Just wrote a simple visual c# program to convert CC and PC codes to PageUp, PageDown, LineUp, LineDown, Mouse Clidk, Crtl+(zoom in), Crt-(zoom out). Still have a lot of PC codes left to program.
Nice summary. I just got one and you covered all the bases. Even though it has some limitations it’s pretty effective on my Catalyst amp. I can access all presets and toggle effects, boost, reverb and activate tap on this midi pedal
@@chrisamadeus4647 I was new to MIDI programming when I bought mine so it took a little research plus learning the unit’s interface but one I figured it out it was easy to program. Start/stop is no problem but using the commander for functions that require pressing and holding the switch for a period of time to actuate a function is not a feature the commander is capable of unless they have updated the software (which I’m not sure would fix the issue) or perhaps the changed the type of switches the commander uses since I purchased and programmed mine.
@@chrisamadeus4647 Just bought this pedal for the same purpose without knowing that the footswitches were latching only, however, I found that there is a custom firmware update that people made for this pedal to support momentary CCs. Beautful and nicely done appreciated. One other thing is the manual indicates that switches A B C D can also be CC messages and that would be very useful in my application with the Boss RC-500. Hi Jay! Do you use any expression pedal with the Midi Controller? Just wanted to know what actually is compatible with it and what not, before buying an expression pedal. The Melo Audio's own ones seem to be out of stock. Would really appreciate any input from your side.
it's a standard 5-DIN MIDI OUT port so no reason to not work with BT MIDI dongle like Yamaha. I will give it a try i think... i could be cool to use it wireless with an Ipad for example
Can you also use it via USB to iPad (with BiasFX) as well as connecting the midi to a BigSky to switch patches on that as well? Also can all 8 buttons be set to turn on/off effects?? THX
you could use it by USB and Apple camera adapter or you could also use a wireless/BT MIDI dongle on the 5 din MIDI OUT ouput of Midi Commander. You have 2 custom mode (CUS1 and CUS2) where you can program (directly on the midi commander, no mobile app or win/mac app) and send CC# command to the eight buttons. by default 4 uppers buttons send CC# commands (to turn on/off an fx for example) and the four lower buttons A,B,C,D are assigned to midi PC# command (program change) to do prev/next preset or bank but you can reassign these 4 lower A,B,C,D buttons to send CC# and so have 8 buttons with CC# command to turn on/off FX. the 2 buttons to the right are not reassignable. It works well with BiasFX2 and Amplitude 4/5 with PC# commands but with TH-U i have to use CC# command for bank and preset change.
Hi Jay! Thanks for the video! I am seriously considering to buying this controller to use it to modify pluggins settings and do DAW operations like play/stop/rec… etc. but I have a couple of questions I would really appreciatte if you could help me with. 1: Is it posible to reassign the “presets switch” buttons as whatever you want to? I mean, I am thinking on having 8 buttons to control my Neural Dsp plugin for example, or having 1-4 to control the plugin and A-D to DAW comands. 2: At 6:40 of your video, you said that if you assign one footswitch to any CC number this will not change if I change the bank??? For example, can´t I have in Bank 1, footswitches 1 -4 for playback controls and footswitches A-B to control plugins controls, and in Bank 2 other comands in the same footswitches??? Did I understand you well? If this is correct it would be really dissapointing in my opinion. Thanks for your time!

Hey! Nice explanation... I'm not the kind of guitarist who makes amazing solos, but, I am looking for a midi Pedal able to control a couple of bass-line synth and drum machine since I need to play the guitar while I change patterns... Does this midi commander support NOTE-ON and NOTE-OFF messages? Do you have a suggestion for running different MIDI Channels from one pedal? Thank you! I just subscribed!
Does anyone know if i can get this midi switch, plug it in my blackstar (which has midi input) assign 4 channels to 4 switches, and then assign the rest of midi switches to turn on and off amp built in affects. That way i could have all my channels and assign individual effects at will?
I use the device for controlling my HX Stomp. I use A-C for recalling presets and D as a dedicated tuner activation. The top row I use as stomp-box type mode and control turning on/off effects in the preset. You must use the 'custom' mode as the HX Stomp is not one of the default setups. The only "gottacha" is that you must setup your presets in groupings of 4 with the 4th in each group unused. You can still use the HX to select these, but not with the dedicated tuner button. The positive is that the three buttons on the HX are still available for snap-shot mode which is nice when a collection of changed items are needed (drive, volume, etc.). The expression inputs works well and I elected to use their mini-pedal which is $50 - 75. My CIOKS power supply handles the HX stomp and has a USB +5V to power the device. As an FYI, Thomann rebrands this device and it's a even a bit less expensive. ;) . For my needs and the money this was a no brainer to purchase. If you have a complicated setup, need lots of flexibility, or do not have USB power available, I would consider a different device
Can you use custom programmation in the midi commander for each bank? Example, if I want the 8 switches in bank 1 to control 8 Presets, and then in bank 2, all the switches to turn on and off effects of each preset in bank 1. In conclusion, use all switches in bank 1 as Presets or pcs and bank 2 all switches for toggling effects or cc for the bank 1 presets? Is that possible? Greatings
@@marceloaguileravillegas4607 I use the lower row of switches, labelled A-D as preset control. The top row I use to turn on/off each effect (stomp box type operation). The preset recall and effects on/off are different midi commands (PC vs CC commands). In the Melo Audio Midi Commander user manual, custom mode 1 & 2 lists that you can adjust the PC# or CC# for each key (buttons A-D and buttons 1-4). I've not setup this operation myself and can only say that it looks possible. In other forums customer's indicated the number (0 - 64 vs 0 - 127) may not be allowed for all items. In my setup I did not adjust every item and the default custom was close to what I wanted. meloaudio.com/pages/manual
As a quick follow-up, I would strongly recommend the Barefoot buttons to go on top of the footswitches. One of the footswitches was acting up (press/no press) and adding this on top helped the problem go away. This likely means it was just my issue on how I was pressing the footswitch. Also, now I can play barefoot as there is much more surface area to press :)
Thank you very much sir! So it's possible to assign for every switch if you want it to work as a cc or pc midi. Now again, my doubt is that if this can be re-programmed for each bank or no. So, if I programmed all of the switches in bank 1 to work like presets(pc), in bank 2 will they work the same way? Or I can just reprogrammed them? To say if I want bank 1 for presets and bank 2 for stompboxes
@@marceloaguileravillegas4607 Greetings, I'm not sure what you mean by 'bank 1' and 'bank 2'. Are these each row of switches, or a collection or presets? The function of each row of switches is determined by the setup you program but this is overall and not changed once in operating mode (using the device as you would normally). You setup your device listening for the midi commands for the various CC commands. PC commands are usually set in the listening device and limited in how you can change them. With the HX Stomp, it has a 'learn' mode where you setup each preset to respond to the CC commands sent. The PC commands simply select the patches based on a number. You get to order the patches any way you want in the stomp. The listening device typically can perform multiple operations for each CC command. For example, chorus and delay on, boost off. If you mean with each preset you select (or bank of presents), the midi commands sent with each foot switch changes, no this is not possible. I do not believe I've seen any device work this way as it would take a tremendous amount of programming and setup for the operator. If you come across a device that does this, please post it as I would be very interested in checking it out.

You have 3 custom mode (PC-8, CUS1 and CUS2) where you can program (directly on the midi commander, no mobile app or win/mac app) and send CC# command to the eight buttons. By default the 4 upper buttons send CC# commands (to turn on/off an fx block for example) and the four lower buttons A,B,C,D are assigned to midi PC# command (program change) to do prev/next preset or bank but you can reassign these 4 lower A,B,C,D buttons to send CC# and so have 8 buttons with CC# command to turn on/off FX. the 2 buttons to the right are not reassignable. But yes you could dedicate the 8 buttons to turn FX on/off with CC# commands. No mobile or win/mac app to program CC/PC command : you do this by entering programming mode directly on the midi commander by turning on and press button at the same time. you have a LCD display and navigate change value by pressing footswtich. the manual is very light but it's enough to understand how to customize PC/CC command send by each footswitch
