I've been in the hobby for 30 years. Only ever used a skimmer very occasionally, temporarily for specific reasons. I don't run any mech filtration on my current build, bare bottom, and my accropora are loving life. Its a good clean tank. I get sick and tired of telling new starters to switch the skimmer off in their 6 week old tank with rocks water and a couple of clownfish, there seems to be an assumption that they need to be ran 24/7 from day 1 and are a blanket solution for every tank.
I agree buddy. I'm actually running the Paletta method on my new build. The tank I currently use it on is heavily stocked and not many coral, hence the lack of nutrient uptake, it is an essential element of my build for that tank. I agree, sadly people are advised to pick up a skimmer when they set up but, in reality they really don't need one for a few months. Very similar to running carbon in the early stages. Thanks for watching matey, appreciate it!
@TheYorkshireReefer yeah I was running this method around 2000. I run my own variant today. Rather than using miracle mud through, I just let Detritus settle in my fuge and have PNS bacteria break it down, nutrients then become available for other microbes and feed my coral. I also use live sponge in my sump to polish my water. I feed them with spirulina, which also settles in the fuge. The spirulina also acts as a floculent. My tank is crystal, and it looks like I use ozone. However, in reality, it's a soup of micro plankton. I can raise or lower NO3 on a dime just by reducing or increasing my fuge lights. It's a fun system. I dose easy reef phyto too. Love the stuff as I've cultured copepods and phyto for years, and it's a PITA. This way, I can throw a bag on a dose head and forget about it for 6 months. This tank is only 12 months old atm but I'm definitely doing a video myself about the approach once it's grown out.
Mine ran fine until i treated for cyno turned it off for treatment . Switched it back on and it just overflows now matter how i adjust it looks like i added shampoo 😅. Tirned it back off and running carbon hope it settles down its driving me mad
Hi mate! No, Andy is really busy with the shop and on hiatus. We will be back! I've just added other socials to the Yorkshire Reefer for 2024 - RUclips will give more in depth videos whereas Instagram is mostly for shorts 🙌
The silence... Oh, the silence of a Nyos Skimmer... ❤❤❤
(Off topic: Damn, man! U're so 🔥!!)
Like that skimmer just got a Magtool for the Fluval 32.5

Will you be doing follow-up on how it is running? And how it compares to your old bubble magus? Good video…keep it up.
Thank you Chris, I appreciate the feedback.
I absolutely will - I'll probably update in 6 weeks or so!
If need any help with setting it up hit me up
