I can't believe that after dunking on Anonym and emphasizing his love of death in movies he missed one of THE best deaths I've seen in movies. The lights going off on the island, the manta ray glowing below Moana's canoe, the brightening of the stars that guided her.. It's chef's kiss and he missed it!
I disagree with all that he said, Dylan doesn't have to like a scene and it was seemingly an attempt at guilt-tripping so that he has a certain mentality.
Right lol like I wanted to see him react to that part so bad and he doesn’t even show it 😂😂😭 like he wasn’t wondering why all the lights went out and the GLOWING manta raw was following her the same thing the grandma said she was gonna turn into when she died 😂
In case you didn't realize, the reason why her grandma died was because she passed the heart to Moana. She was rlly old and the heart of te fiti was giving her life, so when she gave it to moana, her old age caught up with her.
being a dylan is in trouble fan is a combination of rewatching his past videos, forgetting he exists for a while, then being excited when he uploads again (on every Monday).
Fun fact about newborn turtles and the little ritual: a big thing that's always made clear is that if you're going to help them find the water, you absolutely cannot carry them there. They have to find it on their own. This scene is essentially how Moanas journey ends up going out on the ocean. She may have been pointed in the right direction, but ultimately she had to do it on her own.
Fun Fact: The woman who said "She's doing great." When Moana fixed the Coconut problem is actually the mother of Moana's voice actor. That's basically mother telling daughter she's proud of her 🥺
I’ve been dying of laughing this whole commentary, but when I tell you I LOST it at 15:00 with the singing along and “that one’s Brian!” 💀 it’s 1:30 am, you can’t do this to me Dylan, my fam are light sleepers 😂💀
Dylan if you’re reading this, remember that the Heart of Te Fiti has the power of life itself. The moment Grandma passed it to Moana, death came quickly for her. It’s implied that her lifespan wasn’t supposed to be as long as it was, and that the only reason she lasted as long as she did was because the power of the Heart was keeping her alive. If that part feels out of nowhere or sudden, it’s because Grandma was keeping the Heart safe for Moana until she was sure she understood her mission and was old enough to complete it. Because the second she gave the Heart up, she would die, and if she wasn’t absolutely sure Moana was mature enough to take it, then all hope of having someone from Motunui return it would be lost.
Regarding the body hair issue: Obviously Disney won't animate female characters with body hair cause *some* parents may lose their minds, but indigenous people tend to have less body hair than non-indiginous folks. At least that's the case for Amazonian tribes in South America. And in Mexico as well. Back in the 20th century, brown-ish, non-indiginous famous people from Latam would wear that body hair proudly to clear any rumors of them being indigenous. For example. Frida Kahlo
I don't know about armpits but as far as I know old egyptians got rid at least of hair on their legs, maybe with sugar paste as it is done in Hamams untill today.
I don’t think it’s a female thing I think it’s just an unnecessary thing to animate. If you look at the scene with the explorers the men don’t have armpit hair either. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure a woman having armpit hair would cause a fuss but if you’re animating a movie unless it’s like hyper realistic I highly doubt they’d add armpit hair
I don't know what killed me more: Dylan not seeing that Moana's grandmother was introduced as an old lady while Moana was a baby and didn't "predict" she was going to die later or the fact that after she was on her death bed he still thought that Moana was gonna save her and she would continue to live fruitful life.

also, the spacebar somehow inside of the disney browser just corresponds to pressing "enter", so basically, if the last thing you highlighted/clicked is "fullscreen" or "exit fullscreen", the spacebar will just repeat that action. If the last thing you clicked was "pause" or "unpause", then the spacebar would correspond accordingly. Is this terrible UI and UX design? Yes. Is this an oversight? Possibly, but a very stupid one, because in other browser based players, they always default the spacebar to only being binded to the pause and unpause function, whereas disney was dumb enough to not do that. And the unpausing and pausing for 1 frame might be caused by your keyboard's high refresh rate? because the player is registering 2 spacebar inputs when you only mean to input once.
The spacebar just repeats the last button you pressed. So if you want it to be pause, you have to manually press pause first. Is it dumb? Yes. Is it random? No

a couple of notes to add: 1. the reason she goes out at night is because the ancient polynesians used the stars to navigate, they were expert wayfinders and they never had written maps, only the night sky 2. that forehead touch is actually a nose touch, called a hongi, and you breathe in together as you do it. it's a greeting, kind of like a handshake but a bit more spiritual and respectful 3. moana literally means ocean (in te reo maori which is my frame of reference but also in other polynesian languages) which sounds nice as a name but makes all of the ocean stuff feel a bit on the nose lmao

real quick rant: so like with the rock tradition, it annoys me so much that she put a seashell there! i love the symbolism and all but you ever think how the next generations will have to like break it or just won’t be able to place anything on top of it. that has bugged me since i first watched it lol
I think it's a symbolic point, like they're returning to the sea after so long on land. It does effectively end the tradition, yes, but they're not staying on the island anymore so doubt it matters
I know what you mean, he gets me every time! I was planning on turning on subtitles so I could see when he mentions it. I be like, fvck it I'm too lazy to read! Which is why this comment is sponsored by Audible. If you're not a fan of reading, Audible has you covered...
Dylan's commitment to casual appreciation for not only milfs, but gilfs, solidifies him as an icon in my mind. This video's also trending. In gaming for some reason. 10/10
I had never thought of that but the moment when Moana gives advice on the crops dying and the fish lacking is crucial to the message of the movie : there's no easy fix to the environmental issues we're having / going to have, we have to completely alter our perception and relationship with nature : we see it as a sea of ressources we can just exploit but it's alive / it has a heart and it needs to be taken care of
Dylan being increasingly upset with Disney not having their space bar pause correctly on Disney+ is the funniest thing to me. It’s literally so bad I do not know why Disney does not have space bar=pause consistency I also love how he appreciated how badass Moana is at the end of the movie. Like, yeah, that scene with the water parting and Te Ka is really cool, I’m glad he acknowledged it as such.
I just love it, when you actually enjoy the movies/ shows you're watching. Your roasts are very funny, but these videos have very funny jokes too and it just makes me happy seeing you enjoy stuff!
Anyone else waiting Dylan to do the movie Brave. I have a feeling he'd really enjoy Brave, but you'll probaly need subtitles on. Fun fact Merida is the only Disney princess not to have a english accent.
12:08 I love how Dylan is so passionate about his "death is a cathartic experience for all cultures, therefore it's the most effective way to connect to any audience" agenda. Quite sweet of him ☺️
I always love watching people who didn’t grow up in a Polynesian country react to this film. Most islands have their own variations on Maui but I always found Te Fiti giving Maui a new fishhook funny cause -for me at least- I grew up with Maui’s fishhook being made from his grandmother’s jawbone. Tamatoa is voiced by a kiwi so you’re not entirely wrong about the British accent, but still not a Brit (I will forever maintain that kiwi accents exist somewhere on a spectrum between Tamatoa and Korg)
Okay I didn't realise that there was a group of people also called Kiwis, and I was really trying to figure out how he was voiced by either a bird or a fruit for a hot second there. It...wasn't my brightest moment...
That comment from “Anonym” has me absolutely in tears from laughing. They’re both so concerned yet reprimanding😂 But Dylan…choosing a sing along for a movie you’ve never watched…fucking insane😂 Also, your reaction to the space bar (which I agree with) never not funny!!!
I know this video is a month old but I have to say as soon as Maui asked the question of why the ocean didn't return the heart itself I had an answer(for me anyway). Maui was thrown away by his parents and accepted by the gods but never truely accepted himself and was always fighting for acceptance from the humans who abandoned him. Moana expresses similar traits to Maui in that respect by constantly trying to be what her family and villagers wanted/needed her to be(in their opinion). Maui betrayed the gods who saved him by stealing the heart for those same mortals. Moana, being in a similar situation by trying to please her family, was chosen to both grow as a person by accepting herself but to also show Maui how to accept himself and let others close enough and be vulnerable enough to be himself with them. Their journey not only saved everyone but also saved themselves by becoming who they were meant to be. There was also a bit of 'you broke it, you fix it but I'll give you some help' energy going on as well😉😂
I think we can always assume three things about Dylan: His never ending grudge with Disney+'s space bar, his thirst for violence, that he is TOTALLY not a GILF man(*wink wink nudge nudge*)
I don't know if anyone already commented on this but there is a theory that just before Moana got to Maui she died (she fell off her boat in the scene before with the storm) and became a demigod. That's why she was able to find Maui and speak to her dead grandmother. You'll also notice that Maui told her that he was thrown into the ocean (I presume he died then) and only after that did the gods find him and he became a demigod. Moana also dived to the bottom of the ocean after she gave the heart back to it just to retrieve it which would also probably be very hard if she were still human but not if she were a demigod.
I think that's possible, although I don't think Maui died when he was thrown in the sea. In the actual legend, he is cast into the ocean by his mother, but "Tangaroa's children" (fish, waves, etc.) keep him safe until he ends up back on the beach where his grandfather finds and raises him. I don't think he died then, but was gifted his powers by Tangaroa (god of the sea). Btw, this is just the version of the legend I was told, but it might be different in other cultures!!
Moana literally means ocean in Maori. Maui (I think the Maui represented here) actually birthed my country. With his hook made from a whales jawbone (I think, maybe it was his father's jawbone) he sailed to Aōtearoa (NZ) and pulled the North island up when he caught a huge fish. That's why in māori, the names of the islands are "te Ika(sp??) O Maui" and "the Waka o Maui" meaning the fish of Maui and the boat of Maui for the north and south islands respectively. And the reason the North island has so many hills is that when Maui told people about it, they started cutting bits of the fish up to eat and stuff. Māori culture is pretty interesting at alot of points. Also, the crabs accent is New Zealand. It's played by jamaine, from Flight of the Conchords and What we do in the Shadows.
It was his grandmother's jawbone actually! The South Island was the waka (canoe) but the more common Māori name for the South Island is Te Wai Pounamu, because of the precious greenstones (pounamu) found in the water (wai) there. There are also a lot of islands in Aotearoa that have mythology around being people lying down, e.g. Te Mata Peak.
@@joeypotter6051 Ahh, that's right. I havnt really learnt māori mythology since highschool, which kinda sucks cause I took it for 4 years and was quite a good speaker and could hold a conversation, but it's kinda like if you don't use it, you lose it.
@@azizcammioneur7311 Hey! No I'm not māori. Probably one of the few people left with like, 0, māori in me hahaha. But I know alot, I used to be able to speak it pretty well too.
For anyone who wants to know how Maui died (or the version of the myth I grew up with). Basically, dude wanted to get immortality for mankind, again a misguided "good" deed, and decided that the way to do this was to eat the heart of Hinenuitepo (translated to Maiden of the Night), the Goddess who guides people to the after life. To do this, he decided to climb up through her "whooha" (where life begins) and make his way to her heart (or out her mouth like some variations). He shape shifted into a lizard and began his journey well Hine slept, but he made the mistake of bringing his mates with him who were tui (bird). The bros decided to laugh at Maui, shocking Hine awake and causing her to slam her legs shut. And that's how Maui was killed, by thunder thighs.
21:15 Actually the idea that they were made for kids isn't really true. They are actually a part of Polynesian mythology 🤷🏾♀️ However they arnt coconuts but rather tiny people/human like creatures that are wearing the coconuts as armor. That inhabit the Solomon islands But they were definitely simplified for kids 🤷🏾♀️ so there's that

real quick rant: so like with the rock tradition, it annoys me so much that she put a seashell there! i love the symbolism and all but you ever think how the next generations will have to like break it or just won’t be able to place anything on top of it. that has bugged me since i first watched it lol
honestly. same.
I think it's a symbolic point, like they're returning to the sea after so long on land. It does effectively end the tradition, yes, but they're not staying on the island anymore so doubt it matters
This man will never cease to amaze me in the way he randomly brings in Audible.
it’s a talent
yeah like we all expect it to happen but you never know when. You enjoy the content, forget about it and then boom 💥 audible 💥 😂

The amount of joy and happiness Dylan got at 13:16 when he thought the pig was going to die was the most genuine reaction I've ever seen
LITERALLY
And his disappointment when the pig didn’t lol 😂
thats what i was gonna say🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Too bad he completely missed the joke about eating pork.
I coughed on my apple cider lmao

The series got no update at D23
It's rumoured to have been cancelled

Omg she is!!?
What I love about your reactions is that you voice all the intrusive thoughts I keep in while watching movies 🤣

This commentary has everything from wishing death to children to GILFS 10/10
😂😂
Beautiful
Dylan's commitment to casual appreciation for not only milfs, but gilfs, solidifies him as an icon in my mind. This video's also trending. In gaming for some reason. 10/10
I had never thought of that but the moment when Moana gives advice on the crops dying and the fish lacking is crucial to the message of the movie : there's no easy fix to the environmental issues we're having / going to have, we have to completely alter our perception and relationship with nature : we see it as a sea of ressources we can just exploit but it's alive / it has a heart and it needs to be taken care of
oh damn thats a really good realization thanks for sharing
It's Disney. Of course there is supposed to be a moral.
rt
“When it comes to predicting the most predictable lines in the movie, there’s not anyone better than me” 😂
I love how half of the time Dylan is getting mad over how Disney keeps killing off parents but then he always hopes all the characters die
Dylan being increasingly upset with Disney not having their space bar pause correctly on Disney+ is the funniest thing to me. It’s literally so bad I do not know why Disney does not have space bar=pause consistency
I also love how he appreciated how badass Moana is at the end of the movie. Like, yeah, that scene with the water parting and Te Ka is really cool, I’m glad he acknowledged it as such.
the space bar only pauses if the last thing you did with the cursor was pause or resume the show/movie
Sometimes, it pauses AND minimises at the same time for me. It's too annoying
Dylan moaning to grandma's bars HAHAHSHHAHA
😭
I just love it, when you actually enjoy the movies/ shows you're watching. Your roasts are very funny, but these videos have very funny jokes too and it just makes me happy seeing you enjoy stuff!
26:18 the way he says “yeeted into the ocean”😂😂
Dylan, you've been hiding your musical talent from us this whole time? I'm gonna need every disney movie to be a sing-along from now on
God please no

I wish Dylan didn't cut out the part where Moana's grandma died. Her reincarnating as a stingray is such an underrated scene.
I honestly don't think he realised she died. He later says that he is still hoping she survives. I believe he was in a state of denial.
Dylan didn't dislike Grandma enough to wish for her death, it seems
@@commentsforthealgorithm1740 the gilf energy was too much for him😔
yea honestly i dont think he understood that she died
Got a stingray tattoo because of this scene and the other one where grandmas ghost visits Moana 😄👌🏼

I'm so happy he appreciates Auli'i Cravalho's performance, she did such an amazing job and she was only like 14-15 when she worked in this movie

Anyone else waiting Dylan to do the movie Brave. I have a feeling he'd really enjoy Brave, but you'll probaly need subtitles on. Fun fact Merida is the only Disney princess not to have a english accent.
I love it when Dylan trolls people who get offended by him and then use it as an underlying theme in a sponsorship ad. Amazing. 😂👏👏👏
Gotta love how Dylan always mixes up New Zealand, Australian and British accents
Tbh, I mix those up too sometimes.
Also the time he called the British coach in She’s the man “Russian guy” the whole time.
Who doesn't
I’ve been watching Dylan for years and somehow his Audible ads catch me off guard every time. It’s pretty impressive.
I was looking for this kind of comment
It was so smooth everytime
Oh my goodness when se parts the Ocean and sings I get chills and tears every time. Such a beautiful moment in the film!
Commenter: "Dylan you must be a psychopath"
Disney Plus: "Well we are trying to help him on his way"
Dylan completely missing the grandmas death right at the beginning is hilarious
12:08 I love how Dylan is so passionate about his "death is a cathartic experience for all cultures, therefore it's the most effective way to connect to any audience" agenda. Quite sweet of him ☺️
He needs to review Step Up - child death is in the movie
Moana is always amazing, and your commentary made it even better! I wasn't even mad about the 10000th Audible sponsor!

Most kiwis actually have a soften accent very different from a British one 🤣 not everyone has a deep accent like tamatoa and korg but some do.
kiwi and aussie accents (well soft accents) are similar in my ear. i could have sworn the crab what aussie
No one cares 😂
Okay I didn't realise that there was a group of people also called Kiwis, and I was really trying to figure out how he was voiced by either a bird or a fruit for a hot second there. It...wasn't my brightest moment...

Watching Dylan slowly lose his mind over the Disney spacebar is honestly the best part of every Disney reactions.
That comment from “Anonym” has me absolutely in tears from laughing. They’re both so concerned yet reprimanding😂
But Dylan…choosing a sing along for a movie you’ve never watched…fucking insane😂

There was also a bit of 'you broke it, you fix it but I'll give you some help' energy going on as well😉😂
24:47 🤣 Dylan is the best
I think we can always assume three things about Dylan: His never ending grudge with Disney+'s space bar, his thirst for violence, that he is TOTALLY not a GILF man(*wink wink nudge nudge*)
and that he always uploads on time
Cough cough Ursula
I don't know if anyone already commented on this but there is a theory that just before Moana got to Maui she died (she fell off her boat in the scene before with the storm) and became a demigod. That's why she was able to find Maui and speak to her dead grandmother. You'll also notice that Maui told her that he was thrown into the ocean (I presume he died then) and only after that did the gods find him and he became a demigod. Moana also dived to the bottom of the ocean after she gave the heart back to it just to retrieve it which would also probably be very hard if she were still human but not if she were a demigod.
Woah, that’s a solid theory
I think that's possible, although I don't think Maui died when he was thrown in the sea. In the actual legend, he is cast into the ocean by his mother, but "Tangaroa's children" (fish, waves, etc.) keep him safe until he ends up back on the beach where his grandfather finds and raises him. I don't think he died then, but was gifted his powers by Tangaroa (god of the sea).
Btw, this is just the version of the legend I was told, but it might be different in other cultures!!
There is a "the protagonist actually dies halfway through" theory about every single movie. They almost always miss.
Maybe what happened to Moana then is similar to Maui. The demigod theory still holds up, just without the death.
I absolutely love the rant about insects! It’s about time someone said that.
The fact that we can't survive without insects while he is saying otherwise is itching my brain 🤣
Thank you for the added info! Are you Maori? I love Moana. Such a well-done movie.
Bro
best way to go tbh
I think it was pīwakawaka, not tūī, at least that's the version I've always heard. :)
Maui last words: Holy fuck. Holy fucking fuck. That body of yours is absurd

Actually the idea that they were made for kids isn't really true.
They are actually a part of Polynesian mythology 🤷🏾♀️
However they arnt coconuts but rather tiny people/human like creatures that are wearing the coconuts as armor. That inhabit the Solomon islands
But they were definitely simplified for kids 🤷🏾♀️ so there's that
can you explain the nutshell thing? 33:11
I've gotten so used to Dylan's commentary style that now when I watch something from a lot of other reaction channels I'm always like "Why aren't they saying anything? They're just sitting there silently and making faces...hello??"
