    If you are planning to fly in sunny days make sure you put black tape to the sides of Naza (AKA black tape mod), I had my 600 size quad free falling from 100m to ground due to sun light messing with naza barometer.

      Black tape? Wouldn't that heat up the controller even more?

    • @MH-jf3dt

      Heat is not the problem here the problem is sun light & black is known to be better for blocking light.

      That's honestly a quite nice range with 2.4Ghz, nothing to be ashamed of lol
      I honestly miss that time, no regulation, no crappy android apps, no mavic users who think sky belongs to them!
      Happy midweek and keep on flying!

    Hey Bruce, i am sure someone else mentioned it. But i dont want to go through all comments.
    You can secure the gps with some CA, you will get it loose with some heat if you want to take it apart. + For the flight modes, set up a mixer to get the flightmode channel between Atti and GPS oder Atti and Manual, now you have a switch for failsafe/RTH.

    Howdy sir :) on that receiver: doesn't it Allso output PWM when you connect it up to the Naze via Sbus? (several other frsky receiver's I've treid work well that way)

  • @sjobbefin
    @sjobbefin 7 лет назад

    You can bind the X8R into Mode 4(D16) = CH1&CH2 and CH3&CH4 jumpered. That way you can use SBUS and get CH9-16 to the gimbal

    For the GPS antenna they normally have some think black tape in the box that is put on the end of the tube to make an interference fit that can part should it impact. Among my tri and mini quads hangs my original Phantom and a 550 hex with the M naza, right tool for the right job, as a photograph platform it's great. Also when I take out a neubie I let them try the Phantom as it's easy to fly and get a taste of quads. Thanks Bruce for the vids.

    Did a double take when I saw the title - even though Bruce mentioned this in a previous video - and had to check again when I saw that wooden beast without Windestahl yelling "Do so stuff!" I've got a Naza M Lite, with a V2 mod, on a Quanum Venture. The mod really fixed a lot of issues, and made the experience much, much better. In 2015. I am very curious what state iNav is in, or where Ardupilot-based systems stand in the years-long war against DJI's FC. When I last used an APM, I was programming waypoints into my 450 via 915mhz or bluetooth, with my FPV video overlaid in the Mission Planner screen. It was very elegant for it's time, but DJI has absolutely reinvented what a drone GUI should do since then.

    What would be the best choice to make a DIY multirotor (prob a hex) that mimics most of the features standard on the DJI drones? Mainly the way it interacts with a tablet / phone.

    Have you any testing experience with a co-axial octocopter drone? I am working on a large heavy lift one and one of the local"experts" said it would be 20 percent down on performance to an equivalent conventional spider octocopter. Your thoughts would be much appreciated sir.

    Said Bruce - can be unofficially upgraded to a Naza M - I purchased the Naza light a year ago and have no problems with it. The quad must be tuned to fly good BEFORE using the DJI stuff. BUT anybody thinking to save money and illegally "upgrade it" needs to do a lot of checking first - there are are a lot of issues AFTER the upgrade and waiting 5 minutes for the board to warm up. Others report a serial number request popping up.... and attempts to "downgrade" back to Lite also has issues. I did not try to "upgrade" mine. I did buy the M v2 cost was and is reduced on FoxtechFPV. Dont bother trying to save money both version d o a good job of what they are intended to do. The dreaded flyaways and other issues are usually down to bad setting up rather than DJI in built problems. Ayybody on the Central Coast wanting either version - with or without the quad it flies..... ?

  • @Rooster9911
    @Rooster9911 7 лет назад

    Bruce, your Quadlugs frame looks as if it has an bit of an "deadcat' layout. Maybe this compromises the flying behaviour a bit as NAZA probably expects a true X configuration?

    Did you dance with the Naza Bruce?..calibrated it? :-)...of course you did....In the assistent you should setup the "forced-failsafe switch"and use that switchposition when you setup the failsave on the TX...i've been flying a few years with the Naza and never had any problems...

  • @ChrisHellyar
    @ChrisHellyar 7 лет назад

    Someone probably already said this.. Turn the gps/compass puck clockwise about 40 degrees for the heading offset will remove the toilet bowl.. Naza is OK for photo platforms on larger drones, but nothing like an APM or other newer design. The full V2 is much better than the lite, but still not a hotrod controller. (I've got two large camera platforms with V2's on them.)

  • @HughD
    @HughD 7 лет назад

    Bruce it's been awhile since I've messed with my one quad with a Naza Lite with the firmware upgrade, but as I recall the GPS module is pretty marginal by today's standards. I found an upgraded module on eBay which improved the toilet bowl and other problems you saw. That was a couple of years ago and I don't have a good link, but an eBay search of Naza Lite compatible GPS will bring up some current listings.

    How does configuring the NAZA compare with APM?

  • @ChrisCanMakeStuff

    You can run the PPM and SBus at the same time on an X8R. I just run the Sbus the the flight controller and have channel 8 and 9 (I think) mapped to the shoulder switches on the Taranis, and run those out to the gimbal from the receiver.

    • @athertop
      @athertop 7 лет назад

      Better still, bind with jumpers 1-2 and 3-4 and use sbus with ch9-16 on the pwm pins - great for gimbal control or light switches. Or if your gimbal supports sbus too, then daisy chain sbus-naza-gimbal.

    Turn your GPS a little to the left if its toilet bowling to the right , just a bit off of dead center true North. There is a actual True North degree you can look up on the internet that matches your location , its a bit off of the reading that a compass shows.. Did you do the GPS calibration dance? This F/C is a thing of the past but still not a bad unit. Use a separate switch for Fail safe as well as setting up your RX to have it as well.

    I still own Naza Lite flashed with V2 firmware. Always locked in pisition, never had any problems with it. Just works. Pretty much plug and play. I have wanted mission planing and telemetey Pixhawk is offering, so I bought it. Unfortunatelly, everything about it was problematic. Firmware flashing, setup, calibrating... I was ready for fiddling around, trimming, adjusting, but I still... I was never satisfied and left the project.

    Those receivers should have a mode where you can put out 8ch sbus and 8ch pwm for aux functions. That way you can use sbus for flight controller and ch 9-16 pwm for aux channels. Also you can believe it or not, run a y cable from sbus output from receiver and use 1-8 sbus channels for flight controller and run the other end to a sbus compatible gimbal and set ti to use sbus ch 9-16

  • @RoboTekno

    -Come on Bruce, you simply glue the GPS mast in place with epoxy... haha.
    -I also have a classic NAZA which is basically a NAZA Lite. I could never get rid of the toilet bowling. DJI says you have to rotate the GPS mast a certain way to get rid of it. Something to do with compass offsets or something with new firmware.

    • @MrAlcoholic3
      @MrAlcoholic3 7 лет назад +4

      Its about the north /south hemisphere if your Z X Y setting are right and the system goes into toilet bowl turning clockwise you need to reposition the gps about 10 to 20 degrees to the left and if its turning counter clockwise it needs to be turned 10-20 degrees to the right...after repositioning the gps should be recalibrated again. In NZ mine is 15 degree to the right and work perfect.

    I have the same flight controller, the same receiver and the remote is Taranis Q X7. The receiver is green so we have a good connection and when I plug the flight controller(naza) to the computer I can check that the input on the remote is transmitted to the flight controller. However, the motors don't want to turn! They beep indicating they have power but the arming sequence doesn't work.
    Any idea of what I'm missing? By the way I'm using Sbus
    Please help! I need this thing to fly
    Note1: I have bypassed the flight controller and I have checked the motors work fine.
    Note2: The only movement I can get from the motors is pointing both levels up to the center. When I do it they turn but that's the only order they obey. This gets me crazy because that movement doesn't even belong to the arming sequence.

  • @juergenstremmler2286
    @juergenstremmler2286 7 лет назад

    For Pos Hold you have to consider the accuracy of the GPS.
    Even if GPS is connected and receives enough sattelites the accuracy is approximately +- 1m.
    So the FC will get contradictonary information in Pos Hold which it tries to correct. This is what you have seen when flying in Pos Hold.
    So it is just a matter of tuning......
    And btw as the hardware is same as NAZA-M you can flash a cracked firmware iof NASA-M to it and then it operates much better , does even waypoint navigation and autonumous flights. And when comparing it to a NAZE32 with iNAV firmware and GPS it is an inexpensive and good solution.

    Before I started flying planes I purchased a dji f450 with naza lite. It went wrong so I then purchased another one with naza m v2. I flew better, more stable. However I had it go mad on me twice for no reason. No failsafe triggered was flying 5 m from myself and it went into return to home but instead of landing where it took off it went nuts and flew into a line of trees 100 m away. Scary as. I dismantled it and chucked it. Couldn't trust it. Was very happy with it until then but a big quad just going crazy like that isn't good. Thing is majority of the time it would fly lovely but then just go mad. I lost faith in dji after that. The return to home and fancy modes are fine until they go wrong.

      STRYKA FPV Coll ;) I had my naza since 2015 but sold it a few weeks ago. still waiting for my GPS module to arrive. Inav seems to work fine and is perfect for me. because I only need Rth if I lose my signal. I don't wanna go further than 3km with my taranis (my personal record is 1.5 km) and do mostly fly in Angel mode.

      Yer think he's lost the plot.. if you want to review anything then surely the Pixhawk2 would be a better newer option..

    the case lets light through so the barometer doesn't hold altitude well unless you keep the sun away from it......don't believe me shine a bright torch at it and watch the altitude change

    You'd be better of with a APM, which is very obsolete itself. Try a Pixhawk or a Pixhawk 2 if you want something special.

    As for the GPS Antenna, I've worked with Military GPS systems, in conjunction with Comms, EW Platforms, Special Camera Systems etc. They all pretty well use the same coax connector and the same frequency. some are magnetic-based, single screw/bolt mount, triple screw mounts. You can source these and surface mount them on your UAV. there's even these that are 2.4 GHz little gems that I plan to use. : www.sanav.com/ceramic-bulk-smt-antenna.htm

    you need to make sure your center of gravity is perfect.......also calibrate the gps unit....you can get rid of the toilet bowl effect by turning the gps unita few degrees to the left or right of center....it will sit dead nuts still then......remove all red wires from esc except for one....add capacitor to one extra channel....by n1osd and one 5.8 gig tx and youll be kicking but with that beleive me
