Hey, Legend. Long time viewer. Never commented before, but wanted to say I really prefer these longer videos, especially the disaster campaigns. So much fun to watch.
I'm not sure if this works with other cannons or just the Cathay ones but you can absolutely wreck walls by manually aiming at the ground a pixel in front of them. Because cannonballs keep doing damage until the projectile stops moving and it keeps trying to roll into the wall it applies damage over and over again. One volley from 2-3 cannon units will shred a wall like that.

Really interesting video. I'm only 10min in but hearing you talk about the situations where alliances are useful is a big change from what I remember being the case in the past (tww2 and other games) where it was mostly recommended to avoid alliances as your allies would keep dragging you into wars when you didn't want them. I'm still in that old mindset but will have to give that some consideration. Now to watch the rest of the video and see how it progresses.
Following your work for quite some time. I really appreciate these longer videos. Enjoyed high elf video a lot as well. Can't wait for new content. Keep up the good work.
My biggest problem with TW3 at this point is the lack of story. One key improvement they could make would be to have disadvantaged start positions for hard and legendary, rather than just throwing more and more armies at them that would certainly make things a bit more interesting as often the key to an easy victory is conquering somewhere fast. Another thing that then could be used for difficulty would be having more storyline things that occur during the campaign maybe give an enemy a little nudge now and then or something like that. Right now the game is feeling a little bit stale for a long term player, I mainly play Lizardman and one of the problems that fractions has is just such a small variety of basic troops my campaign, a choice between Soros with or without shields it feels at times, again an easy place to put a little variety in there.
I was thinking, GPT is getting good enough it’s probably possible to make a mod that writes little story vignettes for what’s going on in your particular campaign. A few evolutions past that and it could create custom scenarios for you.
Thats been a bit of a problem with the entire Total War Warhammer series. With the exception of DLC Lords, everyone has the same Campaign with one or two slides being for your race when starting the Campaign. They wont fix it because it is the incentive to buy DLC Lords. You get your main Campaign, then as they add it is "does not interact with the Vortex Campaign but has new mechanics blah blah". So the base races all have the same campaign and it gets tedious. Im happy with Immortal Empires though having added campaign type events for each lord rather than just their Campaign Stuff from previous games would be great.
@@justinlast2lastharder749 The problem with thinking 'the DLC will sell it' is that I have no interest in the new races, hence wont buy it. I do hope we get a story DLC, something that could add enough variety that could give us years of gameploay adding very little in new units.
This seems like a pretty typical Malachai campaign. Just did a coop campaign playing as him (my buddy was new to TW) and the war declarations were constant but pretty manageable. Had to give some ground to Grimgor and Astragoth while I got rid of Norsca, but only temporarily.
Just watched a vid from Costin (youtuber) describing how Malakai is hell now, with Arbaal and Golg (Ostland vs Nordland war too) put into the area. And it wasnt a cakewalk before the dlc, lol. On Legendary its pretty much a survival campaign.
Honestly, this email perfectly sums up why I fell out of love with TWW3, I just feel like all I am doing is expanding into the next region because the game always wants you at war. I understand the series is total war, but give my empire breaks, let me steer the wheel and not just keep fighting because some dude has decided to smash themselves against me. I've been replaying a lot of Rome 1 recently and just appreciate that it rewards longer term thinking and lets me plan my wars, build armies with specific tasks. I feel like I am at a point with Warhammer 3 where I have seen what interests me and I just want a wholly fresh experience, and I feel like I am not getting that in other modern total wars that use a lot of the same systems. TLDR, I kinda hope total war slows down again soon and encourages long term planning rather than just whenever I am not fighting just make people declare war on me just because the game thinks I should fight a lot more
WTH, we are supposed to have fun?! No one told me I should be having fun! Seriously, though, as a new player, this is probably not the campaign for them right now. There are several less stressful campaigns, where you can have friends who border you to mitigate some of the annoyance with being used as a punching bag by a lot of the factions.
Nah, even though I'm not "new" perse, everything I'd learned came from Legend, so I play normal difficulty and have fun. You can literally spam gyrocopters as a new player and destroy most of these factions. All he's been building is cannons and miners for 80 turns. Player's fault tbh, not so much the campaign chosen. Though at this point, I think he added "new" so as not to get cooked and roasted by legend lmao.
Malakai's start position just sets you up for chain declarations of war. Demons of chaos, the tallyman, all the mono god minors, archeon, skaven galore etc. he feels pummeled vs other starts. He can definitely fight everything especially with a couple gryo copter stacks. just feels like a 360 war constantly with the start. I get the hate but my guy really could just use some more experience before doing campaigns like this. great video legend.
Oh my god, this was literally me a week ago! 😂 Same character and everything. All I wanted was to cross the grudges off the book. But I spent like 70 turns having to bash all the way out to Naggarond and all the way down to to the southern coast before I could actually focus on any of them. Every time I got to thinking "well, I'm only fighting on four fronts, maybe I can actually do what *I* want now!" Nope, a fifth would instantly open up. Had one random chaos dwarf faction to finish off, but I just couldn't find an army to spare on them and their death stacks chilling on every city. And Skarsnik had taken the entirety of Karaz Ankor, become the number two power, and was spiking my ages of reckoning to like 70,000 grudges every age, but I could never find more than a single free army to fight the entire faction and didn't want to declare! By the time I could, the game had lost all joy, because I just had three blimps in every army, enough money to spawn infinite armies, walked across the map painting it without a single hint of struggle, and armies on so many fronts it took like an hour to get through a turn. I didn't even bother finishing the task before moving on to a new campaign.
no stream til next yr, "haters"/"ranters"/"redditors? kekw" bombarded legend from his last stream w/ negativity draining the "fun" out of streaming again. also Wife and Baby legend first > anyone else
Alliances are really improved in WH3 but they are held back by antiplayer bias. You can have 100 points with some faction, waiting for them to recruit a useful army to lend it, then some random faction declares war on you and they just bail with all those points. When you are at war with some faction, they throw ALL of their armies at you and ignore the AI. Especially in the beginning/mid of campaign you have less stacks then enemies most of the time. So you have to bait and take out stack after stack of the best enemy units, while your "allies" just take land without a fight and most of the time they don't want to trade it later. This is literally a USSR roleplay in WW2. I played a few Malakai runs. If you ally Empire/Kislev they just steal all of your stuff and and can ruin some missions (Kislev took Karak Dum once and cancelled some mission). They also have no qualms with taking yellow/red regions for them, just to stick it to you. Vampires like to declare war on you the moment they see you on the map, then they send Vlad every 2 turns with supporting stacks to annoy you, meanwhile donating land to Empire factions. Last time I played Malakai I just cancelled Kislev non-agression on turn 1, got realiability back to full by turn 10 and had a lot more enjoyable campaign. I also got the second grudge event to go to war with Kislev and wiped them out later. I used their yellow land to farm oathgold,, Drycha was happy and I got some treaties with her, the other factions in the region were taken out by Dwarfs and Empire. This secured my south flank and I had an enjoyable time destroying the Norscans and Chorfs. I wish they implemented something like the EU4 system for territory, eg. if something is red for your allies they offer the land to you with discount, don;t occupy it or just trade it somehow. Or you can somehow "mark" land and if they occupy it they just transfer control. Alliances feel like an annoyance most the time atm.
yeah.. masters of innovations have a really challenging starting position, i played a bit, and gave up quickly seeing how obviously it's going to turn into a game of whack-a-mole, but good thing is... for that situation, i searched for a mod to help me out, and i found just the mod "change starting location" ! and it was a godsend, i played a very fun healthy campaign as masters of innovations with that mod!
I just had the craziest thought that this was sent in by a young Legend- after all, we all remember how many times the old warriors of chaos drove Legend insane and quit back in the days😂
The biggest thing this player needs to take away is learning what buildings go where. I saw many too many minor buildings in major settlements and the latter having next to no landmarks or advanced military buildings.
Malakai's campiang, I think, is the craziest one. You're bombarded with about 5 or 6 chaos factions from every corner, and if you play on hard or legendary, that's several full stacks every turn. Malakai is strong, granted, not the lord itself, but his army and faction. However, the real problem is covering all of the distance
I just did a Malakai campaign where I went from conquering the Norscan Peninsula to fighting literally every chaos faction in the chaos wastes (Sigvald, Daniel, Epidemius (killed Archaon beforehand)). For me campaigns reach a point where you’re so powerful that no other faction is a threat anymore so the campaign becomes just janitor work. I’ve made it a point to get at minimum the short victory with every campaign while only going for the long victory when I still have interest
I know that feeling of people constantly declaring war on you as the dwarves and having a lot of bad armies and underdeveloped land. Just like the romans, I conquered the world in self defence. Or at least the dark lands.
I think this guy's major mistake was over-expansion. Instead of peacing out with neighbours by selling them back conquered settlements, or maintaining a defensible position by sacking (instead of occupying) exposed enemy towns, he kept expanding to wipe out his neigbours, which just brought him into contact with more hostiles.
ok, serious talk tho : during the intro, he is on turn 85. am i the only one who feels that around trun 70-75 the game just.... stops being fun ? like, it just starts sliding down from there, and youre basically on a timer until its just tedious ? and if im the only one, what am i doing wrong ? (this is pretty much across the board, all races, playstyles, lords, including modded ones like sartosa, very hard/very hard or legendary)
Same here. I think it is related to auto healing armies. Just keep rolling with the same gold star army forever and ever, as well as buildings doesn't really have any purpose anymore... Just gold farming.
I had this exact scenario. I got attacked by 4 different choas factions every turn in rotation, full stacks. I had killed Throt already, but i had a rotation of other southern enemies as well, includeing the chofs. I only had 2 armies; one stacked with high tier dwarfs in kraka drack, to fight of the invasion every other turn (often multiple stacks each turn} and the other army was the Thunderbardge doomstack, and so obviously was immune. Thats it, just turn after turn of warhammer itself conspiring to defeat the player only.
Wtf I've been playing the diplomacy game for years and I never knew that when an AI offers 1 gold, they can still be milked for thousands more 🤑. Does that weaken them at all (like preventing them from raising armies and stuff)?
The AI can be bankrupted but it's usually inconsequential. Can prevent them from recruiting and might disband some units but they get massive monetary cheats
They take me a little extra time but damn do I love seeing a multi hour disaster! Still reminds me of the dwarf challenge one that I wanted another 5hours for lololol
I remember trying to get a long victory for skaven. And I've done everything but have 50% of skaven corruption in my every province. Now that was Total Corruption: Peacehammer, simply chilling waiting for corruption to pile up :> To be honest I kind of envy this player. I enjoyed challenges every campaign has at the start but what I love the most is trying to win a difficult (total) war in the late game when both me and my enemy(ies) have lots of armies. Problem is by turn 200 I just steamroll the whole map. Back in TW:W2 I fixed it by playing Radius mod, it gave AI economy for many more armies (as well as a bit more for me), so I got what I wanted from the start. But in TW:W3 it doesn't help. In fact lots of strategy games share this problem - AI becomes much weaker the closer you are to the late game, stellaris for example. So yeah, that's my problem, I'd love to play a difficult late game but AI is too bad at developing their forces. However I've seen on youtube an Archaon sort of disaster campaign (on legendary) which has begun at release of mortal empires and is currently at turn 564 (It has taken around 300h). The player is stuck defending the whole north (from Naggarond to Cathay) from order alliance that attacks with their swarms of armies. The player slowly pushes forward but every turn takes a few hours of fighting battles. I am not sure what caused this situation in the first place, perhaps the lack of expirience in at the time newly released Mempires, since every other campaign this player has played is similar to mine - a struggle at the start and smooth sailing afterwords.
I can feel for the guy, idk how many times i didnt had a chance to do faction mechanic fights or quest fights because i had to keep my main guy army contantly fighting off enemies and honestly it wasnt fun at all.
Oh that AI script, I totally suspected it as well. How like, you're surrounded by 10 enemies in your campaign, all reputation wavering between 25 and negative 150. And they one by one declare war on you. During the later stages of the campaign, they all just cave, and they all declare war on you.
I kinda get what's frustrating the dude. As the game is now, whoever you start with campaigns will follow the same "structure" because you're always reacting. What I mean is you start at war with one faction which will provide your starting province. After that you'll have one or more obvious targets, you either pick one to progress or they declare war on you making that choice themselves. So you get on clearing this facton. As you get further and further from your capital your settlements get less and less defendable, enticing other factions to try taking them. This usually makes some faction on the opposite side of your territory (relative to your legendary lord's position) declare war. At that point you either make a new army or crawl all the way back to defend with your LL. Either way this starts a repeating process of chasing issues at opposite sides of your territory as pacifiying faction after faction repeats the same process taking your army farther and farther, meeting new factions and making others declare war on the undefended side again and again. This leads to a game of whack-a-mole as you're chasing cowards around and due to the arbitrary tendencies of diplomacy there's little variation. All around there's little room for player decision and it's mostly a matter of chasing threats arising on the opposite side of where you are every time. Even treaties aren't fixing the issue because once a faction doesn't have any more enemies around it will arbitrary start hating on you, so total conquest is pretty much always the only real solution to each issue, everything else is just postponing. Overall this makes campaigns feel stale since despite the character mechanics you're ultimately doing the very same thing in every campaing, namely running north to south or east to west squishing all the annoyances nagging at your opposite borders. The greatest challenge ends up being not wasting turns moving around every time. Maybe the map is just overcrowded at this point? Or maybe the AI is too simplistic and cowardly?
Legend I’m not saying live stream, since I guess you would have done it already, if it was the plan/if you wanted to, but getting to know your takes, on how much you like the factions, mechanics, ideas in the DLC would have been so fun (maybe some ways to cheese things, which I think there are many now :D). Not a review per say, just some free blabbering about the stuff that got released :)
Malakai to me is easy but challenging, you can also do the adventures whilst picking what enemies to fight, i help out Kislev first then try and quickly take out wulfric then move on to archaon, tamurkhan, kholek if hes alive, grimgor then Astragoth
I recently came back to play twwh3 after 1 yaer and the game feels different, surely it's not as easy as it used to be, AI is making more mixed armies and old habits had to change .
Play style tracks offer up variety. But when you have a collection mini game it can interfere with that if like WHII a key city is under threat. .so you turtle up and grow slow.. Imriks dragon capturing or Treasure maps and sea shanties psc of eight take time to get a fell for some. Less macro starter campaigns help.
1:38:50 Such a stupid mechanic of Total War, the first unit is labelled as the "Lord" of the battle, fighting against Ogres and Orcs there is a huge chance that lord ends up being the weakest unit in their army.
To be fair playing Malakai feels like you are defending Normandy from chaos. And if you are not lucky and Kislev doesnt get its own territory you are just sandviched in between chaos skaven and a lot more chaos
As you can see, he used the "I'm a new player" exploit at the very beginning of the email. There's hope for him yet! :P

But basicaly uf youre not sure how to look for these mods, just think of what makes warhammer unfun for you and look for that mod specificaly, i guarantee u there are mods for almost everything at this point. Just go one by one until u have a bunch of mods that fix stuff thats annoying and unfun for you , maybe try some of the bigger overhaul mods like sfo or others
I just cant bring myself to do Wurrzag. I hate Savage Orks and Goblins. I want Da Biggest and Da Baddest with Da Orks. I can't justify not playing Grimgor for Orks.
Lol that flying Orc Lord's move was true cheese troll

Following your work for quite some time. I really appreciate these longer videos. Enjoyed high elf video a lot as well. Can't wait for new content. Keep up the good work.
Thank You for repair this campaign, was very good to watch.
It's a noble thing to fix his game so he can have fun, great thing to do.
I love this Campaign fix vids, helps a lot and I am really enjoying this.
It is fun to watch this kind of campaigns, because im a noob at TWW3 and looking at all the mistakes and corrections improves my own playstyle.
An absolute delight watching the process of putting a campaign in the right foot. I'm learning so much ❤
Love the longform content. Keep it up, Legend!
I know he’s prolly busy with his child’s first Christmas, but I hope we get a stream with each new lord!
Things I've learned about TWW3 as a new player watching youtube. Strong units are necessary and.... I LIKE MONEY.
Today is the day when Legend agreed with his own "but Legend"
If hes hating chaos as ther Dawi, hes gonna love the Skaven. :)
Was hoping for a stream ngl 😢
Probably in the new year.

@@Dannananan-b4mdamn fr? Legend should get some mods
"[They've] got Azazel, we've got .. dogshit" - great line
That battle in doomkeep was pretty good, liked the formation.
"And what did I accomplish during my reign? Nothing! Not a single year of peace! Only years of constant war! The gods have abandoned us!"
ok, serious talk tho : during the intro, he is on turn 85. am i the only one who feels that around trun 70-75 the game just.... stops being fun ? like, it just starts sliding down from there, and youre basically on a timer until its just tedious ? and if im the only one, what am i doing wrong ? (this is pretty much across the board, all races, playstyles, lords, including modded ones like sartosa, very hard/very hard or legendary)
Same here. I think it is related to auto healing armies. Just keep rolling with the same gold star army forever and ever, as well as buildings doesn't really have any purpose anymore... Just gold farming.
And playing cheese battles is utterly boring.
@@VarlothThanks buddy

These long sydc are just an absolute treat.
They take me a little extra time but damn do I love seeing a multi hour disaster!

What a maganificent unifying purpose
Wow nice didnt know you can banner the settlement garrison. Thanks!
I remember trying to get a long victory for skaven. And I've done everything but have 50% of skaven corruption in my every province. Now that was Total Corruption: Peacehammer, simply chilling waiting for corruption to pile up :>
To be honest I kind of envy this player.
Since the Patch is already out, Legend will love/hate the Khorne changes. Blood host dont cost upkeep anymore! But they now cost 1500 skulls to spawn.
I love these longer disasters.
I can feel for the guy, idk how many times i didnt had a chance to do faction mechanic fights or quest fights because i had to keep my main guy army contantly fighting off enemies and honestly it wasnt fun at all.
Rule 1 of any disaster in life is HAVE FUN
Thank you! 😊
What kind of sorcery this is? A dwarf with 54 speed!
1:35 I don't know if I have ever verbally laughed out loud at one of these videos but here we are
Building defenses in the main settlements could have been useful if you like to have a lot of enemies. Lovely disaster campaign ❤
Good to see legend in a scuffle
Man when legend has to help player to have fun, that makes me believe that tw has fallen
The dwarf yelling short so loud would've been dog piled and used as bait
Oh that AI script, I totally suspected it as well.
How like, you're surrounded by 10 enemies in your campaign, all reputation wavering between 25 and negative 150. And they one by one declare war on you. During the later stages of the campaign, they all just cave, and they all declare war on you.
From the thumbnail I thought this was about a Chaos campaign, because that's how I feel when I try and play a Chaos faction.

I'll be honest, he should have just made a new campaign, taking all he learned into it
I tend to find I have the opposite problem, the danged extra stuff like missions and all that they make you do gets in the way of the wars XD
1:47:27 Skaven moment right there🐀
3 hours vid ! you naughty naughty, you teasing me you naughty naughty !
I recently came back to play twwh3 after 1 yaer and the game feels different, surely it's not as easy as it used to be, AI is making more mixed armies and old habits had to change .
Thunder barges. Thunder barges. Thunder barges.
To be fair as a Legendary player, i restarted this campaign 20 + times.
valid crashout
Jeez I'm playing the new Arbaal campaign and even I don't have as many enemies as this guy. Overextension leads to frustration and burnout.
Any plans for livestreaming next year? Wish you the best.
*Fast for a dwarf
1:38:50 Such a stupid mechanic of Total War, the first unit is labelled as the "Lord" of the battle, fighting against Ogres and Orcs there is a huge chance that lord ends up being the weakest unit in their army.
