That's a good point. I appreciate this because I have difficulty picture text in my head a clear image like a lot of people so the visuals really help me understand more. With a writer like Lovecraft, his descriptions are often to vivid without saying much at all about the true form, I think that can be a challenge to adapt, but it's always one of the things which makes adaptions of his work so striking when done well.

It was then that I realized how deeply into madness I had sunk. I was determined that thing of horror at the doorway will not take me without a struggle. My eyes darted around the room until I spotted a handgun. "COME FOUL BEAST AND TASTE WHAT YOU HUNGER FOR!" With a flash from the muzzle, it fell at my feet bloodied and lifeless. As I inspected it, I realized it was the Landlord coming to collect the rent! What have I done? I turned quickly and spied... the window!

That's actually the first gameplay in a long time where we practically did not hear CJU' s voice (except the intro). The last mute gameplay was Amnesia The Dark Descent, I think. Both suprising and fascinating thing. Still, there was no highlights which is kind of a bummer but that's understandable why.
And one more thing: I'm not a great fan of H.P.Lovecraft stories, but the fact that CJU was playing convinced me to give it a try. And I do not regret it. Thank you. Really.

That was enjoyable, for what it was. I had to smile at CJU in his capacity as camera man, taking cues from the narrator about where to point the "lens." "I examined my surroundings more closely," says the narrator--Chris shows us the landscape. " The moon...shone weirdly and vividly above the towering steeps"--Chris shows us the moon above the monolith. So even though there was no commentary, CJU was very much there. 😊 Have fun this weekend, Chris!

Fun fact! Shit always went down by a gibbous moon in Lovecraft stories, as opposed to a full or new one. He could have had deep-seated personal reasons for this association, or maybe ol' Hates Progress Lovecraft liked how "gibbous" sounds like "gibber", making the reader think of madness and insanity via word association.

I really enjoyed this. I think it's an interesting way to present a story and make it at least somewhat interactive. The story itself is really short so I don't see how the developer could have made it any longer and it's free and competently made so there's not much one could gripe about. My only criticism is I felt the climax (when you see Dagon) falls a little flat. I never get vivid images of what I read about, but that's not really how I imagined Dagon. Granted, that's just part of adaption and I don't think you can really incorrectly adapt it considering how part of Lovecraft's mythos involves the Old Gods being incomprehensible and not really able to be visualized by human minds. Still, I think I think this was really interesting and I'd love to see more from them in this vein. If they stick with Lovecraft, I'd love to see one of the less-often covered tales that are crazy out there like Through the Gate of the Silver Key (A dude meets the old god Yog-Sothoth and gets transported inside the body of an otherworldly space wizard on the planet of Yaddith and fights for control of the body; it's really out there) or even something shorter similar to Dagon like The Music of Erich Zann (man plays an otherworldy eldritch tune on his fiddle to keep away the void from coming out of one of his windows). It's been a while so those story descriptions may be a bit reductive. Also, I wouldn't want to spoil all the fun of them.

Just in case you don't know of him (and don't mind just listening as opposed to having a visual), Wayne June is probably the best narrator I've heard when it comes to Lovecraft. He has the deep, gravely sort of voice that just really sells it. He's now know a lot because of the game Darkest Dungeon, but he did several really amazing book reads.
HorrorBabble on RUclips also has a ton of horror narrations. Not quite the deep voice, but nice, clear, and professional, for anyone interested in Lovecraft but also many other authors.

I've read Dagon a few times and has always been one of my favourite tales. So being a fan of Lovecraft I am in a position to leave my opinion.
I love what they're trying to do with visual representation of Lovecraft's writings. Sometimes the visual aides give credence to the material written. Lovecraft has often been accused as describing his monsters as indescribable horrors in order to get out of writing actual descriptions. I think this VN does a great job jumping in at that point and stretching its legs with the developers ideas on what and indescribable aquatic horror might look like. However, the limitations of the engine give the monsters a glossy phony sort of look so I'm not actually scared the same way as when I read Dagon. While I hold that opinion for us the VN the main monster looked good and I'm glad it did. My review of the piece hinges on that particular point.
Beyond the appearance the narration was spot on! I've listened to a few audio books that include Dagon as a short story and they all include similar inflections on delivery and audio quality. So, I would include this as one of the better performances of the story.
But, I have one thing that I dislike greatly about this presentation of Dagon. Once you commit the story to VN form It stops being an objective tale. The point that Lovecraft leaves in constantly and recalls the reader to constantly is that this might just be some Addicts delusions. By giving you a monster that the developer so painstakingly worked on it makes it come off as a certainty that the monster actually existed.
That leaves me with this... I'm happy this VN exists and that CJU played it (Thank you!). This VN has its flaws but its really good.

I feel like Lovecraft really doesn't translate well into visual media. It's always going to be underwhelming, since the images in games have limits and the ones in our imaginations do not. I don't mind the idea of a sort of interactive story, but I think there are other stories and authors more suited for it. Interesting to see, nonetheless.

I've never been a big fan of audiobooks because I can read far faster (my listening comprehension is not good enough for sped-up audio, which some people can manage), and this is pretty much exactly that. The art wasn't bad but it wasn't good enough to continuously stare at. Still, it's an interesting mix of literature and interactive media. Not for me, but I'm sure some people would appreciate this, so thanks for sharing as usual.

Love your channel, but I'm a little iffy on the whole "no commentary let's plays" style, especially for narrative experiences like this: you're not adding anything to the experience when you're silent, and the people who watch don't have much reason to go through the "game" themselves now. This /is/ a pretty cool experience though, so I'm going to pick it up, and it's not like this is the norm for you, but just sharing my feedback!
