@bosnianbill I haven't been into lockpicking in years. Recently lost a key to an old lock and a gun case and just made a paper clip S rake and makeshift tension wrench, and I popped the lock right open with bitch picking. But after watching hours of your videos I ordered a new pick set (gave my last one away) and decided to get back into picking. I just wanna say thanks for all the extremely well presented (and often hilarious commentaries) on your videos. Extremely informative for the security minded individual. And great a advice on types of picks to use and tensions wrenches (your 500th video about wrenches was fuckin epic). I should get my pick set (southord pxs-17) in early this week and I'm exited to start again. So again, cheers on the excellent information and wonderful videos :)
Good stuff bill! The shims I have look the same as yours, very seldom use them but they're really strong so I'm sure they'll last a lifetime. That's a good tip about going for the narrower gap first, seems like common sense but a lot of people wouldn't think about it. Keep em coming :D
Jim, you GOTTA get some. They really are under utilized tools. I call them my little insurance policies. Can't pick a lock? No problem, shim it. Works more often than not.

Man i have trouble with this lock… I can do lock out tag outs decently and I’ve done tons of American locks. This one give me issues. I get the false set constantly. I believe I’m stuck on the front pin. I need to try top of the keyway tension maybe. Good videos!

Can you please try to pick Onguard Brute STD u-lock? It has 16.8 mm thickness. Be a shame if it was easy to pick, but it is a flat key so not that easy I guess. But you are the expert. They rate it as the best bike lock right behind Kryptonite Fahgetaboutit

That little white plastic thing on back of package. take it apart. they have very thin shim like strips inside.

+bosnianbill thanks, and your videos helped me open a new 6 pin American A1100 that was terrorizing me for 3 days.
+bosnianbill I almost put a hydroshock round into it.
+bosnianbill after 2 days I put it away and watched videos and studied the pin lengths. after that I figured how many clicks I should get on each serrated pin by each length that I should expect without over setting a pin. I mapped it out in my head and a minute later I thought it should be picked increased tension and it turned open.
50% or more of locks are shimable... now thats scary, i'll have to re-evaluate my locks
