This and CRASH are cronenberg's underrated masterpieces.

The film’s well acted, stylish, well written, well directed, well characterised & is an original horror film that’s also A culty film. (85%) (4/5 stars) (positive)

This has basically the same premise as Żuławski's Possession, what a divorce feels like for the affected parties. Although Żuławski referenced Scenes from a Marriage

I was thinking of Possession immediately, especially with the child abuse stuff early on in the film

Terrific film. I love Oliver Reed as the psychiatrist.

Criterion's releases of Cronenberg look like they've been flattened by someone with a disdain for light.

My favourite Cronenberg. Creepy & disturbing.

Reliable Roger Ebert? Oh, Mr Kermode, you are always so polite.

To be fair, he and Ebert are quite alike. If you look at Kermode original review of Blue Velvet, you get a textbook example mistaking the disgust he felt with the overall quality of the film. It's just that Kermode is a younger critic of a more genre-aware generation than Ebert was.

ebert's review for the brood pointed out once and for all how shallow and hysterical and generally invalid he was as a reviewer. his reputation as a "cool" critic with a good average for liking movies isn't just beyond me, it's a lie. and his inability to be objective was pathetic.

Ebert was a great critic, but he had an enormous blind spot when it came to the horror genre.

@@thatllputmarzipaninyourpie3117 Daily reminder: Ebert wrote the script for Russ Meyer's Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

I feel like every major critic is hated by people just because they disliked a few movies that said person liked ha ha

I can only imagine how bad the divorce would have been that he came up with this movie.
