    in the example of 8:17 if we put x=-1 what we get is -7>-4 so i think it doesn't include negative infinity, right?

    • @bipitybop
      @bipitybop 4 года назад +11

      I was really confused on that as well, however I figured it out! What is the absolute value of -7? It's going to be positive 7 correct? And in that case, positive 7 is greater than -4. Remember, absolute value is always going to be the distance from 0. So you can plug in any number on the positive/negative scale and you'll get a positive answer. If we say x=-100, you'd get -403. What's the absolute value of -403? It's going to be positive 403! Not sure if you were still stuck on this or not, but I hope this clarifies. This a great question, maybe he can add a little note to the video to explain that part. I think he just assumed people would understand.

    1:10 , I was always told with inequalities that you must switch the sign on an inequality when multiplying/dividing anything on the right side. Can someone explain why you don’t do this here?

    • @zayan5128
      @zayan5128 2 месяца назад +2

      you must switch the sign only if the thing you multiply divide is negative. Eg, 4>2. Divide b/s by 2, => 2>1, which is correct. Now take it again, 4>2, this time divide by -2, => -2>-1, which is false, hence you switch the sign.

    Negative numbers only work if they’re on the outside multiplying the absolute value. Then you can have the expression be less than -3
