Can’t wait to get outta work and learn this one. Thanks for posting. In my opinion, Steaming Steve Clark laid down one of the BEST riffs in rock/metal history on this tune.
You definitely have the best lessons for the songs you do I can learn them pretty quickly by using your videos . Thanks for helping me play the songs I love !
As always your playing is great. I'm always floored at the large selection of guitars you have. You have good taste in guitars and music (at least in my estimation). Sometimes simple(er) riffs /solos can provide the right amount of glue to a song - and such is the case with Photograph. I've always enjoyed Phil Collen 's playing (at least I think he did this solo). I last saw him in the upper east side of NYC playing in G3 (Satriani, Pettruci, and Collen). Of course Satriani and Petruci are amazing, but I can easily tire of pure speed. Give me a memorable riff maker any day.
Thanks bro! As for Phil Collen, I always wondered how he fared playing alongside those guys at G3, since he's less technical. Regardless, I'm with you - I can only listen to technical wizardry for so long before I want to hear an actual song, and I'd rather here a memorable solo like Photograph which fits the song, over someone just throwing in a million notes for the sake of showing off :)
Hey PDX man. You're the best on RUclips when it comes to breaking it down. I'd really dig if you could teach us a really bad ass song from Fastway called " Telephone".
You go Dave rocking some Def Leppard. Pyromania is a great album so many great songs on it .Great job as usual my friend 👍 One of my favorite songs from them is Bringin on the Heartbreak from the High n Dry album . The solo part is simple but at the same time its has such a great feel to it.These type of solos are the more memorable ones in my opinion. Steve Clark was the man he was the heart n soul of that band. Anyway on that note ,ROCK ON BRO!👊👍🎸😎 P.S . maybe u can do that one for ur viewers. Just a thought.
Hey Sotirios! Thanks for the great comment. Pyromania was the album that got me into Def Leppard. It was hard not to be impacted by it at the time if you were into rock, right? Bringin on the Heartbreak was great too. I will consider that solo too! :)
@@PDXguitarfreak Yes absolutely. The guitar harmonies in the beginning of the song are great. I played it with my guitar tech n it sounded awesome. I learned how to play that song a long time ago still have it under my wing. I'm sure your viewers would love to learn it if they are into some old school Def Lep. 👊👍🎸😎
Hi Greg, thanks for the request. I definitely plan on mixing in some easier stuff. Some of the easier ones I already have on my channel including the following: Wanted Dead or Alive, Jessie's Girl, Smoke on the Water, Living on a Prayer, Stairway to Heaven, Diary of a Madman, Rosanna, Hit Me With Your Best Shot. More to come! :)
Great lesson Freak but to really capture that Phil Collen tone and vibe you gotta be Shirtless! 🤘🤘 Standard tuning? Now I'm worried it's much simpler to not to tune it..... LOL
Started watching this video and noticed that you seemed to slide your thumb back as you applied vibrato to the highlighted notes..I have been having trouble with doing this sort of vibrato correctly..in your opinion favorite video guitar freak, does sliding back help before vibrato/ Dumb question, I know..but it caught my interest.
That's an interesting observation, Marty. I never noticed that I do that... probably because I really don't think about it, and just do what feels natural... but regardless I just picked up a guitar to try and analyze it. Most of the time when I bend, all of the motion is coming from the wrist/hand, and not the finger that is fretting the string. I pretty much keep the finger locked in stationary position (after fretting), and use the wrist/hand to do the bend motion (although the finger comes into play sometimes as helping with the bend motion, but not much). Therefore, the natural motion of moving or pivoting from the wrist, causes my thumb to slide back a little. I hope that makes sense.
@@PDXguitarfreak It does I tried it and my thumb was doing the same thing..lol..I am really enjoying the Def Leppard videos..but that George Lynch tutorial was awesome!
For years I played to this song and the out of tune thing baffled me. After awhile I figured it wasn’t me because I would tune my guitar perfectly and then the song would clash against it. At that point my brain said Def Leppard done fucked up. And it still kicks ass.
You are welcome! As for key of the solo, it's E Major. The chords behind the solo are E, B, A, and sometimes people play them as major chords, or just power chords.
I think you explain the nuances of this solo better than any other teacher. Thanks for the lesson!
Thank you, Mike! :)
Great lesson! Don’t get why anyone would dislike it.

Indeed! Thanks, Mike! :)
Wow, all this time I thought I was playing it right. Thanks again for explaining all the little nuances Dave!!!
You are welcome man! :)
Excellent breakdown of the solo for guitar dummies like me! Thank you for this lesson!
I'm a beginner guitarist and have to play this solo in concert soon. Thank you so much for the excellent analysis!

I saw them open for Billy Squire in 83. Great show!
Duuuude! Thank You!!! I’ve always wanted to learn that correctly. You fn Rock! Made my day!
Thanks!
Best lesson for this solo I seen
Thanks for pointing out the way that Phil plays it live. Spot on man...spot on.

nice playing, i really liked the voicing on the "14" full / (1/2) / full bend ("5:48" - section 5).
Thanks! I love the phrasing there too. Simple but effective :)
Awesome lesson and appreciate the detail
More Def Leppard, more White Lion and more hair metal in general please! I really enjoy the 80s metal solos.
Awesome details great video! Please keep them coming!

LOL, thanks double D! 20 years ago, I would have definitely gone shirtless, but these days even if I suck in the gut, it's not good enough LOL
Nice! Hey!...How about "What You Give Is What You Get " by Ratt?
Hi PDX man, can I request "Hurt so bad" by Linda rondstat?
How about doing a Terry Kath solo? 25 or 6 to 4 would be awesome.
Yeah that is an epic solo... would make a really long lesson though LOL :)
