Of all the cases you’ve covered, and all those I’ve listened to, this one made me cry 😞

In the early 1980's my parents won the first division prize of tattslotto in Victoria! As soon as the shock & delight of winning was over, my mum & dad gave me strict directions, not to tell a soul! (l was a 16 yr old only child), when l asked my parents why - l was told about this story and what happened to this poor family! It was never common knowledge in our small Victorian country town...and afterwards l was never allowed to catch the school bus to school again!
More than 20 years later this crime was still fresh in my parents minds!

The way he read the poem at the end…he did Graeme well. ❤

I was fifteen years old and living in Melbourne. It was the lead story on our news constantly. Many years later I cautioned a friend to not tell anyone when she won a large lottery prize, purely because of this crime. I believe our lotteries changed their policy about publishing the winners of lotteries due to this tragedy. Rest In Peace, Graeme Thorne.

Dude this story hits literally so close to home. When one of the suburbs were mentioned it sent shivers up my spine. It is literally a five minute walk from my house

This story really had me on the edge of my seat. Mr. Bradley made himself the most hated man in Austrailia.

Disgusting what some will do for money. Can’t understand how someone who has children himself could do such a thing.

I am very impressed with the narrator's voice. He speaks very well, very clear and no issues with falling asleep. Excellent, though terrible stories and well written and read.

Poor Grahme. Never heard of this kidnapping story before. Too bad the parents didn't think something was up and get more suspicious when the fake PI knew about their new phone # when it hadn't been listed or even in use at the time. It couldn't have been anything but heartbreaking for Grahame"s parents.

So sad, tragic and PREVENTABLE. I know the moment i heard Graham was missing that he had been taken "for ransom", when let's be honest, that's not what it was for. It was just to torture the family because they had won and some sick monsters were envious and jealous.
Should it not be common sense that people that win the lottery shouldn't have their damn addresses posted publicly? Not just their addresses, their whole identity should be kept public (unless they specify otherwise) to prevent these exact type of situations. 😠

Is there a way to listen without the commercials? They are very disturbing !!

    • @michaelbrown3274
      @michaelbrown3274 3 года назад +4

If you don't listen to the commercials, the podcast doesn't make money. There are algorithms that can tell if ads are skipped, and the podcast doesn't get paid. If you like podcasts, listen to the ads. They are free after all, so be thankful.

Hi Junior Johnson, if you play it through a Podcast app you only get the ad in the middle that is read by the host :)

Junior Johnson, go make a cuppa, have a stretch, have a emotional break....these stories are harrowing so I need a breather. Maybe you could do with one too :)

Yes. Pay RUclips (Google) $14 and there will be no ads, unless the RUclipsr does live ads. I actually don't mind those. $14 is well worth not having to listen to ads. I've been ad-free for about a year and my only regret is not having done it years ago. In this case, with this extraordinary channel, I actually don't think I would mind the ads. There is so much hard work and talent put into this channel.

I'd be curious to know more about Cheryl - she only features marginally in any source on this subject. Why was she institutionalised?

I was hoping against hope that Graeme would be spared. Terrible story, so sad. Just boggles my mind how stupid humans are, though. It's logical and common sense NOT to publish lottery winners' personal information!! Yet, this seems to have been done many years ago, and it took the murder of a little boy before common sense prevailed and such info was not published - unless the winner themselves blabbed it (The Daily Mail comes to mind, of silly people giving away their details after a huge win). If I ever won the lottery (a pipe dream, I know), I'd NEVER let on that I'd won. NEVER! 😀

In the US many states still publish the name of the winners.

    Awful!
I love every Casefile episode- this team does such a good job, but you're doing a good job telling awful stories.
Even in today's time, the lottery goes too far in publishing details of winners to the general public. "Take a picture with the giant cheque, we're going to publish your name." That they used to publicly share details of home addresses is terrible. It was only a matter of time before something horrible happened.
Saddest thing in the world. I'm sure his parents curse the day they won. You think your life is about to improve and then lose a child over what appeared to be a stroke of luck.
