Unless you really think the J7 is too big there's no reason to go for the J5, and if you really like smaller phones then the A3 is a better choice than the J5.. the J5 is probably a great phone but there's just no reason to buy it over other Samsung phones..
The first smart phone i used was Samsung S4 Value edtion. It also had 2GB Ram. And i used that phone for like 2 years, and the only problems i faced on that was the battery issue and secondly i never had an update for it. So, i was like using lollipop version till 2018. But J5 Pro is really going great. I overcame with both the problems at once. Cant say any thing about A5 coz i havent used it yet..

I am using j5 pro currently and i can say it is the best in it's price and is better than A3 2017 both are at the same price range but A5 2017 no doubt is better than A5 17 because if you spend more you get more so J5 pro is phone yiu gotta go for a budget of $290
