1985.."Hocus Pocus" is on the radio.. I think I'm really on to something..I tell my dad about it. He laughs at me! He says-"This song is like "Jump"! ...you gotta dig on "Round Goes The Gossip" if you wanna really hear Focus!..another schooling from my father. Miss you Dad.
My dad got me hooked on a LOT of music that most people my age would never have heard of, stuff like Emerson Lake and Palmer, being an english family most of what we got was english. I first heard of focus *after you posted your comment* when i watched Robocop. Absolutely hooked. This track is immensely cool.

This is the first Focus I have ever heard. When I was a little shit my father gave me a cassette with this album recorded. This cassette still exists, but the sound is so wobbly because of constant listening. And that's how I started to listen to classic rock... By the way Jan Akkerman is one of my guitar heroes.
A mate gave me a loan of the album sometime in 92 saying I had to listen to this track as it was so terrible it was funny! I put it on and instantly loved it which kind of shocked him. They quickly became a favourite of mine and am still listening to their music in late 2019. Timeless and classic!
I appreciate their courage for making such kind of innovative and intellectual music while living in this kind of popularist, economy driven music industry.
That's so right (for those who were there & can remember all that). Thank you for the link to my old memory box. How exciting was all that true music back then?!
a famous piece straight out of the witty spirit of Thijs Van Leer that cleverly mixes cool and atmospheric funky rock rock with a touch of celestial flute Renaissance period !
Gladly, today I bought the whole double vinyl album in a second hand record-shop. Good condition for only 12 € . I'm listening to it now on my original 1970ies HIFI gear. That is: Dual 701 turntable, Marantz 2270 receiver, B&W dm-2a loudspeakers. In addition I purchased the "Hamburger Concerto". Very good music worth listening to.
Heiner, back in 1978 I bought the double vinyl album in a second hand record-shop, and both records were the same! I loved House of the King, but never got to listen to Sylvia until years later.

For some strange reason this does not make it on the "Houcus Pocus: Best Of" CD but i guess i have always had an issue with best of albums for this reason. My favourite Focus tune! Thanks for the post
This is one of the biggest but most underated tracks that may sum up the best of '70's "prog rock" movement. In my opinion, it never got better than this. But, of course, Focus does much better than this. Love 2uall.
What a great song! it's their version of Pop goes the weasel...i guess..???? tried to sing the last part of the song very hard if you don't have that vocal range...

Love the latin lyrics part, so enigmatic, but at the same time frightening as they remind me the time I’ve found out a great friend of mine she committed suicide
JAN AKKERMAN most under- appreciated guitarist ever!
Not by those in the know!
@@moi3557 Always been by favourite
Yes totally agree seen recently here and wayback 76 😊😊😊
Nog steeds een van de beste Focus-nummer die ik me nog kan herinneren van de jaren '70. Met dank aan Deep in Black voor de lyrics!
This is the pinnacle of Focus.

Absolute classic record and a stand-out from the 70's.
This is called modal music; the harmonic progression works in a particular way.
great comment for Great Music
"Modal" just means anything that isn't tonal but doesn't go out of its way to be annoying like atonality
Zappa goes Dutch!!
Awesome band, proud of the dutch.
Focus was very popular in Brazil, back then
@@alfredocamacho9973 And in Argentina too.

It's either, one has integrity or one has none of it; for most it's none.
one of the best titles in history....
Nice bit of Virgil in Latin from 1:30 ...
Está música no es para todos,es para gente con el fino gusto por el Rock progresivo
love it,I can hear the layers of instruments in a lot of their songs. Every layer is good enough
Amazing masterpiece from the summer of my years.

amazing!!!! Great Dutch band!! High quality music
Damn musicians, if I could ever see them play, I would feel fulfilled.
Just saw them this past June . They were on a US tour with Asia. It was incredible. I have some video shorts from the concert on my channel.

At the level of composition this is first-rate modal music. The idea of singing in Latin has now been taken by another Dutch band, Epica.
maybe because singin in duch was not so musical. latin is a perfect musical language
now that's sick drumming
Yeah I agree, really great control during his rolls
Sick, in what sense?
Pierre Van Der Linden is a master..& still with Focus today.
