Ugh yes, this is a perpetual problem! If they’re home and just not listening (like screaming for candy when they can’t have it), explain calmly and let them cry. Sometimes they need to let out emotions and sometimes they need to learn that tantruming won’t change the rules! But if something else seems to be going on or they tip into distress, offer a hug or even just sit quietly near them. If it’s in public, take them to the car to cool down. Sometimes just the threat of leaving the playground, game, etc. nips the behavior when it’s a power struggle and not a meltdown!
