Absolutely incredible control of her stunning voice. Cancer of any type at any age is horrific, but it seems so much worse when people have tremendously shortened lives because of it. Thank you William, I had never heard her beautiful voice before, this is a lovely memorial to her ❤.
This was Patricia at her most beautiful, most playful, most brilliant. She showed personality, not just an amazing voice. I miss her so much. Still devastated. Can't believe it. It seems her death has affected a lot of people, so I'm not alone in feeling like this. I think the idea that a person that was so beautiful with such talent who worked so hard to perfect her art, that such a person has been taken away from us, is just very hard for us to rationalize. It just shouldn't have happened. I'm sure she knew that she was respected and loved by the reaction she received on youtube and instagram, but I bet should could never have guessed how much her passing has affected so many people. She deserved to be more recognized during her lifetime.
Patricia was impressed with the number of international supporters she had turning up at her concerts. She was just 17.5 years old here, I was there.

What a gift she had. Even with her early death, she had already lost so much time since her diagnosis because of the chemotherapy and surgery. I understand that she put up a valiant fight. I am so sad that they couldn't save her. She was so much more than just a prodigy.
there was only one patricia janeckova!! not only was she a fantastic singer but she was a great actress too! i think 2023 was the year she was going to be introduced to europe & america but sadly her cancer had other ideas!! her name & music must never be forgotten, whether it is by book, stage or film/dvd! obviously cds will become available - possibly a greatest hits compilation album, with all the tracks chosen by her fans! 'AI' WOULD BE A WAY OF INTRODUCING HER TO A NEWER, YOUNGER AUDIENCE! AFTER ALL, IT WORKED FOR THE BEATLES & ABBA!!! maybesome of the proceeds could go towards breast cancer research!

I discovered Patricia only about a year and a half ago. I was in a tailspin of grief over her until yesterday. I already wanted to donate in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month because I know somebody who is currently suffering. It never seemed right until a couple days ago, when I finally found out that BCAM is global, that events held in the Czech Republic were filled with references to the tragedy, and any research into early-onset breast cancer is the most perfect way to honor Patricia’s legacy. I’m also thankful that Patricia really gave her all into her performances because they are simply among the greatest performances ever of those arias, and the fact that they are done by a teenager is coincidental.

I have lost count of the people who have said, as you do, that they wept on hearing of her death. And of course I did too.
All we have is some 100-150 short video clips on youtube (some of them most beautiful), one CD from when she was maybe 12..., one or two guest appearances on a CD of s.o. else... and a single TV recording of a complete opera... or rather a masque by Handel (Acis and Galatea at the baroque theatre of Valtice, on youtube)... I wish there were more...
FR. I have her first album and was looking forward to several more! Also wanted to see her perform at the Metropolitan Opera House. It feels like she should have had those opportunities by now. 😢

Patricia was a frequent performer at the Lednice-Valtice Music Festival, notably in 2017, 2019 and 2021. You will find several well recorded videos of her if you look up ‘LVMF’ here on RUclips. No doubt you have watched and listened to some of these already, but you may find others that are new to you.
The festival also quite often features Jana Semeradova directing and/or playing flute with the excellent Collegium Marianum. You will remember Jana as the wonderfully animated director of Handel’s Acis and Galatea, with assorted puppets and Patricia as the sweet nymph, Galatea.

What struck me on first hearing her was her tone, that timbre. It fell on my ears in a way so many opera sopranoes do not. Her renditions of Dvorak's "Song to the Moon" stuck in my mind.
Song to the Moon is my favourite song and Patricia was vary good at singing it. I simply cannot believe I will never see her again.

In another video, you have commented on Patricia's articulation and pronunciation. Indeed, whether in French, Italian, or English, she was perfect (I imagine the same for other languages, I don't know well). And in the Doll's song, I can say there is no more beautiful way than Patricia's to pronounce the all important word "amour". Patricia, mon amour !

L'autre jour, j'écoutais un merveilleux enregistrement sur RUclips d'une performance à la Scala de la Traviata avec Maria Callas et Giuseppe di Stefano, et les larmes me venaient aux yeux lorsque je me souvenais de la répartie ironique de Patricia à l'effet que son plus grand bonheur serait de mourir sur scène dans le rôle de Violetta ! Thank you so much for making these videos celebrating the AMAZING Patricia Janecková. The very first time I saw her on video was when I stumbled upon this very performance and I nearly fell off my chair. Since then I have watched pretty much all the videos available online of her singing, and was absolutely shocked to my core to hear of her death. Right now, watching this incredible performance I am crying with sadness, for I just cannot get over the fact that she has died so young and at the prime of her life and brilliant career. Life is so incredibly cruel! She sang like an angel, so I am sure she is singing in Heaven now and delighting all the other angels.

We are already seeing this aria suddenly become fashionable as a showpiece. I can guarantee that some people performing the aria for the first time have listened to this performance to inspire their own. I have watched some possible cases of this phenomenon.
I am not sure about a world that would take such a beautiful talent so soon.
Now in my 8th decade, it strikes me that every lifetime is, at its end, a tragedy...punctuated by episodes of triumph, and Patricia's triumphs remain and will remain to enchant us.

Months ago, I was looking for a version of this piece to illustrate it, and I compared all the sopranos who sang this I could find online. I chose this one out of them all. Who was she, I wondered. Why was she not a household name in the 🇺🇸!? Learning she has passed feels a very bitter pill. Apparently, faster than most of us, she completed her life’s mission, brilliantly, to the fullest. It’s the only way I know how to understand it. We wanted so much more. And wanted so much more for her. 😔

Oh dear, I’m not sure if you are a man or a woman but I can see that you are in the US and perhaps an opera fan? Comparing Olympias is interesting. Natalie Dessay took the crown for a while but really I do prefer Patricia’s as it’s less frantic! (Dessay tried to find a “reason” for every note which was quite exhausting!) Sadly, I believe Patricia was only at the beginning of her artistic journey. Cancer is a cruel disease that takes those we love dearly without any reason or justification. I believe she was going to be as great as Anna Moffo or Cotrubas.

I should have said “soul’s mission,” not life’s mission. The soul’s journey is one comfort I seem to have come to in advancing years, though it can be a feeble one.
I too believe Patricia would have had a stellar career. It is painful news. The mind attempts to soften it with any threads of comfort, however ineffectual.
Surely we are all united in a deep grief for this young singer.

I’m finding that she’s gaining traction even here in the US. Sopranos left and right are learning how to play Olympia from Patricia, and it really shows. Look for Julia Parks here on RUclips; her performance is pretty much a carbon copy of Patricia’s. She’s a college student in central Illinois. Other sopranos copy various moves from Patricia and ring their own changes on them. The choreography before Patricia in 2016 and especially before Patricia in 2013 seems to be very different even in concert performances of Olympia.

When she died I felt a great loss.I had seen her do once apon a time in the west when she was 17.I shouldn't be so emotional that is just how it is.I am 83 years old,and I am thankful that I can enjoy many kinds of music.

I love this! "Tales of Hoffman" was the first of 32 operas and operettas I sang in from 1982 to1995 - some in Maryland and some in D. C. I still remember who the doll was - a young voice student from the University of Maryland named Sheryl Melvin. I love your comments., William. AAnd I loved Patricia, who is now with the angels.
She was a rare gem. Gone far too soon. May she rest well and forever be in our hearts.
We were blessed with a brief time with this beautiful young woman with such a God-given angelic voice. Now, I'm sure God himself is enjoying her voice mingled with the heavenly choir of other angels. I've never enjoyed opera before. I had the good fortune to hear Patricia only once when she was merely 14 years old and fell in love with her voice. The sheer control and range left me in awe. She is sadly missed...
Its like a dream you cant wake from knowing she will no longer be performing and gracing us with her humor and love.

And this song just happens to be from The Tales of Hoffmann. A later act features the opera singer Antonia (often played by the same actress as the doll) who dies of a terminal illness at the age of twenty. Patricia Janečková only got five more years.

Offenbach is a highly underrated composer. I mean just like everyone sings Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to their kids not knowing it's actually Mozart who wrote it, most people know the overture of Orpheus in the Underworld without realizing it's Offenbach and it's not called the French Can Can.

It is nauseating that she died of breast cancer at 25yrs. The human brain only completely matures at age 25 so the truth is she'd only just achieved true adulthood when it hit her. I had to watch this twice - once to watch her and once to watch you listening to her. All the best.
