The fact that Deniece Pearson wrote and produced this by herself is incredible… Such a huge display of her talent as a female producer/songwriter at a time where many were not acknowledged… Massive achievement 👏🏽✨

Shimba Katema they still tour on the festival circuit , I caught them on the here and now tour in the early 2000’s at Wembley Arena. Seeing Deniece, Doris and co in person was mind blowing

To think, one of this criminally underrated and overlooked groups' biggest and best hits was actually written by lead vocalist, Denise Pearson.

This band got a bit of stick for living the pop star dream. They bought the supercars the mansion and the massive recording studio. Basically they did exactly what you should do in your teens or early twenties. They lived the dream. I'm sure now they don't regret a minute.

Ugh I’ve always been so affected by music - the sound takes me straight back to how I felt when the song came out. This feels like 1986, a long hot summer...I was wearing roller boots and had discovered those sweet necklaces. Seemed to be a disco at the Youth Club every Friday night where we would drink cola from plastic cups for 5p. We had competitions for fancy dress - I think my mum made me a big cardboard outfit as a Christmas cracker around the time I was listening to Five Star. I remember more than anything I wanted Silk and Steel on cassette for Xmas! All the girls wanted to be Lorraine and we all fancied Steadman! An age of innocence!

I have just bought there new greatest hits CD called GOLD what pure pop perfection. It takes me back to when I was a teenager what fond memories this is my ultimate five star song I will always be a fan they don't make pop music like this no more what a shame.

Silk and Steel was one of those classic pop albums like Blondie's Parallel Lines where the production sounded perfect for commercial radio, and every song was written to be a potential hit single. I know a lot of you diehard Five Star will disagree with this, but I really think if they had distanced themselves from the matching outfits and dance routines by the time of this album, their audience would have grown up them with them a bit more, and they would still be having success today, either as a band or individually.

There are lot of classic pop albums out there, and many would scoff at you comparing their results with a Blondie album! Don't talk silly, the 80s kept moving forward and by the nasty 90s, only the generally appalling 80s bastards (Madonna the vile, Sting, Phil Collins, Paul Weller, Cure) and all the stupid pop puppets Waterman's children were allowed to keep having artificial sales and positions. You know full well Five Star would never have an audience outside the 80s! No one decent is allowed to have ANY success in three decades of absolute crap that is alla bout utter bullshit and nothing else. The 80s had music, despite its few horrible spots that were all pathetically adored by critics and taken seriously anyway. Five Star were always one of the better acts, but then all the good acts have always be treated shabbily by labels, DJs and audience alike. And now they're all the wrong side of 40...
Kind of agree but BTL just wasn’t good enough to follow SAS. I reckon they should have disappeared until 88 and released godsend as the lead comeback single and dressed normally rather than all in leather . Hahaha. Another weekend should have been left to the dance charts only . And what on earth was the rock my world video all about ? !!!!!!?????. 4 albums in 4 years!!! Too much
