A lot of old but golds: Superman: Red Son, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, Watchmen, Jack Kirby's New Gods, The Dark Knight Returns. X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills, Wolverine (Claremont & Miller), Old Man Logan, Thanos Quest & Infinity Gauntlet, and Winter Soldier.
I just Superman For All Seasons today and read it and absolutely fell in love with it i will be putting more respect on Superman's name from here on out
I’m jealous of your room bro you are a true comics fan I see your collections and book shelf wow that’s my dream room right there lol.. I’m just really broke. Also thanks for sharing earned a subscription!
A great indie read I highly recommend (especially if you are in high school) is Deadly Class my favorite comic series of all time. If you can stomach it...
I agree with you 100% about Daniel Warren Johnson. Everything I’ve read, and I’ve read it all, is golden. I have my favorites, but they’re all worth reading!
If you like "Hush”, I highly recommend “Heart of Hush" by Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen. When I learned about "Hush 2" I thought it was a weird project. I don’t know if it will ignore Dini and Nguyen’s work.
Glad I found your channel. I'm a big DC guy and absolutely love everything DWJ since Murder Falcon. LOve your energy and excitement and appreciate the work you put in to share so much great stuff.
Peak recommendations, picked up Transformers vol 1 by DWJ the other day, can't wait to get into the series- will 100% be catching up and reading his other works :D Picked up Rook Exodus because of you too!
Hey, man! I've got a few comic recommendations as well! If you haven't read any Hellboy I couldn't recommend it enough. It goes so hard. As well as B.P.R.D. which takes place in the same universe and it is a team book with really cool characters and I think it is the better comic of the Mignolaverse. And an entirely different universe, Harrow County. It is a creepy book with American folklore from the south. The art is absolutely beautiful!
I picked up that recent reissue of Something is Killing the Children issue 1 because of your recommendation! Very excited to start collecting its trades when I can.
Hello! New viewer here. As someone who has been reading comics for twice as long as you have been alive (Maybe? I don't know how old you are), I thought it would be interesting to see what someone much younger would recommend. I have to say, I'm impressed. I haven't read everything on your list, but agree with a lot of what you talk about. (I took a break from comics, for a few years, and missed out on Flashpoint and all of the New 52.) I agree that Loeb and Sale are a great pair, and would put Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips (Criminal. Relentless. Etc..) on the list of greatest creative teams of all time. As you were going through your DC recs, I was thinking "I have to mention DCeased," then, BOOM!, you threw it in, at the last moment. (There s a great DCeased tabletop game, that is SO MUCH fun.) If I may make some recommendations of my own... Independent: OLD: Mage written and illustrated by Matt Wagner. A decades spanning trilogy of magic and monsters. Image has published the entire series in six volumes. NEW: Stillwater written by Chip Zdarsky and illustrated by RAMÓN K PÉREZ. Can't really say much, without spoiling it. Marvel: OLD: Daredevil: Born Again written by Frank Miller, and drawn by David Mazzucchelli. One of my favorite comic stories of all time. NEW: Jed MacKay's run on Moon Knight. One of the best takes on Moon Knight in a long time. DC: OLD: The Question written by Dennis O'Neil and drwn by Denys Cowan. My favorite DC comic ever. NEW: This one is tough. Maybe Batman/Superman: World's Finest. A long comment, I know, but I always have so much to say! I really enjoyed your video, and will definitely check out some more.
Hey man, thanks for the kind words! And thanks for the recommendations! I've only read a few of those so I will definitely be checking them out!! And that DCeased game you mentioned, that sounds epic!!
I recently finished reading both DWJ books and SIKTC was my entry into indie comics as well. I have read Batman Court of Owls and planning on reading Hush very soon
Great video man! Thanks for the recommendations. I’m definitely gonna have to check out City Boy one of these days. If you haven’t already read it, read Batman: The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale! I’ve only gotten about half way though and I’m absolutely loving it. I’d also recommend Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps if you have any interest in the Green Lanterns. It’s a fantastic story. Green Lantern: Rebirth is also very good. It does a great job of making each Green Lantern unique in their own way. And for my final recommendation I have Justice League International! Such a great run that takes lesser known heroes (at least to the general audience) like Booster Gold, Doctor Light, Ted Kord Blue Beetle, Guy Gardner Green Lantern and many others alongside Batman and Martian Manhunter as team leaders. It’ll also influence some aspects of James Gunn’s new DCU! Peace out everyone! Stay safe and love each other ✌️
this video hit its intended audience I haven't read a single comic nor do I watch marvel or dc movies. I do read a lot of manga so i am interested might pick up your batman recommendation.
My Recommendations Indie: Gideon falls, something is killing the children, lock and key, the last ronin(tmnt) DC: the nice house on the lake(indie but under DC), Batman black mirror, Batman dark victory, Batman White knight, Injustice years 1-5 all 5 books, All star Superman, The Authortiy Marvel: Secret wars 2015, house of M, Venom by Donny cates, King in black also by Donny cates which follows his venom run and absolute carnage which is also part of this venom run and king in black, silver surfer black.
Yo I’m new to the channel so idk if you’ve addressed this before but have you ever read the Invincible comics ? one of my all time favorites it’s a must read if you’ve never read it before
Love the recommendations! I have read most of them, and will definitely check out ones I haven't. Here are some of my recs: DC Comics: Mark Waid's 90s Flash run. Mark Waid's and Alex Ross's Kingdom Come. Grant Morrison's late 90s JLA. DC One Million. Geoff Johns' Flash run in the 2000s. Geoff Johns' Green Lantern Run. Marvel Comics: Kurt Busiek's and Alex Ross's Marvels. Grant Morrison's New X-Men. Jason Aaron's Weapon X: Wolverine run. Rick Remender's Uncanny X-Force. Chip Zadarsky's Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man run. Indie: Mike Mignola's Hellboy. Kurt Busiek's Astro City. Jeff Smith's Bone. Brian K. Vaughn's and Pia Guerra's Y The Last Man.
Solid recommendations for new readers. I’ve always loved dc and marvel comics equally for as long as I can remember. Wally is the best flash though lol. I still like Barry a lot. Not the biggest fan of hush though. The art is amazing but I think the mystery is pretty weak. Long Halloween is so much better for me. Dceased is much better than marvel zombies. Marvel zombies is weirdly comically nihilistic. Definitely check it out though.
great video! I needed this becuase im a huge superhero and manga fan that's wanting to get into comics so this was super helpful. definitely will check these out! I'd love a video going over what comics to read to get into nightwing, becuse I'm super interested in dick graysons charcter.
A tip for this vid, you should of added time stamps in it and obviously each time stamp will have each comic in it because it would be easier for people, because let’s say someone is specifically only looking for like Batman comics it’s gonna be a little hard for them to find it.
That was me a month ago! I was totally ignoring indie books, and wow, was I wrong. DANIEL WAREN THE GOAT JOHNSON writes peak! Geoff Johns with the other Ghost Machine writers are incredible! And tbh, I think I prefer indie books now! Don't sleep on indie books.
Marvel: Old Man Logan(Mark Millar), Uncanny X-Force(Rememder), Punisher Max(Ennis, his one shots and mini series for Punisher are all great, The Cell, The End). Mark Millars indie stuff is excellent. DC: Green Lantern(rebirth and then his main series run), Planetary, Hawkman(Venditti), Batman Joker Deadly Duo(Silvestri). DWJ is great, his current run on Transformers is great and I’m not a transformers guy. I can’t agree on Aaron though, his Punisher run was an abomination.
Check out The Complete Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck by Don Rosa. Arguably the greatest piece of literature ever created (in any format). And P.S. , grab yourself a copy now while they are still available. Disney is banning some of the stories (apparently zombies are "racist" now) so don't know if it will ever be allowed to be reprinted again in its entirety.
Kind of an odd X-Men pick for an "Everyone should read". I'm sure it's good but I would've expected something like God Loves, Man Kills (or anything else from the Claremont era) or House of X/Powers of X.
Ah dang that's unfortunate! I normally hear good things about midtown so that surprises me, but I've also never order comics online so I don't really know of any website 😅 But i know there's a bunch out there!
Yoooooooo ! You think Planet Hulk is your favorite marvel book ? Flash is your GOAT at DC, you think Blue Beetle is underrated, man do you have great taste. I dug your list alot bro.
I've only been into comic for a few months now, but how do characters not age? Like spiderman life story is if he aged in real time, so obviously he isn't aging but how? Same with batman, hasn't he had 4 Robins at this point and the 3 before Damien have all grown up? Shouldn't batman be crazy old?
Batman is definitely a bit older now, but basically DC has "reboots" that reset character ages and such, and Marvel has a weird sliding time scale sort of thing where you the books are always taking place "now". Super confusing haha just try not to think about it too much when reading haha
@@Steady_packs One example I can think of is DC Universe Rebirth by Geoff Johns. The cast begin to realize that something is horribly wrong with their memories and that something isn’t right prior to the events of the New 52. I don’t want to get into too much detail to avoid spoiling but it’s great that they can acknowledge it through its overarching story.
I gotta be honest, DWJ is great but SIKTC fell off hard and hasn’t been good in a while. Also flashpoint isn’t the best intro nor is it close to the best. If some one wants more modern flash, they should start with Jeremy Adams or Geoff Johns’ original run
A lot of old but golds:
Superman: Red Son, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, Watchmen, Jack Kirby's New Gods, The Dark Knight Returns.

I just Superman For All Seasons today and read it and absolutely fell in love with it i will be putting more respect on Superman's name from here on out
Superman: Secret Identity and The Final Night are some of my favorite DC comics
I’m jealous of your room bro you are a true comics fan I see your collections and book shelf wow that’s my dream room right there lol.. I’m just really broke. Also thanks for sharing earned a subscription!
Great video! Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run really got me into collecting comics, so weird but in the best way, would definitely recommend.
Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing is king 👑 I also like the first few volumes of Sandman a lot
Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing is king 👑 I also like the first few volumes of Sandman alot
Great video and good recommendations! It would be nice if we got some overhead shots of each book you talked about :)
More great Indi reads would be Invincible, TMNT Last Ronin, Spawn, and The Walking Dead.
I thought last ronin was very bad. I know I’m the minority but I thought the writing was for a younger audience.
invincible 100%
Spawn gets a little old after issue 25
A great indie read I highly recommend (especially if you are in high school) is Deadly Class my favorite comic series of all time. If you can stomach it...
LOVE me some DWJ books.
Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees was a great read, highly recommend. Also, your content is dope man keep it up.
I agree with you 100% about Daniel Warren Johnson. Everything I’ve read, and I’ve read it all, is golden. I have my favorites, but they’re all worth reading!
Ayeee you know whats up 🤝🙌
Geff Johns is the goat 🐐 no matter what he writes he’s done a lot now all his new stuff with ghost machine it’s the peak
Couldn't agree more!
Keep up the vids i always enjoy especially the new comic book day vlogs
If you like "Hush”, I highly recommend “Heart of Hush" by Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen. When I learned about "Hush 2" I thought it was a weird project. I don’t know if it will ignore Dini and Nguyen’s work.

Fire video bro, can you show your omnibus’s if you have any and if you don’t have any what ones do you want? 🔥
I love the Omnibus editions i hope this becomes a video
I only have 3 😅 all 3 volumes of Geoff Johns Flash run
You gotta read Daniel Warren Johnson's Beta Ray Bill

W!!!
WATCHMEN!, Batman Year One, Batman Dark Knight, X-men Dark Phoenix Saga, V for Vendeta, are must reads... lots more out there
those are obvious answers tho
Glad you brought up city boy! It's sick!

He's truly the goat ❤
I recently finished reading both DWJ books and SIKTC was my entry into indie comics as well. I have read Batman Court of Owls and planning on reading Hush very soon
The video I was waiting for! New to comics and while awesome, seeing collections like yours are overwhelming for sure so this is clutch 🙌
I recommend everyone to read Jed MacKay Moon Knight run :)
I recommend checking Daniel Clowes Stuff if you are interested it indie plus also Mike Allred has some sick marvel stuff
Great picks

I’m reading through Extremity right now! DWJ is the goat 100%. I you haven’t read it give his Beta Ray Bill series a read too
Last book of his I need to read!! I have issues 2 and 4, cant find the trade or the rest of the singles 😭😭
@ I’ve seen the singles of 1 and 3 for cheap at discount book stores! If I find them for cheap I can try and send you them if you’re interested

City boy is a rip from the authority. Bs

Video was decent up until the Geoff Johns praise
what do you dislike about his writting?
