Morning Andre, I watched very, very carefully and the SJ8 won out in 2 of 3 categories...Satbilization - SJ8...Audio - SJ8...Colour - GoPro but saying that, as this is a brand new camera and the first firmware I am a firm believer that SJCAM will tweak the settings. I did watch this very closely. 👍
Very very close. The stabilization looks identical in quality, SJ8 has a warmer color profile and the Hero 6 has slightly better dynamic range, but barely. Wonderful video and the closest in quality to the Hero 6 that I have seen yet from any action camera. Cheers
Yes they are VERY close. Now in the SJ8's defense, you can adjust the color temperature in video so I could have turned it down to match the Hero, but I left it at midway (which is factory default) just to keep it fair between the two cameras. Thanks as always for your input and watching !
Great comparison, for the price i think the SJ8 is the better bang for the buck in the moment. I wold like to see how is the audio off the SJ8 pro with the waterproof case.
Interesting comparisons, the Hero 6 has better color balance and appears to be a bit sharper, with my ear the SJ8 audio had better high frequency where the Hero 6 sounds a bit muffled. I am inclined to thing the Firefly 8s would hurry both of them up.
Well the Firefly 8S does not offer image stabilization at 4K, only 1080@60. Now I wonder if the Firefly 8SE or X will offer it. So far, the Sony FDR-X3000, Hero 6 and SJ8 Pro offer the best image stabilization at 4K@30 for 2018, but we're only 1/2 way through the year :)
Yes you are correct here, I mainly shoot in 1440 so I can get 60 fPS and to do that I use a Zhiyun Smooth Q gimbal with a hand made mount. I use the 90 degree version and this combination comes close to my Sony AX53 and I can mix the footage. For such a tiny camera it works very well so if they produce a 4k 60 fps version later I will buy it.
Do you have access to a Garmin Virb Ultra 30? I'd like to see a comparison between the SJ8 Pro and Virb Ultra 30. I'm leaning towards a Virb until seeing your recent test footage of the SJ8 pro. Also, do you have an opinion how the 6 axis stabilization will hold up to mountain bike rides? I mean do you have an opinion of if the jostling will be too much for the SJ's stabilizing system and therefore become internally damaged? I didn't intend to purchase a camera for stabilization (I have an EVO SS and Hero2). Lastly, when do we get to hear the results of the battery longevity per charge?
Chris M : hello, first question, no I have not gotten the Garmin virb ultra 30 but if they send me one I’ll review it. 2, I think the sj8 will be fine gyro wise as it’s firmware driven instead of hardware so it will hold up to biking. 3 , so far I have gotten right at 1 hour 20 minutes shooting in 4K with all the lights and front screen turned off. Hope this helps.
Thank you for the info. At $120 cheaper than the Garmin, the SJ seems on par. Colors is a bit muted but that's okay. As you well know, the Hero 5 and 6 in a Gimbal is just noisy. I don't want to be locked into one version of firmware for eternity and an external mic doesn't sound appealing to me as a mountain biker. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.
Very nice and fair comparison video, same FOV, video sync well mean lightning condition is the same, well done. I would appreciate if u can put both camera to still and near some grass or leaf, crop 50%, 100% to test on the sharpness on both camera. thanks for the great video. Anyway personally i like the GoPro audio quality as it higher on bass and depth compare to SJCam.
GOPRO has a better image quality. But the audio quality on the SJ8 PRO is way better than the GOPRO. For the money you can't really complain about the SJ8.

Gopro won every category here as expected. Sj8 audio sounds awful and wondering if you had protune turned on Gopro ?

Unfortunately it's winter now so no water testing until Spring as it's too cold in the swimming pool now.

Steve Hutchesson : Oh don’t get me wrong I love both of my 8S’s ( 170* and 90* versions)
thanks you very much, can you test stabiliazer when run, test hdr, test low light ?
Trần Minh Tấn Đạt - NTN : here is the full review with indoor low light test ruclips.net/video/z0B2fRjY_IA/видео.html
GOPRO all the way ! btw you sound like you have the Golden Voice for radio !

Anytime ! Thanks for watching
What is the full settings of sjcam 8 pro?
4K@30 and all auto
How you get iso auto please explain

Ok, I'll try to do that in the next day or two. Thanks for watching
My opinion based on this video the stabilization looks equal. The sj8 pro has better audio. Hero 6 has better image quality.
Completely agree with Tom Claas.
👍🎥
Looks like the SJ8 has better EIS, but the image quality is MUCH better on the Hero. I think the GoPro sounds better too.

Hero 6 better
