He’s a unique talent for sure. I find Chris buck is able to speak in a similar vocal fashion without the slide. And of course Guthrie has shown he can make magic with a slide now as well which caught me off guard. I like the video where Derek is playing with bb king and John Mayer is just watching him in awe lol.
Derek does this song after song, night after night, live, in front of sold out crowds and it’s like he’s always finding a new direction. He also always finds room to allow space for everyone else in the TWELVE man band. There’s a whole different level of musicianship to that kind of one take consistency. Yes buck plays live and is really good in front of an audience too but Derek is free of all critical thinking when he plays and that’s straight up wizardry
Derek Trucks is a prodigy. He sat in with the allman brothers at 13 and played like a man beyond his years. He’s the example of someone who put in countless hours woodshedding but he also played with musicians much better than him. I was given an album of his when he was leading his own band and the playing was flawless. He’s married to a woman who herself is a world class talent. He just figured out the people who will help you long term and showed them loyalty.
@@justaguy328 that is because his uncle is one of the founding members! Butch Trucks was the drummer for the allman brothers. RIP legend. The Trucks name continues lives on through musical talent.

There're a lot of great Guitar players around, but only a bunch of them can make the guitar sound like a live creature. Derek Trucks Is One of them..for me the best.
Somehow I always think of Duane while listening to this fine guitar player... I'm pretty sure Duane would approve. R.I.P Duane, you're still in our hearts 💕
Probably not! He has clearly spent a lot of time listening to gospel and soul singers. A lesson for all the rest of us to not just listen to guitar players!
Yes. There are some. Like Steve Vai in the solo of Triumph, Andy Timmons in Hiroshima, or Guthrie Govan when he grabs the slide. Luckily, there are fantastic players (like Trucks) that truly put their hearts when they play!! 😍😍😍
Loving these transcriptions dude! Will probably learn this tonight. It’s hard af learning Derek perfectly by ear. Have you seen TTB do Gravity? m.ruclips.net/video/ShymVaosyl0/видео.html
The answer is yes. But don't get me wrong, Derek Trucks is in a league of his own. But don't forget Eddie Van Halen, Glen Campbell , and Junior Brown. To name a few.
His phrasing is unique in the genre but many more soulful guitarists out there. You loose your soul when you start adding unnesisarry notes .... Truck doesn't let his tones breath in my opinion. Buck actualy has a more well rounded repertoire then Truck.
@@LeviClay Rankings and classifications in music, or any art form, are counter productive and invites speculation on the impossible. He is simply a gifted and wonderful musician among many.

The poor person who has to follow that. If that were me, as soon as Derek finished you’d just hear a buzzing lead get pulled out of a guitar on the right side of the stage.
'Soul' in music is more than some country blues chops. lt comes from the composition over-all not the harmony parts of guitars no matter how good the technician ship of the player. Soul to me in blues music was stated by Jimmy Page playing 'Since lve Been Loving You' or Beck's 'Pork Pie Hat' live in the 70s in white boy terms.
He is a master but that's a lot of cheesy whining vibrato there, also owing to the SG's sound in that range, it's all a matter of taste. After the great vocals, I felt quite uncomfortable over his bars and really enjoyed the first soulful notes of the next player's solo.
I’m going to make you a promise now. I’m never going to put a source in the description. Simply to annoy you. If you asked questions in life rather than barked orders, you’d get further.
@@LeviClay Sounds good. Maybe if you do the least effort here, when you're obviously putting the effort in to transcribe, you'll grow faster because consumers won't be annoyed trying to figure out where the thing actually came from.

Derek Trucks is inimitable. Best slide guitarist ever, by far.
David Lindley?
True that...I've been trying for years, with no luck haha
Duane

I can't imagine having to solo after Derek!
