very useful! one little note when you mention that Hassan and Ali are sent away, if you re-read that chapter you'll find that Ali learns about the rape and then wants to leave on his own accordance stating that he doesn't want to stay anymore.
to add onto that, baba actually excused hassan for ‘stealing’ the watch and begged them to stay - even though earlier in the novel he told amir that thieving is the worst kind of sin - because he doesn’t believe that hassan actually did it :)
4:58 they aren't sent away. they leave on their own accord. and also at that point it's implied that Ali knows what happened to Hassan and how Amir didn't help him
@@sharanyap3057 the book is absolutely amazing and even though this video is extremely helpful it leaves out a lot of Important details that you must read to know.
Brilliant summary and explanation of themes the novel has. It saves a lot of time of people preparing for competitive exams. I'm grateful to you for this.
Just to let you know, Hassan and Amir weren't kicked out the house. Baba forgave them but Amir and Hassan decided to leave even though baba insisted them to stay.
Lovely, I ended up reading this story on my own and I'm just hoping that someone one of these days does a passionate literary in depth analysis on the book because it's such a good story (mainly because it makes me cry XD)
I picked this book up at a thrift store and reading it, I shed tears. I don't want to spoil anyone who hasn't read the book; but it is moving and heartbreaking and haunting,
Agreed - it's extremely moving and haunting! You should consider also reading his other book, "A Thousand Splendid Suns". If you loved this book, you will adore this follow up novel.
It's very helpful. Thank you..&one little note that one of the bullying boy or the antagonist in the "Kite Runner "named as Assef. He is half paston &so, he had a contempt to Hassan from childhood. Also he is half German, so he had a violence like Hitler.
Husseini is a pashtun writing the voice of a Hazara whom the pashtuns see as enemies and inferior. It is like if a white man writes the voice of Hassan as a black person. All the powerful characters are pashtuns and all the submissive, naive are hazaras. I dont know how people would feel if a white man wrote a novel today about black people and painting them as submissive, flat, lame, hare-lipped, no sense of changing their situation? This is the most horrifyingly one sided novel I have ever read. since it is written for the western audience who know nothing about the Hazara-Pashtun history, they assume to see Pashtun as rounded characters (heroic, bad, savior, kind, rebels etc..) while Hazaras as nothing but submissive, accepting and naive... The reality is far from that. In fact, Hazaras are porportionally more educated in the country. Husseini as a Pashtun is obviously biased and harbours tacit and subconscious racism.
Khaled Hosseini tells us a vivid and engaging story that reminds us of how long his people have been fighting to triumph over the forces of violence, forces that continue to threaten them even today. Niiiiice👏👏👏 But ali amd hassan were not sent away ali decided that they should go because of the rape and what amir did Suhrab tries to suicide not because what happened to him in afghanistan but because ir said that he will leave him in an orphanage and came back to get him
Afghanistan is in Central Asia, not the Middle East. Also, the suggestion that Amir is a symbol of Afghanistan is too simplistic and reductive. Your recap of the historical context is full of errors. The king was not backed by the USSR. Otherwise, not bad.
The author of the book attempts to explain ethnicity problems in Afghanistan. Baba iconizes Pashtun and Hasan iconizes Hazara, the two ethnic groups in Afghanistan. But that main point is missing in this summary! Mohammad Daud was a fascist oriented Afghan. When Asef quotes him, the author tries to explain that Afghans treat Hazaras the way German Fascists treated Jews.
The 1960s wasn't a great time for all in Afghanistan. There was a lot of descrimination. My grandparents could barely get water due to the goverment restriction based on their ethnicity.
