the 1.8L 7afe in the 1993-1995 had this ring problem. Mine was a 1994. The 1.6L 4afe was fine, as well as the later 7afe, where they apparently fixed it for 1996-1997.

I had already replaced the heart once, this was the second time it died. And, the car was rusting apart.
