I can’t believe this was 25 years ago now! 😮 This is probably the best series of Knightmare; two winning teams and a great finale. It’s a great shame the next series would be the last. 😢 It could have ran much longer. Bring back Knightmare! 1993 wasn’t the best year for CITV, but there were still lots of other great shows that year. I still prefer the original in-vision continuity era (January 1983 - February 1993). Watching this makes me feel a bit sad because 1994 would be a very bad year for me personally. I wish I could go back to the golden era of CITV.
It was also a real shame in '94 when they axed "Knightmare", as it was one of my favourite CITV shows back then! "Fun House" was always fun to watch too & "The Dreamstone" was good, but I don't remember much about "Just Us" or "Terror Towers"! Oh well...
I can personally remember at the time they first went out of vision, Take Two on CBBC had a bit where they had kids who said they didn't like the new out of vision style. Most people I knew didn't like it earlier, preumably that's why they ended up bringing presenters back (in fact, it's worth pointing out that it was Steve Ryde himself that made that decision!). It's just a shame ITV stopped bothering with CITV had their budget cut to the point that they went out of vision again.
If you read the video info above, I do mention that it's in poor quality in some places, which is a shame, but it is watchable & I've seen worser videos on here! It's an old VHS tape from 1993 & isn't going to be superb DVD quality for goodness sake! Things do wear out over nearly 2 decades! Sigh...
Hi Backintime90stv, glad you enjoyed my videos, but sadly I don't have anymore Neil Buchanan footage for you at the moment! I agree that "CITV" was great back in those days, so much better than nowadays...
I think I remember that song in one of your old Riddlers videos. Shame the tape snapped due to a faulty VCR - we've all been there though! I love Knightmare too, it was a great show & reminds me of my schooldays! Long-time ago now though!...
The Steve Ryde era was nowhere near as bad as this out of vision era. At least there was creativity and the programmes were still good. I just don't see how people can HATE the 98-04 era. It's not really worth getting angry about and typing a long essay on why you don't like it. My only clear memory of the out-of-vision era is of an ident and this voice talking over it which in my head was a bit more of a foreboding Public Information Film voice whereas watching it back now it just sounds vaguely clownish. It's still good to see Hammad's uploads from that era though.
I also agree with you Jeet27, as it's a real shame what has happened to "CITV" over the past few years or so, with it now being more-or-less confined to the CITV channel only. But it did all start to go wrong from '92 onwards, as I never really cared for the out-of-vision Steve Ryde-era. No offence to Steve, as I'm sure he did his best, but it just wasn't as enjoyable & interesting as the previous in-vision continuity from the likes of Tommy Boyd, Jerry Foulkes, Jeanne Downs & Scally etc!...
That's ok Mr. Hammadmossop1988, no worries as the Aussies say! The trouble with old VHS tapes is that there were so many different brands available & some seem to last longer & were better quality than others! I guess the one I used to record this video clip was a cheap one & not my usual brand of Scotch, which I used to always buy as they were good quality. Also, it also depended on what VCR you had & we had several when I was a child, some were good but others not so good! Oh well...
Well, I try to look after all my tapes as best as I can, but some seem to playback better than others! I find the more expensive brands seem to be better than the cheaper ones, but even so it does seem to be hit & miss - some playback ok, some not so well. But things do wear out over the years, which is a shame & not much we can do about it etc.
Hi MrHammadmossop1988 & long-time no speak! It's ok as VHS tapes can be tempremental & some playback well and others not so well! How are you btw? Are you still into "The Riddlers"?
Well, the whole decline that started after 1992 was down to the 1990 Broadcasting act- a terrible piece of legislation which went a long way into making British TV the pile of shit it is now. Certainly the abolition of the IBA and the god awful 1991 franchise round should never have happenned (just who decided that the winner should be who coughed up the most cash rather than offered the best service? You can tell it was a Tory policy....)
No offence to Steve Ryde and his fans but I couldn't stand it when he took over from Tommy Boyd, I remember being 13 when this happened and it felt so patronising hearing stupid bad "wacky" voices to introduce shows.

I watch Knightmare now and again on RUclips. It was such a awesome show.
Thanks so much for uploading this CITV recording

I absolutely love that Christmas CITV promo including the preview for the new shows coming in 1994.

No problem at all, glad you enjoyed the video!
Well said James, I couldn't agree more. When ITV went offline I was really sad.

Great video
This is the exact one that was shown on the CITV channel for the 30th anniversary this weekend.

Isn't this the episode from the Old Skool Weekend?
