Why you ask? Because we can and because one of you guys said it was possible. Please don't do it, it's not safe at all!
So will a .30-30 WIN work in a Mosin Nagant service rifle? Yes and no....it's nowhere near safe and could potentially cause harm to the shooter. Even if you wrap the cartridge like we did in the video, it's still not a guarantee that the case will not rupture.
You've been warned!
Thanks for watching...

I recently dug up a Mosin on the Eastern Front. The bolt spring still works and the bolt parts of course moves. Only the butt stock have rotted away:) It's a 1933 version from the "Serpimolot" factory:)
Regards from Russia
Get a new stock for it and fix it.
I certainly don't want to void the warranty on my Mosin Nagant!
just call up the Soviet Union real quick! they'll help you fix your Mosin xD
What warranty? Your supposed to get a new one each time you go shooting and throw the old one away.
@@moefitzgerald4439 I tried calling, but their phone's been disconnected. Very odd...
@@cloroxlavenderscent4307 "When the man with the rifle is killed, the second man picks up the rifle and shoots."
John Doe lol
"This is just not a good idea. Let's go ahead and do one more." Gotta love it! :)
I was thinking the same😂👌🏻
Well remember, "they"do it so "we" don't have too...
I feel they missed something. The first wrapped one worked decently. Then the double wrapped cartridge split. Maybe the wrapping must be thin enough to expand. I’m just saying in a pinch you have a mosin some tape and .30-30 it could work... still finding a .30-30 rifle or 7.62x54R ammo would be much easier and more effective.
I was a range master at my gun club for thirty-five years. The most common ruptured cases that I used to find laying around were Savage .303''s fired out of .303 British chambered rifles. Some people are really dumb.
Back in the 80's I was shooting with some friends at a shooting range and a coupke guys at another table were having all sorts of issues with a Lee Enfield. Turns out they were using Savage .303 ammo instead of .303 British.
Knew of a jazbo that shot .300 Win mag in his Weatherby all the time.
I recall my WW2 veteran father saying he was taught that in a dire situation it was OK to shoot .30-06 out of a 7.7 Japanese Arisaka.
When I was in the army 40+ years ago, for some reason, mostly southern guys, thought there was some combination of AK /AR, 7.62x39 / 5.56x45 that was interchangeable.
RIP Barry
crazydoom3dude Barry died
is that a question or a statement?
RIP barry means that barry died.....
and yes....he died 3 years ago, where have you been?
I didn't know that he died I only watched him on RUclips I didn't follow them on social media
Excuse denied. A video was made: Gun Gripes Episode 85: A Final Farewell.
get an empty case of the mosin nagant 7.62 and cut it at the rim and at the shoulder and you will end up with a nice brass tube that you can use as a sleeve for the 30-30. it will work better than the electrical tape and it will sit in the magazine nicely
There are chamber adapters that allow .32 acp in mosins. I have the .303 version to fire .32 acp in my Enfield, but have never been brave enough to use it.
Another thing you could do would build an adapter out of steel that has a proper rim.
FCB43ver that’s genius
@@johngraesser4911 I've used an adapter. Fired ok. Terrible accuracy.
Wait Barry used to keep a bayonet on him? Absolutely Rad Man right there.
I still miss Barry. Interesting video. I would never consider not matching caliber ammo to the gun, but it was still an interesting experiment.
SHTF, life on the line, only 30-30 and tape, I would
Not more accurate but it makes the rifle hit to point of aim. The guns were sighted with the bayonets attached
Miss seeing Barry on these videos. That guy had a lifetime of knowledge. I'm glad he was able to pas some things on with RUclips.
I see the problem you didn't use ductape, ductape fixes everything
I wish Barry was still around, miss seeing him in your videos.
4:07-4:11 "...This is just not a good idea. Let's go ahead and do one more..."
Excellent lol
RIP Barry. 😓
I miss when they did "regular guy" stuff on the channel
I like to come back and watch Barry what a great and informative teacher
ill bet that it would work better with duct tape and not electrical tape (electrical responds worse to stretching (which is how you sever it from the roll while duct tape responds better to ripping which i dont think is as likely the way the casing is rupturing)
I was looking through your old videos and had to watch this again! I miss Barry! I know you guys miss him also! Thanks Barry RIP!
The old man in the video is so pro, that he doesn't carry a gun; he carry a KNIFE!
+Sir Dude rip Barry
Barry was SOOOOOO much better & likeable that chad.
+Trayvon Water Melon King of Africa WHO CARES????
Who is?
@Salpeteroxid who cares it is not importend inthis video
I love it, these guys were always pushing the limits, in the safest manner possible. I remember taking my Hunter safety education classes; one of the first things they teach you that is firearms related is matching your ammunition caliber to your firearm, and how easy it can be to (sometimes) have ammunition mix ups. RIP Barry. I never knew what demons you battled in your own life and mind; nor is it any of my business. But I'm glad you're in a better place now resting easy.
Should have tried a .30/40 Krag or 303 British round for closer fit.
Or better yet, firing a .30-30 from a Krag-Jorgenson or a Lee-Enfield
@@greything9169 The "98 Springfield only had one locking lug (plus the bolt handle). I never did feel safe behind it's bolt.
I have a Glock 22 that I have a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel for. Mistakenly, I shot a 9mm from the Normal .40 S&W barrel.
Of course, it shot the projectíle, but it REALLY stretched and messed up the 9mm casing!
After shooting for over 55 years, this is the FIRST (and LAST) time that I will EVER mess up on chambering something that does not go into the CORRECT chamber!
I am kind of concerned that I MIGHT get a 9mm Luger confused with a 9mm Makarov round, so I will TRIPLE check whenever I have ANY 9mm Mak rounds around my shooting area and make SURE they are the correct rounds!
Thanks for these videos!!!!! They are VERY informative and show us what CAN happen!
hickok45 had a video with a makarov and he tried to put a makarov bullet (9x18) in a block barrel and it didn't fit.
glock not block.
ps. keep an eye out fir the"1917? AMERICAN enfeild", it was a 303. Enfield, they 're chambered for.30_06, for a few of the first GI'regiments that came over, an they had plenty of 30_06, but almost half the Springfields were lost an went down with a u.s freighter. and, towards ends, the British 303's were gettin shot out, headspace problems, an low on there" spaghetti" powder 303.s, but. a usmc' country boy, loved there Springfields, but the Enfield action was just even better, but the 30_06 was just a ill bit more takedown power. so he went to a officer an said, the be its guns are shot out, low on ammo, but can get more rounds out smoother with that design of the. Enfield action, an by that time, there Springfields were just a ill beat as well...
so, they got a hold of a britt.. an said, hey!, let's try this. so it started to rain, no one was moving.a couple Brittany, an hi' machinists, grabbed some Springfields an Enfield an headed to the machine shop. an the 30_06"American.Enfield was born"!.. but as rare as a mannlicher with A. SS' Mark, an Beretta scope, they were rare.. an by time they started to build 30_06 Enfields, WW1 ended. there around, I've Seen 2... but there not cheap because of there unicorn like mysterious finds, guys have found them, and sportorized! them, or let them disappear.. last I see was sportorized stock, still around 2k$...
I'm tryin to get this 37'? suomi, but it's unlike others I've seen. someone braized different sights on it an grooved out a" cheek notch" or maybe to shoot it tucked under one arm?.. irk but it got over here 40's_50's I'd say, because owner of the cabin we found these guns at, said the gi's were taking cars, an whole truck loads of w.e up here in woods of p.a an bidding them an 're sold stuff. wen wars were over.. the state an Fed's Shasta come in wen home owner found thousands 30_06_45, col 1911's, an, lugers, some other German bayonets, SS insignia, but said they... had to take it, be cause it was Fed busted an owned property until recently. if only the homeowners knew... but we found the rest, even a call French or brittle, captains pistols,? those odd, pin fire ones? ... along with the suomi, 7x57 Spanish, 6.5 mannlicher, an the 1903_, my father was ecstatic about. just need a mossin, an ariska an 10 more ww2 bolt&glass action rifles to restore an shoot now!
p.s, m1'garrand" tanker's_garrand? I've seen them, but ppl say they never made a" tanker'garrand", thou some say they did make a short m1 30_06,,short like the 30.carbine, in early years before 30.carbine, but the short m1'garrand, had problems jamming,or something because the barrel was shorter, an couldn't make snuff gasses to operate the same 140?grain g.I 30_06 ammo, so they didn't make many, because they had to match load the ammo for the shorter barrel garrand?.., I haven't found hardly any I.do bout the" tanker-garrands. . but keep up awesome videos, specs, history, tests,, p.s were can I find some good surplus Russian, Finnish,Italian, an Japanese surplus? thanks..!! sorry for long posts'
"MOAAN AABE"
+Justin Herdman WTF? THe P14 wasmade under contract from the brits. The US was short of 1903s, and when the brits cancelled the contract for P14s the US decided to continue manufacture in .30 Govt and dubbed it the M1917. There were more of those shipped over and used than the M1903. Your story is silly beyond belief, and the rest of it made my eyes hurt.
well you better go read some of the post ww1 books about britts and americans, and canadian munnitions and rifles used... Im simply stating, the made a hybrid, and it was a great gun... because then enfeild action, based off of and action, other then a mauser, unlike the 1903... the 1903, springfeild was a mauser based action.. you ever take them apart next to each other? all i was aying was it was great idea and design.. And IT WAS seen in action, used when britian was running low of resources, and we wernt fully involved yet, only shipping over supplies at first...... go read springfeild and enfeild history for those specific rifles... from a book.... NOT THE INTERNET...And i was also stating that, the 303's were know for head spacing problems/... do you know what tht means????? thus is why when they did rechamber it, they almos stuck with a 30 cal-06 round.... but they said screw it, and the britts didnt like the idea of using the same ammo.. NATO" WASNT AROUND YET... i gues im just someone who makes up stuff... like SS german lightning bolts on a italian 6mm carcanno.. yea.... rite.. oh an a scope on it saying made in germany "bosch"...1941"... yeaaapp.. im just making that up. yet i found it in the floorboards wrapped in tar like cosmoline, and dust coated in old jersey farm house.along with 3 other carcano's and spanish mausers...but not gewher 43's or tanker garrands...
+Justin Herdman American firms like Remington, Eddystone-Remington, and Winchester all made the P-1917 Enfield chambered .30-06. They had been making the P-14 Enfield for the Brits since 1914 and when the US entered they were very low on Springfields and %75 of the American Expedtionary Force used the P-1917 enfield some units attached to the BEF even using Lee Enfields due to logistics.
That said it's extremely hard to rework a .303 P-14 into .30-06. Mostly because the .303 is a rimmed round and the .30-06 is rimless. You need to rechamber the barrel, modify the magazine, and design an entirely new bolt head and extractor. Not something some "country boys" can do in one rainy night in a machine shop.
That said there were plenty of M1917 Enfield rifles used by US Forces as said above. Many were held onto after WWI some soldiers still being issued them in WWII. We also gave the UK a lot threw lend lease early on that they issued them to the Home Guard. Like many rifles in the 1950s to 1960s they were sold as surplus and many people didn't have a need for a military style rifle and sportorized them into hunting type rifles.
As for a $2000 stock for a 1917 no one would buy that even if it was inspected by Elmer Kieth at the Ogden arsenal. I won't get started about the carcano with SS bolts.
Justin Herdman
Your story is full of holes you're full of shit
Eric,
I once fired not one but TWO 30-30 WIN from my No 4. Mk 1 .303. The 30-30 got mixed in somehow with my .303 reloads that I kept in the blue boxes. I had the rifle sitting on the rest, and I was loading the rounds one by one from the blue box. When I chambered the first 30-30 (unknowingly) I noticed the bolt was hard to close and lock. But it did with a little more effort. At the time I just thought my old girl was getting dirty because I had already fired about 20 rounds through it. The 30-30's chambered, fired, (accurately too I might add) and ejected from my Enfield. I noticed my mistake after the 2nd 30-30 round. The cases fire formed a little but DID NOT rupture. A huge Lesson learded that day.
what's the verdict Barry? "Its busted all to hell" kmsl
"This is not safe! This is not a good idea! Let's go ahead and do one more." I love you guys
This is why I would never buy a second hand firearm.
It's nice to find these old videos with Barry that I haven't seen yet. I miss the ol' guy.
4:06 This is not a good idea. Well we'll fire one more for you
XD
The Russian Bullet is a larger diameter while the 30-30 case has a much smaller diameter. The Russian round is also pretty much in the same class as the 7.62 x 51. To put it another way the 30-30 at the barrel has about the same power as the larger round at a 100 yards or so.
The 30-30 is one of the first smokeless powder rounds. It was designed for hunting large game using iron sights and it does a great job. If your gun will take a scope there's good reasons for using one. You can ignore drop out to at least 100 yards but it isn't at its best at 300 yards which is fine with me. Most people don't have any business shooting at anything at 300 yards.
Mosin nagant come with warranty?, haha good one
It works fine. I have my Dads Remington 550-1 and its stamped on the bbl, .22 short, long and long rifle. That model of Remington is one of the very few semi-automatic rifles that was made to shoot all three, to this day. Highly accurate rifle too. But you can safely shoot all three out of any .22 Long Rifle as long as you can get them fed in to the chamber.
As far as ammo Mix-Ups go I went out to the desert with some friends and we were shooting his brand-new Jimenez 9x19 (not a great gun but it's local to us here in Las Vegas) and my Glock model 22 gen 4. somehow when we were out shooting somebody ended up loading 10 rounds of 9mm in my glock magazine (.40 S&W) and the gun fired about four shots and stove piped on the 4th they said something might be wrong with my gun so I want to take a look at it and noticed that they were 9mm bullets in it. The gun operated quite well considering the bullets were completely the wrong size and the accuracy surprisingly wasn't bad. From what I've read online the Glock ejector holds most bullets in place allowing the firing pin to hit the primer dead center allowing the weapon to fire surprisingly large array of cartridges. I've even seen someone put a .223 round with a duct tape ring (because the ejector was holding the round cocktail eyed because of the length) in a Glock 23 looked like gen 3 (also .40 S&W) which went off leaving some in-burnt powder and an extreme case bulge of course the case split at the end and completely removed the neck of the cartridge. To make it work not only did he have to put a duct tape ring around the base of the cartridge to keep it centered but he also had to put the cartridge in the barrel before he assembled the gun and then as he assembled it he had to hook the rim around the extractor before complete assembly. The cartridge went off at an extremely low speed although he didn't test the speed but you could tell because it went through a water jug near the muzzle and usually a .223 would rip that fucking jug apart but instead of just put a neat little hole through both sides. The important part is that it functioned although I wouldn't hold it in my hand while it did and it seemed to not damage the weapon in any way he just had to put a rod through the muzzle to pull the bulged case out. It was extremely dangerous but it didn't damage of the weapon and I'm sure you can find the video on RUclips I think it was from DemolitionRanch.
Emilio Valero pictures or a video or it never happened. this isnt the kind of misinformation you should be spreading around
he's right, DR did this.
+newcorpse ontheblock I've done it accidentally before. It works. If I'm in a bad situation I do it in a heart beat! Try it. I can't see it mess up a gun. If it did that's one shitty ass gun. Bulged brass is all that happens.
Not even duct tape would improve things over the electrical tape. High powered rifles operate in the 10,000 to 80,000 PSI range. Now way to wrap enough tape around the cartridge to contain the pressure and still be able to chambered it.
Try .308 in the nagant?
+Alex Lapaille havent not sure if it would chamber or not
+Alex Lapaille The .308 isn't a rimmed cartridge. The .303 British, 30-30 Winchester, and the 7.62X54R are. Not sure if there's any other .30 cal rimmed cartridges. That's why people wonder about what the results could be when those are shot out of a Mosin.
+Master Vader 30-40 Krag
+sman7290 I did that with my Glock 40 with 9mm round. It was mixed in with my 40 cal ammo. Didn't hurt the gun one bit. I do it again if I ran out of 40 cal ammo in a life threatening situation.
+sman7290 303 Brit works really good and it got a rim for the 54r rifle to extract too. I shoot that with no worries at all. Same bullet as 54r too.
Nice to see some sponsors showing up to support. Iv been needing some more steel plates!
maybe machine a sleeve to make it work, like the 12 ga to 9 mm sleeves
RIP Barry. He forgot more than I will ever know. I wish he was still with us.
It's The End from Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater!!
God! I haven't played that game in many yrs. spent many of hrs playing that game. Fun game.
Great video guys. I had a neighbor one time who had a pistol chambered in 357 sig, he was shooting 9mm through it and wondered why he could not hit a darn thing. I looked at his gun and told him he was shooting the wrong ammo. He had no clue what he was doing. He showed me some spent rounds and they were swelled up. I guess he didnt think that was wrong cause he shot 500 rounds through it. He did not know that the bore diameter was stamped on it. People just dont pay attention.
Missing you Barry.
You guys probably saved someones vision or life by doing this test.
You can tell people things and they will not believe but showing them will convince them.
Thanks for the videos.
what about a 303 enfield in a mosin nagant?
David Smith tried that.
+David Smith seen a 30-30 fired in a 303. It fired but burst the case, almost no case neck left.
+David Smith tried it, wont chamber with out force so i int pull the trigger
ok, so by wrapping the cartridge you are making a better seal in the chamber and since the metal does not have a way to expand now that is why it does not rip on the sides and it also can burst on the sides or thru the primer cap. Great idea to show the danger of not using the correct ammunition on a firearm.
Good work guys on the myth busting...!
PUT A 308 WINCHESTER IN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GioGuitarDude I have actually fired .308 out of my M44 with no problems. Had a terrible time getting the extractor to catch but no casing splits!
Crazyman Motovlogs yeah I have put a 308 into my m44 too just to see if it fits and it's perfect except for the rim like you said. The bullet diameter is .002" smaller so there wouldn't be any pressure issues.
The Lost Arts Series is by far my favourite. Please keep them coming!
Can you shoot 30-6 rounds in a mosin
Bannerman (old surplus company) did a bunch of 30-06 conversions off of Remington and Westinghouse M91 rifles (the US manufactured about 3mil Mosin Nagants in WWI). But the cartridge is too long to chamber in a standard mosin.
will kenny I can't seem to find information on it but do you know if there were banner conversion that did not rechamber the rifles. I believe I have one of these. The bolt was bent, the receiver, and it has the marking for it. However it's not marked 30-06 like the other I've seen.
kade billyarx I honestly couldn't tell you. There are many M91 collector forums that probably know, though.
no
As to what will Kenny said, I believe Forgotten weapon’s has done a video on the Bannermans
it may be actually interesting, but in ww1 and russian civil war, english .303 was allowed to be fired from the mosin in case there was no alternative. .303 bullet is largely identical (while this 30-30 is actually 0.1 mm smaller in diameter), but the case of .303 is noticeably narrower and its neck is longer (shoulders are 3mm closer to the rim). Yet it was safe to fire, fired reliably, althoug the case deformed severely often causing extraction problems. Additionally, the cartridge did not always fed from the magazine reliably. Later they even developed a field used press that reshaped .303 cases (with bullets and powder!) to match 7.62*54R profile closer.
If it's all I had I would load that shit up and use it to get me a new gun...
I did this about a year ago one fire formed one blew open like yours the one that ruptured on me bent my extractor. Love your videos keep them coming.
Coolest dudes on the internet
Not that I ever shoot guns using incorrect ammo, I do paper wrap firearms to see how much gas escapes when I try out a new/old gun.
After making up some rounds for my Dutch Beaumont, I test fired it with paper wrapped around the receiver and was truly amazed at how tight the old girl was. The paper didn't even flinch. But when I tried a paper wrap on my tied down Swiss 1889 and the paper was shredded with my first reloads. Quite an eye opener.
Whenever I try out a new revolver, I like to hold a target around the revolver to see how much gas escapes the cylinder gap. Doing this also leaves quite the impression on new revolver shooters.
What about a 7.62 NATO round?
it isn't rimmed wont work
the 30-30 wasnt made for the mosin, and it worked :o so dont be a douche
Jason Bonedi
Rimmed man, Rimmed, thats a major factor
Jason Bonedi You can say Im a "douche" all you want it wont work 7.62 NATO IS NOT rimmed. Just because someone else knows what they are talking about doesn't make them a douche grow up kid. not like I called you a dumb ass which I easily could have.
Mike h
Mike h actually 7.62x54r is rimmed
I was reading an interesting tidbit of Vietnam War history in a book about improvised weapons. The VC in some areas would have a solid supply of Russian TT-33's but dried up ammo supplies. They would pull the projectile from a 9mm round and trim the case back a ways, and then take a .32 ACP round and saw off the front of the casing with the bullet still inside. They would then solder the two pieces together to make an improvised necked-down cartridge for the 7.62x25mm, and it worked.
10mm and 40S&W
40 works in 10mm but 10mm won’t work in a 40. That’s right a 10mm will fire both. Hmm Interesting.
It's good to know and Safety First. Very interesting and informative Eric and Barry make a good team and y'all probably saves somebody's eye! Thanks and we miss Barry!
MISS YOU BARRY. R.I.P.
The way you said izhevsk really activated my almonds
Can you make a video about how 5.56X45 and 223 are the exact same
Except they're not. 5.56x45 runs at a higher pressure than .223. That's why if you look at the owners manual of most .223 bolt-actions, it will say in big red letters "DO NOT FIRE 5.56x45 NATO IN THIS FIREARM"
If I remember correctly the only differences are the name and casing think as well as the way they measure the pressure
+thor 90 so why are you asking them to make a video about how they're the EXACT same when you know they're not?
+Nate Roberts It's not just higher pressure, the (as it's called) leed in at the chamber throat is longer on the 5.56, it fascilitates being able to use bullets with a further forward ogive (primarily the nato full metal jacket and penetrator rounds), it's when you combine those differences in the 223 chamber that pressures really rise.
***** they work the same
I saw a snail crawling on the edge of a straight razor. That's my dream, that's my nightmare. Then I woke up and watched some more of these great videos on here!
.303 Brit in a mosin?
has to be resized
It's been done many times before and plenty of videos on RUclips doing it. Bullets are the same exact size and rimmed too.
I new a guy that had two beautiful Winchester 70's. I forget exactly what they were chambered in, but I think one was a .270, one was .300 Winmag. He put the winmag cartridge in the .270 and it blew up in his face. Cut his face open, and nearly lost an eye.
I’m from Australia and I had one of these old army rifles about 20 years ago .Was a good old gun for pigs in bushy areas .
I'm a lefty and where I went to learn how to safely handle and fire handguns, I was assigned a different gun that had ambidextrous mag releases and safeties (it was some sig, maybe a P226). Everyone else was using Glocks that were chambered in 9mm so no one thought to check the caliber of the Sig that I was using. When I got to the range, I put some rounds in and the first time I pulled the trigger: *click* second: *bang* the third and fourth, click click. It was chambered in .357 Sig. Scary.
4:00 "I can say with certainty that this is just not a good idea... Lets go ahead and do one more." lol
I have not done this myself but I did find a 30-40 case at the range that was shot from a 303 Brit based on the other brass that was there.
I've fired .30-30 Winchester in my .303 Enfield once. The case bulged almost all the way to the mouth... but didn't split.
One time I put a full eight round clip of 308 Win in my M-1, I fired four rounds before I had a Smokestack jam. The 308 Win cases looked like a rimless 45-70 and the chamber of the M-1 needed a good cleaning. Otherwise there was no harm to the M-1.
Don't do that!!!
I once fired about 20 .38 super +P's through a 6 inch full lug Ruger GP 100 .357 magnum revolver. There was a noticeable kick between the .38 super +P's and .357 magnum. All the brass ejected fine.
I LOVE the "Lost Arts" videos! Super fascinating. Thanks guys!
hmm, out of curiosity from looking at the size difference of the 2 shells... lets say you have a hacksaw or a tubing cutter... you just finished using all of the mosin ammo you had and were left with the .30-30 win... if you were to cut the bottom of the mosin casing off and the neck it looks as though the .30-30 could possibly be slipped inside of the mosin casing. if it does and has a fairly snug fit you could "outfit" the .30-30 casings with mosin jackets which would also help keep the spacing for the magazine as well and would prevent the cases from splitting. time consuming... VERY, if it works it'd be safe(r) to shoulder fire as well as keep a magazine full and you could make use of 2 types of ammo... i'd love to see someone try and test the spacing on the cases to find out if it could be done.
Well there's a few things that could cause that. First, make sure your chamber is clean and there's no residual cosmoline. If you say that feeding the weapon is inconsistent, it's probably because your interrupter spring is weak and rounds are double feeding when the rims overlap wrong. If you disassemble the weapon you'll see a mechanism to the left of the trigger with a small flat spring. Take that apart, clean it, and bend the spring so it has more tension. That should stop the rimlock.
You guys do the coolest tests.
I fired a 7mm-08 out of a .30-06 auto once. I felt and heard the recoil of the action over the discharge. Case expanded to a "no-neck" brass
Nice, informative and fun videos to watch. Thanks for doing it for us guys!
R.I.P. Barry , without you i would never have known about cut shells or wax loads :) You will be missed !!!!
Loving the recent video variety
The .308 will fit, fire and crack halfway around, and behind the shoulder, but not that badly. The shoulder stops the cartridge about 2 to 4 mm.s back of the chamber bevel, and cause the primer to be placed right in relation to the striker pin, but it will kill an enemy.
At a gun show I bought a big bag of .44-40 brass. When I got home I reloaded them and I noticed that every now and then one would be a bit harder to go into my resizing die but I just figured I didn't put enough lube on the brass. after I got them all loaded I went to a SASS shoot and in the middle of the stage the dang rifle (.44-40 1860 Navy Arms Henry) jammed on me. I got the bullet out and looked it over and it looked OK, and then I looked at the bottom. .44 Remington Magnum. I went through my shells and found 5 of the magnum brass so now I have 5 .44 magnum rounds that I need to figure out what to do with.
Good question. My guess would be that it would shoot but not be safe because they headspace on the case mouth.
my brother in law and me were hunting last year when he grabed a few of my 25-06 rounds and stuck them in his brand new remington 700 30-06 by mistake. he seen the 14 point i been chasing since bow season. i ended up taking him to the er and went back and shot the buck the next morning.
hey Eric I got my first mosin 91/30 a couple months back and use cheap Russian surplus ammo and every time I go shooting it splits a couple of cases right at the neck, should I be worried or is this common with cheap surplus?
I know this is an extremely old video, but would the 30-30 Win. Fit inside an old 7.62 54r casing with the ends removed?
I have seen 7,62 NATO fired in a 30-06 M1 Garrand. At an NRA Highpower Service Rifle match, a National Guardsman checked out the wrong combination from the armory. There was no damage to the rifle. It sounded noticeably different, and the cartridge case swelled out to the larger dimensions. The match was ended for the young fellow, but he was unharmed.
If you made a sleeve by cutting the throat and head off a 7.62x54r case, would a 30-30 cartridge fit into it snugly enough to fire without rupturing?
I remember reading a book on the Vietnam War a long time ago, and it was mentioned captured 7.62x51 ammo being wrapped in tape and being fired in the M-N by the VC.
.
I see others have mentioned 308 in this gun.
What if you shoot 243 through a 308?
I wonder what 9mmx18 for a makarov would do in a Berretta 92 fs and what 9mm luger would do in a macarov... Can you guys test that?
MLPFiM Tobi it more than likely won’t chamber because the 9x18 is actually a 9.2mm bore
Did that in a Destroyer carbine (German). The firing pin won't reach the cap on the shorter cartridge.
I had no idea this can even be done! Now you said it's dangerous to do this, I am going to try it.
You can safely fire .308/7.62 Nato in a 7.65X57 mauser. The formed case will come out with a short neck. The fire forming also effective reduces the pressure by 15-20%. The cases are reloadable but reduce loads for 7.65X57 mauser by 10% because the short neck means less effective case capacity. Shoot those old Mausers!
Yes those all do seem similar, but in a shit hits the fan situation those might be as hard to find as the 6.5 x 55 round. How widely avaliable are those rounds?
I had a mix up once with 30-30 in a Enfield. It surprisingly worked well enough. Deformed the case to hell, but it didn’t rupture
that sound of the rifle at the end :3 so awesome
Damn it all, Eric, we talked about this. "Izhevsk" is not pronounced "Eye-she-vek", it's pronounced "I-shefsk" (the 'I' is short, like in "bit", and the e is like in "met"). According to Wikipedia, 629,455 people live there, and they have an arms plant as their primary industry. Best not to piss them off :P
Have u thought to try 30-06 or 308 thru the mosins before? or are the cals. to big for the headspace in the rifle?
.40 S&W in a 10mm chamber will be head spacing on the extractor rather than the case mouth, which is not a good thing; it can hammer your breech face and cause other problems. It won't be as accurate either because of the variation in chamber dimension before the projectile engages the rifling from shot to shot. Rimmed cases don't have this problem. Oh, and if your extractor has other than very tight tolerances, you could get misfires from the excess space between case head and breech face.....
i put a mag of 9mm in a 357sig by not paying attention, fired 3 rds functioned great, even had a real good group, most of the case swelled to fill the chamber, the extractor was holding the case to the face.rws ammo, have one of the cases on my gun bench for a reminder to pay attention!
You can fire 38 special in a 357 revolver. The 38 case is shorter but the bullet is the same diameter. 357 is actually .380 inch. I do it all the time to practice with my revolver. Its the reason i bought a 357 revolver.
Is there a video or can you do one showing if the mosin can fire a 7.62x39 and what itll do to the casing? I had someone argue that you could shoot an ak round thru the mosin but they were so hard headed that no katter how i explained it they did not get it.
I have a Marlin 4570 and I shoot 410 shotgun shell through it in California quail season and deer season I'm An Imperial Valley same time just remember what's in the chamber when you see the deer or the quail makes a mess of things when you shoot through the coil with a 4570 I've been doing this for 42 years no problems same gun thank you
