  • Video of a passenger being dragged off a United Airlines' plane screaming and bleeding, is costing the airline dearly. United's shares are down about four percent - slashing about a billion dollars off its market value. A billion dollars wiped out for the sake of a few seats on a plane from Chicago to Kentucky. Joining us to talk about this story from New York is Sean O'Neill, he's from the global travel industry intelligence website Skift. And from Paris our editor at large, Craig Copetas. Also Andre Pierre du Plessis joins us for a look at some of the more creative reactions on social media.

3-4% drop in shares isn't nearly enough. This airline should be boycotted to the point of no return. Let them go out of business. Let other companies with more ethics take up the slack.

Other airlines will need them. Boycotting them is the only way to stop this behavior. Also, UA might wise-up if they see that their profit margin is collapsing because of it and change their tactics.

@@p_d_a_trfs6585Liberal modernists and feminists will feign outrage, but their moral system is what creates this situation.
Liberal principles of individual choice, female empowerment, and destruction of patriarchy create a society of people who have no family to take care of them in their old age.
The liberal feminist solution to this problem is to create more welfare programs. What this means is that they want the elderly to live alone in what are essentially pods, their only human interaction being with "care" takers to check if they're still alive once a week.
Let me put it like this. The only human solution is for the elderly to be surrounded by loving family in their old age. The only way to get that is patriarchy, gender roles, and other limitations on individual freedom. But the liberal mind cannot allow any of that. So the elderly will continue to suffer and liberal feminists and modernists will continue to pretend like they care about humanity.

      COMPARE THESE TWO ARGUMENTS
"Islam endorses war (jihad) to impose its law (Sharia) across the world. Therefore Islam approves killing people across the world. Muslims are dangerous - your Muslim neighbor literally wants to knife your little daughter and then blow up the local McDonalds."
_"Liberalism endorses war (e.g., colonialism, humanitarian intervention, military occupation) to impose its law (international human rights law) across the world. Therefore liberalism approves killing people across the world. Liberals are dangerous - your liberal neighbor literally wants to knife your little daughter and then blow up the local mosque."_
Why do so many idiots find the first argument logical and compelling, while they find the second argument illogical and absurd? Aren't both arguments illogical and absurd?
*Do you want to know why the US is broke and subject to an increasingly totalitarian surveillance regime?*
It is because the American people allowed themselves to be duped by absurd arguments into endorsing the "Global War on Terrorism" - spending 8 trillion dollars and agreeing to give the government unlimited surveillance/policing powers in the name of "fighting terrorism/extremism" as characterized by the first argument above..

I recall a time that when a plane was “overbooked,” and the airline had have to “remove” someone, they offered money and raised it until someone voluntarily left. That seemed to work quite well. Why they randomly selected this one guy, who seemed to really need to get to his destination, seems ill advised.

It took United Airlines to (1) attempt to bribe passengers to get off the plane, (2) argue with Dr Dao (3) Call the security officers (remember they are NOT the Chicago Police Department) (4) Security Officers to abuse Dr Dao and drag him off the plane (5) unload the paying passengers to clean the blood off the seats, (5) then recheck in the passengers with the 4 United Airlines staff, (6) finally get ground clearance and fly...almost 6 hrs has past. It would have taken less amount to time for the 4 staff members to drive 3 hrs to Louisville.🤔

Imagine you are in a flight, about to depart for whatever place, needed urgently at the office of whatever. Suddenly, a flight attendant announced in the PA that they overbooked the flight and they asked for 4 volunteers to leave the plane. You did not want to but got chosen from the computer. You declined the offer since you were needed the next day. However, the plane’s security was called and they violently forced you out of your seat, causing 2 of your teeth to fall out, your mouth to bleed, your nose injured and suffer a concussion. I know this comment is four years after this incident, but I have come to realize that the Chicago Dept of Aviation Police Department and United are BOTH EQUALLY to blame for their poor conducts. United Airline flight attendants, due to various Federal laws, generally have the upper hand in all disputes in the name of "safety" which is a poor excuse for lack of tact and professional customer service skills. The Police, for different but in the same class of reasons, generally have the upper hand in all disputes like FAs.
Both classes of people are given wide latitude to do their jobs, but those in this instance chose their course of actions poorly. And they wonder why the public don't trust either FAs and police officers to do the right thing!

There is a very difficult attitude at all levels in American travel hubs. The security staff treat every traveller as if they are criminals. I have been yelled at, screamed at, and generally bullied because I was unaware of some rule or policy, or I did not see some sign or direction that was expected of me. It happens that I am a very 'Senior Citizen' but do not generally look my age, and the staff, I suppose, think I am being deliberately obstinate. Also, I have vision problems. Maybe I should invest in a 'white cane' for American Airport use in order to evoke sympathy on the part of attendant staff.

The extra crazy thing about this that when a company does this ( deliberately? ) The stock price crashes, then someone within The airline or ( outside ) buys up all this cheap stock, then a year later, all that stock has recovered, & they’re a major stockholder ( ? ) !

I do not believe that a computer randomly selected anyone. I've heard that they have already ranked the people to bump before you arrive at the gate. If you are a frequent flier, traveling with someone else, or traveling with children you are unlikely to get bumped. But if you are traveling alone and don't travel a lot with that airline, then you are likely to get bumped. And I do not believe that United offers you actual money to give up your seat but a voucher which if you don't use that airline a lot is useless.

Well, They should treat their customers equally if this is caused due to Asian-white conflict as this is the most simple and basic rule of business that companies must treat their customers with proper ethics.
and second, according to the airline management , if the flight was overbooked and there's a passenger on the flight who caused it so this is not the way of dealing with the situation. They should reconsider this if they want to manage their stock crises..

OK I buy a ticket on the plane. I confirm my booking the day before. I get up out of bed at 1am. Get a bite to eat. Drive 3 hours to a parking area. Park the car. Get a bus to the airport. Spend 3 hours going through security and customs. Board a plane for a 10 am flight. Expecting to arrive in the US 16 hours later. THEN they say "I want your seat". Where do I go now? What do I do? I am stranded at the airport. Ongoing flights in the US are now forfeit. And why? Because they chose to sell more seats than we had available. Notwithstanding their "conditions of carriage" that would breach our trade practices law. They sold something they didn't have available to sell. Qantas is in deep trouble for doing this knowingly. Selling seats on flights that had been cancelled.

Playing background music during the passenger extrication video is a bizarre editing choice on the part of your show programmers. It makes you appear tone-deaf to this elderly man’s suffering. The original clip is already very difficult to watch, I find it disturbing that you found a way to make it even more difficult to watch. What’s next-a laugh track?
