  • Plenty of people talk about Bigfoot, but what is it like to go out searching for the famous cryptid?
On this week’s episode of the Peak Northwest podcast, we talk to Samantha Swindler, videographer and features reporter for The Oregonian/OregonLive, who recently went out into the wilderness with a pair of Bigfoot hunters.
Her experience took her deep into the woods of Sasquatch mythology - and deep into the literal woods as well. She came back with a few ideas about the Pacific Northwest’s most famous monster, and some information about the people who dedicate their lives to finding it.
Here are some highlights from this week’s show:
What is the allure of Bigfoot in the Pacific Northwest?
Sam recounts her camping trip in the Washington wilderness.
These Bigfoot hunters are also looking for something else: missing people.
One theory about all those Bigfoot sightings in the Northwest.

Vicky is the kind of character in a horror movie who gets munched by the monster early on.

You obviously do not have much outdoor experience, but please know you were playing in Bigfoot country! For many years I hunted elk in the Skookum area. Be careful what you look for. I had several odd experiences there, and can only conclude these creatures are real. FYI... not many bears in this area.

My special friend from my favorite group told me she is a Watcher! She was pregnant when we met on November 10th 2014.

I can introduce you to a group in Pa if you want! No joke. I can actually take you to several groups. All in one county. Or nearby this area. My coty I grew up in has at least three different groups that come into town at night. Sometimes during the day too!

Hey guys, if you want to get some to come out and show themselves, you have to speak to them! It really is so very simple. I've seen them since I was 8 years old. They know your thoughts. Express your intentions. You have to ask them. They don't want to scare you. I've only ever had two scary encounters. And I've seen hundreds!!! Just in one county in Pa. They are everywhere!!! Peace!!!

My physical anthropology professor was convinced bigfoot was real simply based on the famous Patterson film. This goes to show how wishful thinking can deceive even so-called "experts" in the field.

This is lame. I went hunting for bigfoot but it was cold and wet so i didnt. Whats the point? First of all why are you camping when its cold and wet? Second rain jacket? Anyone...

Sam Swindler went above and beyond to come camping with our team. Her dedication to storytelling and ability to adapt to even the most inclement of weather was inspiring to see.
We have nothing but wonderful things to say about Sam. Not everyone enjoys being in the great outdoors, yet Sam showed she could do anything she put her mind to. A true warrior. Honored to have gotten to know her.
