Yeah looks are very important for idols. When BB debuted they were called the ugliest idol group. But their talents spoke for themselves, not their looks. I want you to keep in mind, that Daesung is very confident in how he looks and he only had his hair covering his face because of the concept for the bang bang bang era. Those jokes they made about his appearance before he debuted made him stronger and able to joke back and not let it affect him when they debuted and the interviewers would make jokes about it and also when the general public was calling him ugly along with the rest of the group. Gd also said YG built them up to have tough skin because the worst is coming when they debut, and he was right. Did you watch his interview “night after night” and how he addressed the disgusting comments from people who wanted him to end his life over a song misunderstanding during 2009? I’ve never seen someone address ridiculous comments with such poise, to where he almost seemed like he was apologizing to them by saying “I understand their frustrations, all I can do now is move forward and work even harder to make you guys proud”. Then there’s the other scandal he got big backlash from in 2011, and he tried to handle it in the best way he could and addressed it in the sbs “thank you” interview so genuinely that he almost cried. Imagine if YG wasn’t strict on them? All those hate comments he received would’ve resulted in something far worse. So yes, I agree that YG is in fact a genius.

Finally! I just wished you guys reacted to this BB TV series of their trainee days before you did Run, Bigbang Scout and Happy Together. This series offers more context of what the group talked about in those shows, their struggles and determination in breaking the Kpop idol stereotype. This series also showcases Hang Hyun Suk or YG, the genius behind BB who helped GD take the group, as well as his company, to the next level like no other. People who only heard part of the story about artists leaving the group don't know the other half of it. YG is painted as the bad guy but here you can see how he pushed for the boys to always be better than expected since he knows they got the potential. He had a vision to add more members rather than the original plan of a GDYB hip hop duo. The 6th member had to be shown because he was part of them albeit short lived. In the end, the group is officially announced and the episode might get you all teary-eyed too. This series is the 1st reality show to follow an idol group. Next was 2NE1 TV. Park Bom (before 2NE1's debut) was featured in at least 2 earlier BB songs (We Belong Together and Forever With You). In Korean society esp in the ent business they are very vocal with calling people ugly or fat. I have seen that so many times on music and variety shows. I am not sure if any one else mentioned this but Hyun Seung who did not debut with BigBang eventually debuted with the group Beast.

Thank you guys coz its my first time seeing a reaction about this. Many people of this gen don't know how they began, thinking that they already have silver spoons in them. They struggled a lot, criticized a lot bcoz of the so called 'idol standards. ' Who they are now, what they have are all bcoz of their hardwork, passion and determination chasing their dreams. They don't have that privilege coming from a big company, instead they did a lot to make it into what YGE is now. They are really the inspirations and motivation.

Seungri's love for Timberlake is serious and beside that all the other answers I am personally not that convinced though. LOL Like they've been asked about it many times especially after their debut like around 2006~2008 but I remember they were changing their answers everytime. I guess maybe Jay-Z, omarion, were simply very popular and influential in South Korea at the time so the company thought it would be cool just adding them in every member's profile. And Im pretty sure GD and TOP are more influenced by Wu-Tang, and Blackstreet, cause I remembered they've answered in some more serious interviews that they were neighbors at the time and were both having interests in HIPHOP and was Wu-Tang Clan's album that got them interested in this genre for the first place (but my memories can be wrong). And Ji loved Kanye, at least loved singing his song during 06~07 like I thought he knew all Kanye's song. and Dae liked Brian Mcknight. I could be wrong. The only thing I am pretty sure of is that Seungri absolutely loved and probably still loves Timberlake. Like he literally thinks Sexy Back is his own song (according to Ji).

Their leader Seo Taiji who was a former member of the rock band Sinawe and Yang met when the former came to YG to teach him how to dance. When YG was moved by Seo Taiji's music, he suggested to Seo Taiji that they should formed a group, then they recruited the well known dancer Lee Junno. Seo Taiji and Boys was the first kpop group to incorporate the western genres to Korean traditional music. But when the group was disbanded, YG founded YG Entertainment to continue Seo Taiji and Boys Legacy. That is the reason why YG was so strict when it comes to talent. Then YG formed his groups and artists and so on and so forth. Big Bang was the first mainstream hiphop idol group of Korea and the first boygroup who won Daesang from a small company. With this group, many idols like BTS aspire to become an idol especially BTS Jungkook and Jimin was inspired by Big Bang's Taeyang.
I'm so thankful you watch this documentary. It shows a lot of interesting things about their predebute days. They were desperate to debute. And they keep this passion from day 1. I became VIP since 2009. It’s the first time I visited Korea for their concert(and every year since then) The reason I felt in love with them is their live performances on the concert. Bigbang live concert is everything, please react some. (But don’t expect their choreography! 🤣)

Finally! I just wished you guys reacted to this BB TV series of their trainee days before you did Run, Bigbang Scout and Happy Together. This series offers more context of what the group talked about in those shows, their struggles and determination in breaking the Kpop idol stereotype. This series also showcases Hang Hyun Suk or YG, the genius behind BB who helped GD take the group, as well as his company, to the next level like no other. People who only heard part of the story about artists leaving the group don't know the other half of it. YG is painted as the bad guy but here you can see how he pushed for the boys to always be better than expected since he knows they got the potential. He had a vision to add more members rather than the original plan of a GDYB hip hop duo. The 6th member had to be shown because he was part of them albeit short lived. In the end, the group is officially announced and the episode might get you all teary-eyed too.
This series is the 1st reality show to follow an idol group. Next was 2NE1 TV. Park Bom (before 2NE1's debut) was featured in at least 2 earlier BB songs (We Belong Together and Forever With You). You will see lots of interaction with the other YG artists in 2NE1TV cuz the golden era had officially begun at that time. Watch WIN series after 2NE1 TV. The series shows the formation of both Winner and IKON. Also check out Epik High's music. The hip hop trio was also part of YG royal family. Tablo is a master lyricist like GD. YG saved his music career (victim of a Knets' witch hunt/false accusation). Watch Tomorrow featuring Taeyang (his comeback music from the scandal). He also did a dark English cover of Eyes, Nose, Lips with Taeyang singing the chorus also in English.
Fun Fact: The people in the meeting with YG are still with the company. The other 2 guys to the right are Jinu and Sean of Jinusean hip hop duo (also 1st gen). Same with the trainer.

Hyunseung later debuted in the group Beast in 2009 and then he left the group in 2016. The group is actually called Highlight now since they left Cube entertainment.
In Korean society esp in the ent business they are very vocal with calling people ugly or fat. I have seen that so many times on music and variety shows. I am not sure if any one else mentioned this but Hyun Seung who did not debut with BigBang eventually debuted with the group Beast.

But they weren’t great success since their debut . They struggled a lot . Their first 3 album won’t become any hit. Their first music rank show win was 1 year later . After GD wrote and produced the music since they become popular.

Thank you guys coz its my first time seeing a reaction about this. Many people of this gen don't know how they began, thinking that they already have silver spoons in them. They struggled a lot, criticized a lot bcoz of the so called 'idol standards. ' Who they are now, what they have are all bcoz of their hardwork, passion and determination chasing their dreams. They don't have that privilege coming from a big company, instead they did a lot to make it into what YGE is now. They are really the inspirations and motivation.

30:31 yes, Se7en is a soloist. His competiton then was Rain of jyp entertainment (bigbang vs 2pm, ikon & winner vs got7 and so on. The latter was shown in WIN survival show). Rain was better known in asia though bec he also had hit kdramas and movies.

Like they've been asked about it many times especially after their debut like around 2006~2008 but I remember they were changing their answers everytime.
I guess maybe Jay-Z, omarion, were simply very popular and influential in South Korea at the time so the company thought it would be cool just adding them in every member's profile. And Im pretty sure GD and TOP are more influenced by Wu-Tang, and Blackstreet, cause I remembered they've answered in some more serious interviews that they were neighbors at the time and were both having interests in HIPHOP and was Wu-Tang Clan's album that got them interested in this genre for the first place (but my memories can be wrong). And Ji loved Kanye, at least loved singing his song during 06~07 like I thought he knew all Kanye's song. and Dae liked Brian Mcknight. I could be wrong. The only thing I am pretty sure of is that Seungri absolutely loved and probably still loves Timberlake. Like he literally thinks Sexy Back is his own song (according to Ji).

Yang Hyunsuk was a member of the well known Seo Taiji and Boys. His position in that group was being a backup vocals, rapper and dance. Their leader Seo Taiji who was a former member of the rock band Sinawe and Yang met when the former came to YG to teach him how to dance. When YG was moved by Seo Taiji's music, he suggested to Seo Taiji that they should formed a group, then they recruited the well known dancer Lee Junno. Seo Taiji and Boys was the first kpop group to incorporate the western genres to Korean traditional music. But when the group was disbanded, YG founded YG Entertainment to continue Seo Taiji and Boys Legacy. That is the reason why YG was so strict when it comes to talent. Then YG formed his groups and artists and so on and so forth. Big Bang was the first mainstream hiphop idol group of Korea and the first boygroup who won Daesang from a small company. With this group, many idols like BTS aspire to become an idol especially BTS Jungkook and Jimin was inspired by Big Bang's Taeyang.

I became VIP since 2009. It’s the first time I visited Korea for their concert(and every year since then) The reason I felt in love with them is their live performances on the concert. Bigbang live concert is everything, please react some. (But don’t expect their choreography! 🤣)

That's why I love them. Their struggle is real. Even with all the ups and downs they've been through, they get up and rise again. And we're still waiting for their next rise rocking the world.
And sadly say, that is the harsh life of being wanna-be-idol trainees. They never know for sure of when they can debut. And even if they make it to debut, it's still unknown whether the audience will accept them. And even if people accept them, it's still unknown whether they can last long or not. And for those who really succeed and last long, they can't guarantee if all they have will satisfy them.
For us who see them from outside, all the wealth and fame are surely advantageous and amazing. But we'll never know for sure what they really feel inside...
