Plot
Two nuns from a French convent arrive in a small Connecticut town with a plan to build a children's hospital. They enlist the help of several colorful characters in achieving their dream including a struggling artist, a popular songwriter, and a renowned racketeer.
In memoriam of Sister M. Estelle OSB. My aunt and very traditional humble sister who was old school and who was very much loved and appreciated for her teachings and instruction. She only wore the traditional habit and prayed the brievery every day. She had a special devotion to Mother Mary. And attended and cherished the traditional Latin Mass. We miss her dearly. Along with my mother and father. Lord bless 🙏 their souls. Peace and joy and blessings at Christmas 🎄🙏⬆️🕯️🕊️
I love the innocence of the old days when nuns were kind and loving and could charm the heart of a mob boss and whose faith could move mountains. I genuinely laughed at the reactions of the entire cast to those nuns of boundless faith and trust in God to answer their prayers. Good movie!
A wonderful Christmas story. Never get in the way of a nun on a mission!
As a senior citizen I’ve watched this movie for many years and I never get tired of it! There isn’t a movie with Loretta Young and Celeste Holm that isn’t worth watching, they were both unique actresses! The opening scene of the movie always gives me chills, it feels like you’re in heaven!
Wishing everyone a Blessed and Merry Christmas! 🙏🎄
Merry Christmas 🎄✨🤍God bless!🙏💫Aloha🌺
Merry Christmas to all. I was named after Loretta Young!
@@lpperrone Nice for you. I’ve always thought Loretta was such a pretty name.
The Bishops Wife ! Fabulous film has Carey Grant and David Niven too
Don't you miss the "f" word, sex scenes, blood flows from violence, etc.?
What a soul stirring movie. Comes like a breath of fresh air. Can be watched not only by senior citizens like me.
Excellent, excellent excellent. This movie made me cry. It reminded me of when I was growing up. Growing up and going to a private Catholic school was one of the happiest times. You were with God. People were good. Everybody created equal. Sister Francis Caprini.
Such a beautiful movie. Its a shame that this level of movies are no longer made. Thank you
I watched this with my mother every Christmas growing up in the 50’s. I had a Parochial School eduction with nuns every year, it was the best, My classmates were all really nice children. The teachers did a really good job preparing us for life.
how very fortunate for you and us hearing about that now. Kindness decency humble service we haven't got that as much anymore.
@@celesteadeanes4478 I am so ashamed of the Catholic Church now, I stopped going after the pastor and associate at the parish where we were going were caught having gay sex parties with young men. It was all over the TV what happened. A few days after that hit the news I saw the pastor out trying to buy toys for kids at a discount and he had a face full of makeup, eye shadow, blush and red lipstick. I knew I never liked him but I didn’t know how bad he really was. It was my husband who really was adamant that we had to go to church but we changed parishes and my husband died from cancer and I completely stopped going because I found out how much immorality was going on all over. I couldn’t stand to be preached at by hypocrites. They were such phonies. There are a few good ones but this pope is getting rid of the good guys. I am so sad how they have humiliated and degraded the church. I wish I knew a good place to go. I had such a nice childhood, I was born after WWII was over and my father came home from the Navy and quickly married my mother. He told me he was at the Battle of Midway and he was afraid he wouldn’t make it home and he prayed everyday to live through it and make it home to his girlfriend (my future mother). It seemed to me that all of the families were happy to just be alive and to be enjoying a simple life. We had small houses, plain food, simple pleasures like drive-in movies and television and family time. I could walk to school or to the grocery store and not be in danger. Children could play outside and parents didn’t fear they would be kidnapped. I wished I knew why the world changed so much.
@@celesteadeanes4478. Yes I know I was really very lucky, I wished we could turn the clock back and relive those days and simpler times. It looks like you are blessed with the beautiful name of Celeste. How very lucky you are.
Obstacles, struggles, hardships... persistence, dedication, trust in tbe divine intervention... blessings!
One of my favorites. A simple story of faith and determination. Beautiful.
This is a charming, heartwarming movie! Too bad they don’t make movies like this anymore!!!
I like to watch this every Christmas. It’s a wonderful heartwarming movie. Thank you for bringing it to the masses. ❤️
My pleasure!
I enjoy more than "IT's a GOOD LIFE"
There are few films that can be called wonderful decades later. This is one.
I am not religious but I love this film and also the song of bernadette and the bishop's wife !
I love them all, too, but it wouldn't be Christmas without The Bishop's Wife! 🌟
Everyone also needs to watch and listen to Bishop Fulton J. Sheens re-runs. Such great instruction and lectures. I always learn from his programs, which used to be on regular TV back in the day. It was called " Life is Worth Living ". Now occasionally aired on EWTN. Bishop Sheen, please pray 🙏 for us. Amen. Resquiat en pace. +

It was bad enough that I had to watch him every Sunday night and write a report the first time!!
And The Bells of St. Mary!
Song of Bernadette is amazing! Come back to the Catholic Church. Our Lord is waiting for you!
Our nuns took our classes into NYC to see THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD and THE LIFE OF ST.FRANCIS. Our nuns were the sweetest Sisters.
Order of ST. DOMINIC, Order of Preachers, they taught Choir and Gregorian Chants as in this film.❤
WHOA! "Don't know, Boss; all of them nuns look alike to me!" 😆
That was the comedy part of the movie!
A very IRONIC line of dialogue for the black actor at the time this movie was made. Most viewers miss the irony.
Whether Christmas, or throughout the year, a movie that is heartwarming. Just wrap it up and watch anytime.
Never admit defeat and never stop believing in the power of prayer and GOD.
Perfect Perfect Perfect movie for Christmas even those who dont believe will feel the sweetest surender to this movie of joy..Merry Merry..Merry Christmas ❤🙏
Merry Christmas
Beautiful movie
All I did was watching this movie was I cried.... Oh how having a small faith could move the mountains
Great movie. Loretta Young is my childhood hero and Celest Holm is , of course, wonderful also. What memories and a great way to start the New Year. Thx
An absolute delight! I've loved this film since I first saw it on TV as a small child.
Love this film! Loretta Young was a beautiful woman and talented.
What a delight!!!! They just don't make movies like this anymore?
Sweetly touching.
Elsa Lanchester! People only remember her as the bride of Frankenstein, but she is so good in so many movies.
Lanchester was a hoot as Anne of Cleves to (her husband) Charles Laughton’s King Henry VIII.
Not I! I grew up watching her as Jessica Marbles in "Murder by Death"
Wow, what a beautiful story!!
Thank you for a wonderful movie. As a cradle Catholic of 72 years, it is the first time I remember seeing this film!
Beautiful touching movie. The Sisters had Faith and trusting in God.❤
Lovely movie, this is a gem!
Thanks!!
Very inspiring film. As a Christian, it is difficult to understand why film something like this can not be made today. Many films are so vulgar, not even "Devils" would watch them. Of course, actresses like Lareta Young are difficult to find, but they do exist. COME on Hollywood, find an "Angel" to back inspiring decent films...CGI and special effects are NOT needed, just a good story that appeals to deep religious feelings.
Celeste Holm was very sweet in this film👍🏻🙏🏻❤️
Sniff ... sniffle .... Must be my allergies acting up, right at the end of this great movie. Where's the darn Kleenex when you need one. Thank you Fox studios & RUclips.
I'm crying because the essential part of the Film, at the end , was MISSING. So we have to GUESS how the Sisters secured the Building from Bob..... Ridiculous
O thank goodness, thought I was the only one who noticed!! Reading thru the above comments, it seems no one else noticed, cared, or somehow the movie appeared to them in its entirety! Ya I’d like to know what transpired between them to get that much-needed change of mind...or heart!!
Thank you! Merry Christmas! Blessed Happy New year! Happy Holidays! 💜🌹🎄🌟🕊
Merry Christmas! and happy new year!
Merry Christmas,
Merry Christmas, Mary Catherine, and have a blessed, healthy and prosperous New Year.
Truly remarkable and well written movie, reflecting the power of faith and patience and kindness in the Lord meets us when we meet him in small ways to turn into big ways in our lives. I am so moved by this movie. I can’t hardly speak. This is not some thing of the past. This is something that is still valid and true of today’s time, if people would just allow it to be a part of their lives. We have amazing people that work behind the scenes through their face to make miracles happen through God works and hands, and it all starts with something small like a tire that blows out and put you in just the right spot… Or in my case, some thing, very rare than usual that landed me in the hospital for almost a year, but allowed me to meet amazing people, and changed my life forever. Don’t ever stop believing and keeping your eyes pointing upward, for God truly does exist when he truly does perform small and large miracles every day….. if you just have the courage to believe😇🙏😇🙏
❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
Superstition. Read the Bible.
This film is absolutely beautiful and its message transposes any religion or beliefs.
Both Loretta Young and Celeste Holm were amazing in their performances!
Elsa Lancaster presented a lovely and understated performance ❤

Beautiful picture and inspiring
Beautiful
Thank you,
Thank you too!
So inspirational! Love it!
I bought this movie many years ago, love this movie.
The dream of a comfortable and easy living cannot last. But things made out of true sacrifice may not only endure milenia like the stone cathedrals scathered through france to the wonder and amazement even of the passing tourist. Eternity may prove even more wondrous about the smallest sacrifice of love. I cannot but be absolutelly sure of it. God bless.
I have never heard of this movie. It was a nice movie to watch on Christmas Eve. Thank you
Thanks for sharing😁👍🏽, it was so nice and clear. ❤

I have never seen this. Wonderful!
I discovered this movie about 3 years ago What a gem of a movie❤
I do not believe I ever saw it. If I did it was decades ago and long forgotten.
Totally beautiful movie.
It gave my heart great joy, to imagine my God performing those great acts for real.
My God is the God of the Impossible. 😀🥰
I have such joy in my heart right now. I thank you Lord for putting this in my path today! When I asked for you for Joy this morning, I had no idea it would be this great. I have missed joy in my life and so desperately needed it.
Love this movie
When the decency production code was forced in place. Gloria in excelsis Deo and Ave Maria!
Well am not a senior citizen...and I loved how it brought different parts of society together... beautifully made picture..it will go down as one of my top 5 favorites. Jac
This is my first time watching this movie, it won't be my last. 😇

I've never seen this! Thank you so much, going on my favorites list!
I enjoyed this so much!❤🧡💚💙💜
Nicely done. When the Holy Spirit is at work, it is indeed an unstoppable force.
One of my favorite movies!
Beautiful
How interesting that some years later, in 1962, Danny Thomas founded a children's hospital and named it St. Jude's Children's Hospital, just like the one in this movie. It was because of a promise he made to St. Jude when the saint helped him at a low point in his early career.
This is so inspiring and a joy to.. dedication of those nuns sets an amazing example.. and I loved all the characters and the jazz songs were beautiful too .. whoever put this together.. thanks you 💕💕💕💕and thanks God 💕💕🙏🙌
It when you chopped the last 3 scenes of the movie. It's sure a lot different.
This missing scene is online: note the original runtime is 94 minutes, so this one is missing about a minute. Around the 1:29:40 mark, you can head over to the Internet Archive, which has the full movie (but low resolution) and watch the minute of dialogue. Essentially, the sisters exit, run into Masen, and the conversation that takes place closes out an arc and helps to open his heart to the sisters. It's an important moment, so it's a shame it's missing.
Just google "come to the stable internet archive" and skip to the 1 hr 29 mark, watch it, then return here for the sharper, louder version
A significant part at the end is cut out... anyone watching this for the first time won't know what changed. ❤️🙏
Any ideas where to find it?
Im so glad you said this. Never saw this before and it seemed to be missing a chunk at the end. He walks to the church and all of a sudden they have their hospital. ??
@@dkearl6827 Netflix & Vudu still have it. God Bless. ❤️🙏
It's so obvious that it's cut!
Yes it's true. The film is 94 minutes, and this one is missing about a minute, which a good bit of dialogue. Around the 1:29:40 mark, you can head over to the Internet Archive, which has the full movie (but ridiculously low resolution) and watch the minute of dialogue. Essentially, the sisters exit, run into Masen, and the conversation that takes place closes out an arc and helps to open his heart to the sisters. It's actually kind of an important moment, so it's a shame it's missing.
Just google "come to the stable internet archive" and skip to the 1 hr 29 mark, watch it, then return here for the sharper, louder version.
Lovely movie! Merry Christmas!
Same to you!
Loved it ❤❤❤
Beautiful movie! Great performances, inspiring theme! Thank you for posting!
Welcome!
Delightful! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you too!
Thanks Psalm 15&18 🎄😊 Praying 🎄 😊 🙏 😊😊
Thank you
Welcome!
Classic movie❤🎉😂. Thank you for
I love this movie
I think I missed something. At 1:29:45 the scene is Bob looking in the Chapel at all the nuns singing. Then instantly the chapel is empty and the two sisters are speaking with him telling whatever action he will take will be “pleasing to God.” What action? I anticipating that he would find out he was in France during the War in the same place the sisters were. His heart would fill and he’d give them the $500. I’ve played it back twice but still the same.
MIssing 2 minutes. You have to find the full video elsewhere, like at your library or Amazon.
I know, the main part and it’s cut out.
The acting of the incredible cast, along with the humor, humanity makes this journey by faith, a pleasure and a great inspiration.
Wait…the ending isnt included? why oh why? well…I cant watch a movie where i dont get to know the ending!
@@thunderousapplausethe Sisters got the temporary building, the land and support. That was the end of the movie. The hospital is where the Mass was said. The temporary home of St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
Thanks
What a delightful movie 🥰
Too bad the ending was cut off😢
Anthony is the funniest character in the movie. He knows how to give the most direct indirect answers. What’s that? A duck.
What’s wrong with the dog?
He must’ve seen a squirrel.
What’s that racket?
That’s a bell.
He knows how to finagle. Better than any politician.
Agreed, he was hilarious. Every single character here was cast perfectly, it's astounding work. Btw, Anthony is played by Dooley Wilson who's the famous piano player in Casablanca
