Listen to The Skip Bayless Show podcast: sprtspod.fox/SkipBaylessShowPodcast
Nick wright > skip
Skip Bayless is out of touch. He just needs to retire and do a Cowboys podcast because I respect his knowledge of "his" team. As for his opinions on the rest of the league, he's painful to listen to. I wasn't a huge fan of Shannon Sharpe either as his ego is a bit to big, but he was the only reason that show was tolerable last season. I don't care who they try to put with Skip, I have other more entertaining shows to watch.
Why plug this horrible podcast
CJ Stroud better than Brock Purdy sorry that's facts
Fire Kyle when we don't win Superbowl and they sign Bosa and handicap our franchise back to the bottom we heading
What's crazy is two QBs taken Top 3 in their respective draft classes are trying to unseat a QB taken dead last overall in his draft class.
Underdogs on Top now !!!
Which is crazy like I get everything Brock has done. But you can’t tell me he’s more physically, gifted than Trey or Sam they should be blowing him out of the water.
@@chrismarshall1723 who cares; wins matter
@@louisloother301something which the niners won't get with Purdy at QB this year. Seattle wins that DIV

I’m a lifetime 49ers guy , I never felt lance was my go to qb, Brock came out of nowhere and really brought life to the team and the fans
Trey Lance was a project quarterback anyways. He’s not the guy at all. Can’t even stay healthy enough to see him play
Thank you, I have been saying this to all my Trey Lance fan friends. Trey hasn't really felt like my QB lol probably because he hasn't really played yet.. but still. Brock Purdy has been my #1 QB since his first game as a starter against Tom Brady. Heck might as well add his game with the Dolphins too.
"brought life to the team and the fans", that's an emotional fallacy. A fallacy is an argument that sounds convincing but has no logical value. It's like saying "Jimmy G shouid be the QB, he gets the girls going with that jawline!".
Brock Purdy stats in his 8 starts last year:
14 TD, 2 INT, 67.4 Completion %, 115.9 Passer Rating, 7-1 Record (was injured the only game he lost)
Yeah, I’m SHOCKED he’s the starter.
Frfr nicks a clown.
Imagine the Niners starting Trey Lance after what Brock Purdy did last year...that would be the perfect way to lose your locker room and your season.
You'd have to be SURE he's the better option otherwise the moment things start going south..the whole franchise can sink
The only way it wouldn't crumble is if Lance was incredible and the niners win game after game after game.
I agree with you that Brock should start after what he did last season, but Trey, or Sam, should be able to shorten his leash
@@WarrenF19 Sam Darnold is complete garbage and is honestly pretty lucky to even have an opportunity to be a back up with his performance through this career. Man had just as many turnovers as TDs in college and has the same in the NFL, only he’s complete trash as far as winning games goes.

Purdy had a great college career. Lots of big tough games which prepared him for the NFL better than Lance
Yup, Purdy started 4 straight seasons and Trey started 1. The reps aren’t even close.
It sucks for Trey Lance but Brock Purdy stepped up at the most important time and proved he's exactly what the team needs, plus he has the support of the locker room. No-brainer to start him
It wasn't hard, remember, they won a playoff game with only six passes from Jimmy. The team is stacked, and in training camp, they aren't saying Brock looks better. He has the most interceptions and dropped interceptions.

The 49ers are in it to win it, if you accidentally hit on a 7th round draft pick you can’t punish him because of someone you took in the first round. @@323johnnybravo nick’s argument is that they don’t know that moving on is more beneficial. He’s started 3 games. If he started more games and was clearly bad, then the sunk cost fallacy would be a good way to describe the situation.
Nick conveniently didn’t mention Josh Rosen, the best example of a team giving up on a young QB super early, in his list of QB busts at the beginning
Conveniently?
How many games did Josh Rosen start?
Rosen started 16 games before he lost out on a chance to be a starter
That’s not a very good example my man

Honestly, I love that the niners are willing to bench the guy they gave up 3 first round picks for, to start a seventh round pick. It shows me that Kyle has the freedom to field the team he wants and that ownership just wants to win.
💯
The difference between Snyder and York.
and lose every time hahaha
People love saying 3 1st round draft picks because it sounds dramatically worse but it's really just 2
Exactly is says they are willing to put the best talent on the field regardless of salary or draft picks
Nick will take a side and say that Lance is required to play, but the offense of the 49ers, the players, coaching staff of one of the best in the league is behind Brock Purdy. Plenty of reason to believe in the guy if everyone else around him wants him to be the starter. Dude earned the starting job, plain and simple. No one is given anything. Don’t even think Lance is a bust, but you have to do right by the guys that have succeeded, and he could find a starting opportunity, just not in San Fran by the looks of it.
That's what I'm sayin'.
They also backed jimmy too🤣secretly both aiyuk and Deebo would rather have lance the only two that like purdy is cmc and kittle because their targets only come in dump offs and quick slants. Purdy is close to averaging a pick 6 every other practice and enough picks and dropped picks to be over 1 a practice he is worse than jimmy with protecting the ball
Why do we give Kyle flowers he hasn’t earned. Does he have success with the 49ers yes do we say they have the most stacked rosters yes. Also to call plays that lead to 4 qb injuries and not take any heat is crazy. Both injuries in the playoff were a TE blocking an elite pass rusher
I mean brock could be a bust... in a weird way... if he doesn't play well coming back off a pretty serious injury... if he just has a slightly less amount of zip on the ball it could cause issues... bust not in draft pick but in built up hype and prospect...
You're missing the point of they gave up 3 first round picks to select lance they should give him some game run just to see if he's bad or not and if he's bad make him a back up and accept the L on selecting him or if he's pretty good and you could maybe squeeze a needy team out of a pick or two.
The niners front office, coaching staff, the players “his teammates” and the fans are all on the same page about Brock Purdy after last season. Seems like its just the media that aren’t….typical!!
Brou's sunk cost fallacy point was brilliant
Anytime you use someone else's argument against them, effectively... it's tasty.
Nah because it didn’t fit the argument here. Only if Trey has ALREADY PROVEN to be bad. But for 3.5 games? You cannot make an evaluation off that small sample size.
Perhaps the coaching staff knows something we don’t?
@@bkb04gTrey was given everything & all starter reps. Purdy only had like 2 - 3 starter reps. One made the most of it, the other.... not so much. Get over it, Purdy earned his respect & spot among the starters. Common sense not so common. 🙄
Only if you don't know what sunk cost fallacy is. Let me dumb it down.
You brought an expensive car and you drove it once, but you don't know if you like it or not. You keep it because you spent a lot of money and don't want to lose money.
You brought an expensive car and you hate it with a passion. You know you don't want it, but you keep it because you'd lose money if you sell it.
There's a chance in scenario A, you actually like the car and may be the best car you ever had; whereas scenario B you know you do not like it and keep it. Distinct difference.
But the truth is KS will never commit to any QB no matter what they do to prove themselves, even if he became Superbowl MVP
When did Brady compete against Bledsoe? Even after Bledsoe was promised to have his starting job when he recovered from his injury! Now we have a no doubt GOAT! AND when was Brady drafted? So Nick's theory would've prevented a GOAT because what if Bledsoe would've won the job in training camp? Would the Patriots have done what they did? AND Brady had players vouch for him over Bledsoe too. Nick is becoming the new Skip. History means nothing to him
Nick is arguing this because Trey is black and Brock is white. I guarantee you the other way he would be doing QB reveal comparisons stacking up purdys(treys) stats over that stretch with Joe Burrow or something. Chris is a real one. Just calls it as it is
The same thing happened to Alex Smith. He was on pace for a career year, gets a concussion, and lost his job to Kaep. Smith had just signed a 3 year deal that year and was traded the following year. This is the NFL and if the next man up plays well....
@@camcunningham9443 thank you for pointing this out, that's exactly the reason.
@@byronsmith3152yup. This is football. It's tough. A bird in the hand is always worth two in the bush. The simple fact is, you KNOW you can win with one guy, and you don't even know if the other guy has the stuff. If you give Trey a chance and he doesn't work, you throw away your season. When your roster and coaching staff is this good, you can't afford to waste seasons. Football is an ephemeral sport. You can go from worst to first one year, and you can go from first to worst in the next. You used your picks to pick a quarterback, and while it might not have been the guy you spent all the capital on, you found a guy. The objective was to find a guy who can start and you did.
I've been ride or die for Trey Lance ever since we picked him; that is, until I saw purdy. Purdy did everything right, made fewer mistakes than Jimmy, gave us just enough mobility to be dangerous, AND made just enough extra plays to win tight games. I mean, c'mon, a ROOKIE got you to the NFC championship! A ROOKIE! How many times has that happened PERIOD? He's the closest a rookie QB has come to a super bowl maybe ever. I think Trey is probably a real good kid, and it's nothing against him. But people need to stop. Brock Purdy is everything we were looking for and we magically found him at the end of the rainbow.
Why aren't any of realizing your argument is flawed? In every scenario you're describing, it's a veteran being replaced by a young player. I agree that there should have been a mild competition. They didn't even bring Trey in as #2, basically giving Darnold the upper hand from the start. That alone is revealing.
I love when people say "its never happened" like that means it can never happen. Theres always a first for everything and you may be witnessing it
If Trey Lance loses confidence because he's the backup, then he's not that guy.
Purdy >>>
THIS
Nick is crazy. He talked non stop about how Lance needed time to develop because he played so little in college. Well, obviously his coaches think he needs longer, but you want to put him in as a starter over a guy that the players and coaches clearly believe gives them a better chance to win.
Sharing practice time with 3 other qbs isn't developing, let alone Kyle's ""coaching""
Dude is a bust most likely. I am not sure why struggle with this possibility. Trance got paid and that is all they owe him. Just bad tv
Purdy was tough, did his job as needed, was confident, and played his tail off. He should start.
Anyone else notice how ALL of Nick’s arguments are in favour of anything that would make any given team worse (except the Chiefs). Also, the greater potential any given team has to beating the Chiefs, the more loudly he doth protest.
It’s refreshing how Kevin’s Wilde’s faith in his Chiefs doesn’t require him attempting to undermine all other challengers.
I've noticed that but He's got a point backed by facts on this one.
@@Az-dc4nu No he doesn't.
Yeah it would be more entertaining if he just hated out loud on teams that are threats to the Chiefs instead of doing his seasonal habit of moving the goalpost every month.
-although on this topic it is fair to say that all QB's should be given a chance given how young they are
@@user-iq7ry6hm8f Trey Lance had his chance. So did Jimmy G.
@@marcusaurelius5149he really didn’t nick made a good point
That's the difference, right at the end. The difference between Lance and all those other busts is that the 49ers are good and are in win-now mode. The Leaf Chargers, JaMarcus Raiders, Couch Browns, etc. were horrible teams that earned those top 3 overall picks and had time to trot out their pick to fully evaluate him. The 49ers, as a legitimate Super Bowl contender, do not have that luxury. They need to play whoever is the best guy right now.
Then why did you choose a total project in Trey Lance over Justin Fields or Mac Jones in the 1st place? Neither Jones or Fields have lit the world on fire but from no angle does the Lance pick even make sense. Fields had just as much upside if not more and was a far safer pick and Jones was more NFL ready.
@truthbearer7891 I don't disagree. All I would say is that they probably thought Lance was the best of the three and that they could take time developing for a year with Jimmy G holding down the fort. That was still their intention when Lance got hurt, but then Jimmy (of course) got hurt and Brock came in and seized the role, playing better than Jimmy ever did. The point is that now they are in win-now mode more than ever (as their vets are getting older) and they can't waste games on a guy that might be good, but hasn't had the opportunity to prove it, when they have a guy that has proven he's good. Those other teams that Nick is talking about were never in this position. They should have tried to trade Lance before the draft to a team like Vegas or Tennessee (or, if they were comfortable trading him within the conference, Tampa, New Orleans, Atlanta or Washington).
Since pre season last year, I said Brock should at least be QB2. Jimmy would be QB1 due to experience, but Brock outplayed Lance in my opinion. There was a reason they brought Jimmy back! People don't seem to understand that. They didn't like Lance and couldn't see themselves taking a risk on Brock when they were expected to be a top playoff team. They actually took a risk, hoping Lance would be that guy by starting him, and that risk didn't pay off. Lance also lost to the worst team last year. That alone should have killed any controversy. 😂
But but but monsooooon! Okay but the other team still pulled a win.. 🤔
The 49ers don’t want to develop a qb, they want a ready made one.
A team in win now mode drafting Lance made no sense
Trey isn't made, and he never will be. He's a draft bust.
@@hiphopotamus69 With Jimmy G coming off another injury, it made sense. Trading up to get Lance is what made zero sense.
7:46 The 49ers literally have taken this stance. Kyle and John said Brock is 'the leader in the club house' and will get 1st team reps due to his performance last year. This is why if you want actual takes and news for your teams support your beat writers.
um...Nick.....thats EXACTLY how they are positioning it. I mean almost word for word. No idea why you think otherwise. I'd pay more attention to Shanahan and Lynch and less to national media. They just aren't going to trade him. They needed 5 QBs last year.
Additionally, he's looked good in camp. Let's see what happens in preseason.
Trey should be QB1.
So Nick is saying they should compete for the starting job in Pre-Season evaluated based on their performance in Pre Season
Yet simultaneously saying you cannot evaluate talent during Pre Season only during the Regular Season
I don't quite understand what you mean this is unprecedented, didn't this same thing happen to Alex Smith who was the 49rs quarterback and they'd taken him high in the draft they invested money in him and then Colin Kaepernick got a hot hand and then they chose to stay with him at quarterback?
Smith played more than one season and got replaced after he was hurt, Nick is saying Lance only played 4 games before being dropped.

Niners should play Trey in pre season and trade him, if they're 100% committed to Brock.
Pretty much everyone will not play their starters in the preseason.
Trey Lance needs to ask for a trade,
Lol 😂 Brous last quote summarizes how I feel about this 13:13
Lance is a bust. Its not unique. Tebow, Rosen, RG3, Winston.... The list is endless. Do I think Purdy is elite? No. I think he is on the Kirk Cousins level which is enough to win a SB with all those weapons. As loaded teams have a small window - you go with what wins NOW. That's the bottom line.
Not sure you can call him a “bust” yet. There will be some team I’m sure that will want to trade for him at some point and then that determination can be made.
You can't label someone a bust with only a few game appearances.
Despite being very intelligent and eloquent Nicks arguments are often very emotionally driven. I’m surprised someone doesn’t call it out a bit more. Entertaining though
Something these guys didnt mention but im thinking as a Niner fan and the team probably is as well is that the way things have gone with Niner QB injuries, Lance has a very high likelyhood of playing even if they start the season with him as QB3. I dont have exact numbers with me but since Shanahan came in in 2017, we have had 3 or maybe 4 seasons where we had to play 3+ different QBs due to injury. Last year we played FOUR QBs. 2 years before that we played 3 QBs. If history repeats itself (which i hope to God it wont) Lance will have a few chances to play this season.
@weegeemike you are correct. Even if Lance is the backup there is a better than 50% chance he'll play this season. One of the reasons is the O line has some holes in it. Last year they had McGlinchey who was not that great. I heard the player who replaced him isn't that great either. I would say besides QB that OL is the other concern for the Niners. Since the QB depends on the OL for protection, they go hand in hand.
Where Trey and Brock were drafted is irrelevant. Which QB gives you the best opportunity to win is the only thing that matters. Right now it appears Brock gives the 49ers the best chance to win. End of debate. Nick keeps screaming "Give him a chance." Trey is in his third training camp. If he hasn't convinced Shanahan he should be the starter by now, he never will.
I want to admire Nick. If his ability to reason could ever approach his talent for rhetoric, he'd be exceptional. As it stands, he's always right on the verge of a coherent thought.
Exactly right. He’s also kind of an obnoxious, arrogant, despicable human being on top of his intellectual limitations
this is an exceptional burn
Who would’ve thought Kyle shanahan knew more about evaluating QBs then Nick wright
A follow up question would be what makes him deserve a competition for the job? Nothing he shown says he's a number 1 qb other than them fing up with drafting him in the first if he was Manziel I'm sure people would have a different opinion and that would be the right opinion to have.
"That's not uncommon"
Immediately names incredibly uncommon players
Another point is in George Kittles career, He has had at least 3 starting qbs in every year but one (when they went to the super bowl). People say the coach doesnt like Lance. Not true. The niners are going into this year with three qbs who may be able to win a playoff game (or at least thats the plan) Its not about whats best for either of the other qbs, they are on the team under contract. And hopefully they learned a lesson from what Purdy did. Work hard and be ready because at some point during the season you will get a chance. What you do with it is up to you. So dont blame the coach, gm, or the easter bunny. It is on you to be ready just like Purdy was.
Brock Purdy, what a gem as a Man and QB for our team. Fine humble man and role model..Feel lucky Niner fans
So, wait. If Brocky Purdy fails with the same team, same coach, and a better roster, that proves that Jimmy G.'s success with the 49ers was fraudulent? Wouldn't that point toward the opposite being true?
Jimmy g is throwing all the interceptions at raiders camp.
Purdy already surpassed anything that Jimmy g did in his playoff career... In only the first playoff game of his.
49ers win cause Kyle Shannahan is the 2nd best coach to ever live after Andy Reid. Only Reid inflates QB stats more than Shannahan
I don't care about Garoppolo or people's opinions on him. But the idea that "Jimmy G. fans" want Purdy to be good because, if he fails, it makes Jimmy look bad literally makes ZERO sense.
@@erikpuka2627how about we wait for him to at least lead 1 SB winning team before putting him up with the greats. He is a great head coach but he isn't in the league of the Parcells, Belicheck and Reed.
That’s Not what they’re saying Nick, they’re saying Brock did so well last season and is still improving it’s hard not to give him the opportunity to continue to be the starter!!!
I wouldnt get rid of trey. If Brock gets hurt, and just look at last season, he’ll be right up & next to start.
The longer you keep him the lower his already low trade value goes , you’re not winning with lance so why not trade him and sign a veteran QB
If a team makes an offer they would probably entertain it. But they probably won’t actively look to trade him. At least until the season is over.
Anyone who wants to truly know what's going on, I'd invite you to look up David Lombardi who has been one of the more trusting writers following the Niners. Lance has improved tremendously. But he says that the QB position is an investment. Lance is staying because it makes no sense to let him go
Totally agree on it making no sense to let him go. We’ve seen time and time again they have issues with their QB’s being able to stay healthy and purdy is coming off of an injury now so why let him go when you might need him part of the way through the season if purdy goes down again. It’s best to play it safe and just keep him for now. It’s not like they’d be able to get much for him if they tried to trade him anyways. If they were gonna get like a first round pick out of it for next years draft then yea maybe but that isn’t the case
I hope to one day see a Purdy vs Mahomes super bowl
So purdy can get completely mopped by a qb whos actually good?
Why because you're a Chiefs fan?
@daveg2938 cardinals fan but rooting for the hometown hero of course
That's EXACTLY the position Nick. The 49ers love Trey, only the national media with a narrative believe Darnold is the #2 right now. The 49ers are still very high on Lance, BUT Purdy was the BEST qb, better than your boy Mahomes Nick, over a 6 game period. How do you start potential over even limited proof?
I will never understand the love the media has for Trey Lance and Justin Fields. So crazy.
Maybe fields but not trey
Absolutely! 👌👌👌
Sounds about white
Yet you understand it for Trevor Lawrence and Justin Herbert got it
What else do they have in common? 😉
there is no "they got a chance to play" when youre a team trying to win a super bowl. its not like the 49ers are tanking. It was trey's job to lose and he got hurt (not blaming him just saying). Brock comes in and goes 7-0 lmao like why wouldnt he be the starter at that point? I can't name one scenario when some guy gets injured and the back up plays better and doesnt keep the job unless the starter is making "face of franchise" money.
That’s the whole issue with the 49ers. They got a Superbowl team now. Don’t have time to wait and see
Where is their SB O-line....seem like that is still being ignored. Have to learn the hard way.😅
By that logic Sam should be starting over Brock since no one has time to wait for him to fully heal 😂😂
The tradition is to maximise the chances for 1st round picks. Its always about not admitting a draft mistake. Lance is good but Purdy played great. Purdy deserves to start and management deserves all the credit for simply doing what your eyes and numbers tell you to do.
Just absolutely insane that a SB team drafted the most raw prospect in a decade and expected him to be good right away
Trey Lance didn’t even play his last year of college basically and even before then I wasn’t sure bout the hype
Because fans think one great year means they are HOF players. He should have never been drafted has high as he was and the niners should have NEVER made the trade they did.
Moments like this I point to when Russell’s Wilson beat out,as a 3rd round rookie, Matt Flynn after he just got a big contract from the Seahawks. At that point people should know no job is safe. The Cardinals literally trade thier 1st round QB a year prior to pick Kyler Murray
This is an example Nick would never bring up because the black guy usurped the right way. He’d be best man won to the bank. He’d be right, but it shows how dubious his analysis can be. Brou is the real one on this show
EXACTLY. And y'know what, if you redid this draft now, Brock Purdy is going probably at the top of the first round. He was so good that scouts and executives had to reevaluate their methods this year to make sure they didn't miss out on a guy like Brock
There was not near the same level of investment in Matt Flynn vs Trey Lance and Russell Wilson went on to tie Peyton Manning's rookie TD record and was ironically an LOB choke away from having a chance to be 1st rookie QB to start a Super Bowl.
@@truthbearer7891They gave that man a contact for 3 years with the expectation he’ll start. My point is simply nothing is promised from getting pick up in free agency or the draft. Another example Kenny Golladay signed a 72mill contract and basically never seen the field because he was good enough to start. Also how many times have we seen players lose their job because they got injured and the guy behind them did well and never looked back. He has to prove his head and shoulders above Prudy to get the job back because what has Trey Lance shown thattell you he should start over Prudy outside of he was drafted earlier in his Draft?
@@trevonricks5975 you are speaking facts my friend. Nothing but facts
I don't understand why a franchise would pick a guy who started one year in college
Nick is wrong. They have seen Trey for 3 years. Brock won 8 games, 2 playoff games. The nfl is tough. If Trey was good he would win the job back. Brock earned it and proved it.
Last preseason Lance did not impress, other than one long pass for a TD. When he started, he lost to a poor Chicago team. Yes, it was raining, but the other young QB had to play in the same weather as he did. He really needs to show something this preseason. Last year Purdy proved himself in preseason and won the third string spot. He also proved himself during the season. Nick reminds me of the guy that will cut off his nose to spite his face.
Bro broke his ankle in half and he isn't even 24 got drafted at 21 years old give him a break n time
Purdy never faced a formidable defense. Seattle is the best team he faced and they were suspect across the roster and were lucky to get in. It’s easy to look ok when you have HOFs all around you and in a run heavy defense. Purdy is a bottom 3 qb until he proves he can actually play after teams have tape and he faces actually good defenses.
Absolutely! 👏👏👏
9ere saved cap space by keeping Purdy sudfield had a better pre season
@@blackichan3866Never faced a formidable defense? They played the cowboys in the play offs and won. The cowboys had a top 5 defense. You purdy haters just say anything.
The reason this is different is that Super Bowl caliber teams never have a draft pick that high. Those teams have time to let the 1B develop. The 49ers don't have that time, they're in win now mode, they have arguably the best roster in the league.
Trey just better stay ready. This is the NFL. Chances are great that he'll get a chance this year.
The 49ers go through QBs like people change underwear. They need to keep 4 on the roster.
Lol, just walked out and took out garbage while Nick and Brou are arguing and people are thinking I'm arguing with someone😂😂😂😂😂
The Niners love Trey, but the days of handing someone a job without earning it are gone. The 49ers will allow him a little longer to develop further. He's grown a lot in this off-season. Had Trey shown to be better than Purdy he would be starting. It's not that he can't play it's that someone is better right now than he is, but that does not mean that Trey can't raise his level of play.
NFL Preseason: we’ve got nothing to say, but we’re yelling anyway.
NFL Preseason: We will only see rookies and backups.
I am NOT a Trey Lance fan but Nick makes some good points. Kinda crazy move by the Niners. Regardless they can do whatever they want and thinking best in regard to winning.
Nick think he knows everything you would think he’s won 10 super bowls and 10
MVPs 😂
what's crazy is Nick is upset about trey Lance's lost opportunities but there are millions of generational talents that get taken out of high school and college that never even gets a chance in the pros period because they missed less than an opportunity. trey had plenty of chances and there is a reason the team isn't high on him.
He also had a good season in a very easy college division and he knew it too--it was a fluke--that's why he declared so early.
Plenty of chances? Nah
@@AtribecalledsuccessTrey was given everything without competing for the Starter job. Purdy only had 2 - 3 starter reps. Purdy earned his right as QB1. No excuses as #3 overall.
@@ghostx4747 it’s still a waste of a trade to move up in the draft and take him if your gonna stash him behind darnold
@Atribecalledsuccess Well, that's Trey's fault. Now Trey has to earn it. Like Brock, just wait for your opportunity & show up like he did or better. It's common sense.
"That's the way the Crumbl Cookie crumbles." 😆👌
This has never happened in history... gives examples of it happening.-Nick Wright
Trey Lance has gotten a chance every practice.
If you can't wow the team in practice, it's a fool's errand to assume he'll somehow wow in actual games.
Listen, there are reasons they picked Lance which I won't go into but he wasn't their first choice. Second, the reason they went with Lance at the beginning of the season was because they made a huge investment in Lance, Jimmy couldn't stay healthy so he was out initially (they didn't even give him the playbook until the season started). Lance got hurt, unfortunately for best for the niners season. Bottom line is he had 1 year at small d1 school, in the preseason and his starts can barely complete 50% of his passes. In practice he shows nothing, has one of the worst arm mechanics I've seen.
First off ur guessing they didnt want trey, when the evidence actually point to they wanted trey and its just speculation they wanted mac jones, second they moved off jimmy because they knew he wasnt good enough to get it done not just because of the injuries, third he fixed his mechanics over the offseason and saying hes shown nothing is a complete falacy he looks much better im not arguing he should start over brock because im very much of the opinion that brock will be hurt at some point this year and trey will get his chance anyway
@@DavidMartinez-ft4xj To say Jimmy was good enough would ignore the facts and stats. His win percentage with us was ridiculous and literally saved the season last year. He might not have been worth the 27 million per, but that is Lynch making another bad contract. Don't get me started on Lynch. And Lance has not fixed his mechanics. I've seen the footage and it is still the same and it is bad. He might have fixed some footwork. His arm is strong but can't hit a target and from what I heard doesn't understand the reads.
@@selftotjits that doesnt make it a fact, apparently kyle shannahan believes he could win a bunch of games with sam dranold who hasnt been any good i think that speaks more to the team then the qb thats why qb wins arent a real stat its a team game fact is jimmy G has been on one of the most stacked rosters since he got here, i dont know where ur getting your "information" from but every single thing ive heard from multiple sources is that trey lance looks worlds better then he did last year and apparently you dont know what your looking at no offense footwork is part of mechanics and his arm placement is completely different, he still misses the occassional short throw but thats more cuz he doesnt have the feel reps for it yet hes much improved, doesnt understand reads is laughable...but no qb is perfect purdy has been underthrowing the deep ball with regularity in camp
You're literally making the point why Shanahan's evaluation skills at QB should be questioned. How can you justify Lance over Justin Fields in the 1st place. Even if you say Fields is unproven, he was a far safer pick than Lance on paper and it's not even close.
@@truthbearer7891 You aren't wrong about that, however what I will say is that Jimmy performed incredibly well when others didn't in the offense. I don't like most of Lynch's picks and from what I hear, Lance was not their first choice. Same went for Jimmy, Shanahan didn't want Jimmy, Lynch traded for him. Shanahan wanted Cousins to come over.
Nick is acting like just because you are drafted you have a RIGHT to play in the NFL. You don't.
Why people aren’t talking about is qb competition is for when players can’t compete under the bright lights.. if they can they are your starter… we found a gem and talkers like them are trying to bring up other things… but let’s go to actual games one and played in without injury
What he did last year is played with talent on both sides of the ball.
Purdy stepped in & EARNED the starting role by going 7-1. Only loss being due to injury. Team respects him. Trey’s play has improved, so hopefully they can find a good trade for him & get some of that “sunk cost” back.
I'm pulling for Brock, but man he's got some pressure on him to really perform this year. Even harder for him coming off a major injury to his throwing arm.
Trey Lance is the biggest value of a bust in NFL history, Purdy is one of the biggest value drafted QB's ever. No, there is no competition. It's Purdy's team and Trey and ride the bench.
To me, the simple answer to why Lance is in this position rn is cuz he hasn't played much football since high school. 1yr starting in college & only 3+ starts going into yr3 of the NFL. It's possible that the lack of game reps has stunted his growth the last 5yrs. He lost a college yr to Covid & last yr to injury. Tough break 😓🫤
Wright is a 🤡 during the end of last year he was saying Purdy is a franchise qb
The best player plays. If that's Brock Purdy than he gets to play. Even if he's 1A and Lance is 1B. Then you trade Lance and get as much for him as you can and he can go compete somewhere else. But you play the best player at every position no matter where they were drafted. If that's Lance then he should start. All you need to do is look at Brady vs Bledsoe back on the Pats. It shouldn't matter your pedigree, draft position, salary, etc. The best player should play.
That’s LITERALLY how they’re positioning it holy Christ
I’m not a 49er fan but I totally agree with going with Purdy moving forward. He won the job, probably if not for the injury takes the team to the Super Bowl and who knows…. Maybe they win. I’m not sure how you come back the next year and not start the kid! So what if he’s the last pick in the draft, there are players every year at all positions that don’t even get drafted that make teams as UDFA’s and go on to be stats. He’s earned his shot and you ride with him until he shows you that you can’t. None of these scouts have a perfect record scouting players. Every year there are guys that are drafted high that under perform and other that over perform. It’s called being human. When homie is a head coach or something other than a commentator on TV then he can draft his team. Until then put a cork in it and watch and enjoy with the rest of us!
Look at the history of Mr. nobody #12 Brady. Look what happened to the QB position @ New England in 1999-2000
Why does this matter? Shannahan is only brilliant at two things: getting players/QB's hurt and losing big games. It doesn't matter who starts, by week 5-8 there will be a different QB because Shannahan will do something stupid, which directly relates to one of his QB's getting hurt.
Runs in the family.
It’s not rocket science. They play together every day, they throw to the same receivers versus the same defence. And if we’re talking about the “the fire” of a game we’ve already seen brock step up and be clutch in high pressure moments. He obviously has won the locker room, there’s a lot more nuance than nick is stating. The coaches are watching how the team responds to each QB, their leadership, as well as their ability under the SAME situation every single day. You go with Brock all day. We’ve seen countless times the better game manager/accurate passer beats the dynamic athlete most times at the QB position. Don’t psych yourself out of a situation that has miraculously played into your favour as the Niners. They’ve been struggling with the QB position for years and now they’ve stumbled upon what could be something special. Don’t play yourself out a position that fell into your lap.
Purdy is going to start 0-1 this season!
@@bbacc929 didn’t know the season is 1 game
would love to see the qb documentary with purdy , it would be a very unique story and probably a lot of adversity this yr
Not sure if people agree but Nick is being extra obnoxious and sometimes downright disrespectful towards Bru recently.
I used to be a huge fan of the show but now it's just "Nick is always right" cringefest and Undisputed like shouting when the real charm was just friends hanging out and talking about sports. Even towards the end with Baker segment, Greg and Nick were just bombarding Bru for some dumb reason, nice to see Wildes take Bru's side for once. They act like he doesn't know what he's talking about, weird looks and everything. Very disappointing to see this devolve into Nick and friends feeding his narcissism.
Trey has played in 4 games. Did not do well in any of them. Don't know why they depend so much on draft rank.
Dear 49ers fan, not really following your team, I’m knee deep in my Jags hype, but how does Brock look after the surgery? Hope he’s back and balls out for y’all.
From the reports he has looked pretty darn good.
We understand your confusion as to what the niners are doing as qbs go but we don't care. The best starts period. Get over it.
nickWrong thinking he knows more than NFL coaches, GMs and players is Truly PATHETIC. Finally Broussard putting him in his place
What’s aged this even more terribly is that Shanahan revealed that Purdy was actually better than Jimmy G and Lance during his rookie training camp, but they couldn’t mess with the depth chart.
This is idiotic
I dont care about where player was drafted
If he is good he is good
Purdy>Lance by a mile
What you dont want to do is create controversy which is what Nick Wrong is sayin
