put me down all the time sense kindergarten but I proved everybody wrong. First of all mine is minor not severe, I can work, I can read, I can drive, I got a drivers license, I can cook, I can bake, I can tell time, I can count money, I'm more independent then most of the kids that were in my class. And im proud of it. Maybe if I decide to go to college I'll take Spanish. I think it be fun to learn to a new language. I know a few words in Spanish but thats about it.
@@rolandomota9258 OK. Just so u know I wasn't bad mouthing people that do speak Spanish I just know some people don't know English and I know a person that they do under English and they can speak English just not very well so they had a translater .
The truth is Spanish is one of the easiest languages you can learn because it's consistent, especially compared to English which is wrought with irregularities. Pronunciation can be a challenge tho if ur tone deaf or have a hard time mimicking sounds in general. As a kid, I couldn't roll an 'r' to save my life.
@@QuietlyCurious okay. Just alot of people told me that it's a hard language to learn. Teachers mainly when I was in school of course u read about that.
Kudos to you for overcoming your difficulties! It's never too late to learn Spanish - or any other language for that matter. I'm actually striving to refresh and expand on my 4 years of Spanish decades ago in high school. There are actually inexpensive and even free apps and Web sites where you can learn languages at your leisure. Eventually when I feel comfortable enough, I want to add learning French & German to the mix - this way I could have the language capabilities of the police officer, the drunk and Ricky in the episode where Lucy is duped into getting counterfeit francs in Paris and ends up in jail as a resutl.
"Latino" is an ethnicity not a race. A Latino can be white, black, mixed, even Asian! Desi was of Spanish ancestry and Spain is in Europe. It was, therefore, an intercultural not interracial couple. That said, I agree that its nice to see interracial couples and people getting along, but Desi and Lucy are not an example.
Lucille Ball had to fight to get Desi Arnaz to actually play her on-screen husband. The producers thought it was unbelievable that they would be married, even if they WERE! She pointed out how he fought in the US army during WWII, how he was against communism (due to his experience in Cuba), and how they showed on-screen chemistry.
I'm curious, was this played up for comedy, or was it really believable to know absolutely nothing in Spanish in the 1950's? All of the words she's struggling with I learned from watching Sesame Street, which came along at the end of the following decade. So did a lot of other people in the United States, which is why even though majority of people I know here don't speak Spanish, I don't think I've met anybody that doesn't at least know how to say hello and thank you.
The US was more isolated in the 1950s immigrants were expected to assimilate and there was much less international travel. Lucy's lack of Spanish expertise is believable for an average woman or man of the 1950s, except that I would expect the spouse of a Cuban immigrant to have picked up at least a little Spanish. Ricky's mispronunciations and grammatical errors were played up for comedy as was Lucy's lack of expertise
@@snowangelnc That's exactly what he was doing - translating. He said, specifically -' It means ' mama '. That's the textbook definition of 'translating'. @@valkelly3054 That doesn't answer my question. When you say "good night" in English it is a parting, not a greeting, so I was curious if it was the same in Spanish.
@@walmartpimp2 it is both a greeting and parting in Spanish translated as either good night or good evening depending on context. Although not as common in English good evening can also be used as a greeting where as good night is not.

She was a movie star before she and Desi created the show
