  • Mozart Camargo Guarnieri was one of the most prominent Brazilian composers of the 20th century. During his career he composed two operas, six piano concertos, seven symphonies, and countless solo works for both instruments and voice. Though influenced by European music during his formal training, Guarnieri centered his works around traditional Brazilian musical practices as seen through his soaring melodies and rhythmic complexities.
Sonatina for Flute and Piano, composed in 1947, explores a wide variety of modern rhythms and harmonies showcasing both Guarnieri's Brazilian and European influence. Performed by Jonathan Mitchell (second year undergraduate in Music Education) and accompanied by Christian Clark (2nd year PhD in linguistics) we hope you enjoy movement 1 of this brilliant work!
On the Stage Together is a RUclips series created by Ohio State's chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota celebrating diversity and inclusion in music. Performances include works by female and BIPOC composers, while lectures and discussions surround topics of diversity and inclusion in music.
