This was truly the first afrobeatz groove that caught the nation by a storm in late 1996-early '97. I was still in Primary School then and it was all over the radio...tears
Omololu story is straight Idris came to him for the first recording of shakomo and told him he is looking for someone to take the chorus for him. Omololu was the one who recommended Eddie to Idris for the chorus. Idris brought Tony in for financial issues. God planned their journey well. If they didn't push Tony away, he wouldn't have become a solo star musician today, he would have remained in their shadow. Every disappointment is a blessing. They should embrace one another and work together for fun once more.
But Eddy Montana is claiming the Sakomo track was written by him and in fact he had performed it for a while on the streets before he met Eedris who he needed to rap to it. He claims Eedris then took the track to Omololu. This is where the drama starts. Clearly from Omololu's account Eedris claimed it was his and he was looking for someone to team up with. If Eddy is right and I think he is then it was just a coincidence that Omololu named Eddy( who by the way he met before Eedris). If he had named someone else, Eedris would have stolen the track without giving credits to Eddy. Ofcourse Eedris pulled this off by telling Eddy he took the track to Omololu to produce for them( not himself) and so Eddy was fooled. Eedris is a gangster in is own words and he lived under the bridge for a while and so his underhand tactics are understandable.
Apparently the song was already a hit by Eddy before Eedris came into the picture. Song was already popular at Yabatech and all...and anyone who has a bit of music ears and what artistes can do and not do, can tell that song had the DNA of Eddy remedy. It's like Square, you can easily tell a rude boy song and a Mr P song, there are elements to it. Eedris did not own that song, he stole it. He also played both of them, and aligned with Kenny.
Eddy's voice is so so so so unique i love him so much as child n his tears on Daddy Freeze interview really broke me. Pick up yourself Eddy n give it to them.
He needs to pick himself up and do a comeback, he's got swag and he is very good at what he does, Chai! He needs to be helped, maybe he should do a go fund me or something . Life!
@@twinny234I wish it were that easy to make a comeback. Music is a young man’s sport. Age wise he is pushing 50, what’s he gonna be singing about and to which demographic exactly? The highest point of most musical careers is when the artist connects with a coming of age audience ie young adults. That’s why this particular song resonates with early Millennials & those a little older. We were the ones “outside” at the time.
The first song of Nigeria hip-hop, these guys are the jay master jay, Rev Run and Run DMC of Nigeria hip hop. If any hip hop artists feeding off the new hops must give respect, it has to be to these guys either you are black face, 2 face, face, and the new guys that followed them. Respect.
Man I writing this with tears😭 in my eyes. This track, Sakomo, brings memories of my late friends, Seye and Wasiu. We were in SS2 at the time and were mad lovers of Naija Hip-hop way back. Seye told me he watched the Remedies performed Sakomo live on AIT Jamz and when the album finally dropped, Wasiu brought the tape to class.
Really? What year was that? Back in my days we depised Naija music. It was all American, we thought these guys were local, naija music wasn't appreciated until around 2004

My song in JSS1. This song came out in 1997 Eddy Montana has always been my favorite of the group. Most he said about Eedris are true. But they should mend fences now. About Burnaboy abusing Eedris, Abdulkareem is reaping what he sowed. He too was rude & aggressive back then. Burnaboy too go collect for future. 😅
Truly, Tony Tetuila wasn't lying in his interview with Daddy Freeze when he said, Eedris original stage name is Remedy and ended up using his name as the brand name of the group. In this song "Sakomo", Eddy Montana in his verse said, "my name is Eddy, Remedy and Tony." This track details the truth
Afrobeats as we know it today was solidified when “Body and soul” by plantashun bois dropped. That album made a lot of people believers. Gave more artist the confidence that they could do it too, and they did. Yes Remedies did their thing but that ‘body and soul album’ changed everything.. it started making us pay attention to our own. As a young kid then I still wasn’t feeling Eedris rapping but I felt what plantashun was doing. A lot of us were still listening to foreign acts but that was the beginning of the shift..
This is so true...I was in my late teens during this period, and I remember some people making fun of Eedris tapping...but when Body and Soul by Plantashun Boys dropped, it changed everything...the production, singing, everything was top notch, at least for that time.
Idris bring the Nigerianness into the song he rap in Hausa and the Yoruba part makes it more acceptable. All of them really set the template for what we have.
Is this is too sweet o. I also saw the copyright line & melody Asake used. Blackface really knows what he is talking about people stealing songs. We have to keep listening & keep learning everyday

Never, they never started the same time, not close.@@Prince_of_Winterfell
But remedies star5ed a year before them
This is not the first Nigerian hip-hop song. Very arguable. We had acts like Junior and Pretty before these guys.

Eddy's breakdown and Tetula's story brought me here. This song was and is still a hit.
Eedris and Eddy Remedies dey argue who get sakomo. None of them had said or given flowers to MC Lite. That was a nice sample they did here.🔥
The original sample does not belong to Mc Lyte. I think MJ or so
It's letter to my unborn child by 2pac instrumental
It's Michael Jackson's "Liberian Girl"
