I think I know exactly what MTV show inspired you here, from "An Evening with Bon Jovi" from 1993. Used to watch that tape as a kid all the time. So many different and memorable versions of their songs plus some insanely good covers of The Animals and Beatles for instance. Richie was on another level that night and his playing inspires me as a guitarist till this day. Really enjoyed your cover and own spin on it, truly outstanding.
