Wow, somebody likes Yes Relayer! A great underrated album, the only Yes album with Patrick Moraz on keys! Rick Wakeman was their second keyboardist and was classically trained, he joined Yes in 1972, then Bill Bruford was a founding member and also a jazz drummer and he quit after the Close to the Edge album in 1972, then Patrick Moraz was a jazz keyboardist and replaced Rick in 1974! Then they took a break and all came out with solo albums and Rick replaced Patrick in 1977 when they got back together again! They kept bouncing between classical and and jazz and combining both as well! Jon Anderson Olias of Sunhillow was his first solo album in 1976, it is a concept album but RUclips took it down in its entirety but each individual track is still posted! Check them out! And check out Genesis "Supper's Ready" and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway too! Genesis was great from 1969 to 1976 with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett, afterwards, they became more pop neo prog and lost their creativity! But they did become a household name though! Blah! Then there is Jethro Tull and Renaissance that are also great bands back then! Nektar is another great band! Check out my other Olias of Sunhillow channel (with the black cat) for some ideas, if you want!
Great song and reaction. I’ve been listening to Yes since the 70s. A thought that still goes through my head is, “what did I just listen to?” To try to decipher the lyrics is impossible sometimes. That’s what makes their music so interesting. Their musicianship is incredible. Never a weak band member through the years.
stcif 👊❤️I’m so glad you are here to say that... bc I’m so new to this... and it’s like I don’t have the skill or musical knowledge to decipher my feelings towards this genius music.. but the instruments are so amazing! And I get such a kick out of learning so much with all of you & your comments! 🙂💯
Together with preceding "Tales From Topographic Oceans" the album that divides Yes fandom. At the same time the part "Soon" of "Gates Of Delirium" is one of their most beautiful moments.
Kristin Kali Gates of Delirium. A war put to music. During certain parts of the song they used metal car parts and stuff out of a junk yard to make some of the crashing noises. Awesome.
I remember last listening to this with my ear buds drifting along the shoreline in my (finally) new kayak this last summer. The current kept the boat slowly moving down the lake. All I had to do was the odd paddle to keep away from stray logs. Sun shining, as my speakers tickled my ears with : "We go sailing down the calming streams Drifting endlessly by the bridge To be over We will see To be over Do not suffer through the game of chance that plays Always doors to lock away your dreams Think it over Time will heal your fear Think it over Balance the thoughts that release within you
Certainly an underrated track - Gates of Delirium tends to get all the accolades. Since I listen to Yes a full album at a time, this song never gets left behind.
A song like this has to be heard when you're in the appropriate mood and state of mind. The guitar run in the middle is exhilarating though. This is quite a "Dense" Album If you want to rock out though Yessongs Live versions are Great.
michael york 👊❤️🙂🎶👈Michael you are so astute!! I was thinking my dumb sound system is ruining this for me!!! 😂😂💯 guess what my sound works now!! I’m so very happy!!! So happy happy indeed!! No more crackles!!
@@KristinKali Sound Quality is Essential for Full Listening Enjoyment. Enjoy! 😁👍 You have done more Yes than anyone else. No one has done any Yessongs Versions
One of the many reasons that Yes sound so different is that Steve Howe vowed to avoid the Blues because it was everywhere at the time. Every Rock player was based in the Blues (including myself) Howe, on the other hand is influenced by Jazz, Country, Folk and classical.
Direnova 😳🗣Ooooohhh!! That’s gotta be it! It makes so much sense... Direnova! With your puzzle piece I’m getting the bigger picture!! Of course Yes wants to stand out so doing anything but Blues makes them stand out!
@@KristinKali Direnova makes a great point. As a young guitarist (14) back in 1981 when I started buying Yes albums, first off, I adored Steve's playing. Immediate guitar hero. But I didn't understand at the time how he would say in interviews that he was influenced by Chet Atkins (country) and Wes Montgomery (jazz) and people like that. It took me years of playing and studying music to finally hear, understand and appreciate how those influences manifested in his playing, and how that influenced the rest of Yes' music. I got to meet Steve in 2015, and sit and talk with him awhile backstage at one of their shows, and it was one of my life's greatest moments. Truly a thoughtful, lovely person. Steve counts To Be Over one of his top favorite moments for Yes. It is, has been, and always will be for me as well.
KK, Steve Howe is doing the lead guitar and the haunting steel guitar...great reaction...it does an ol' heart swell to see a youngster as you enjoy a masterful tune I grew up with...it gives me perspective and a differing view on what this song entails. Keep up the good work and thanks for being one of the first I've found to present and react to 'To Be Over'...
Relayer6a 👊❤️The good thing is you guys are so refined that YOU notice... not me.. I really don’t know anything about this kind of refined music... I’m not putting myself down... just speaking truthfully... this is all so new to me!! 😂🙌💯
Yes is so amazing, your comments are quite on the money. I looked through your videos and wow, you listened to some really great stuff. If you enjoy these Yes mosical journeys, you just must give "Awaken" (from the album "Going for the One") a try. Itis 15 minutes long but quite a nice ride. Enjoy.
Hey @EJ! If you're going to request Awaken, please do the version with Todmobile and the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra. That song deserves a full choir and orchestra, and that version gets what it deserves. You can almost see Jon Anderson crying by the end of it.
@@KristinKali Hi Kristen.....If you search for Firth of Fifth , the channel to look out for is called .... Amit Thank you for replying to me and I hope you enjoy it.
That end chant, just in case anyone was curious, according to Jon Anderson "It's whatever you think you are hearing. We did it intentionally so everyone would hear their own thing. Like a mantra." It goes: "New som du lay sah du rah sah du lay tu sah rah, du sah dulay, sah du rah, tey tu santeh."
Great reaction. Yes is my favorite and this song is one of their more spiritually aligned. I've been watching your videos lately a lot. I have to know: Is Kali really your last name? Did you know it is also the name of a Hindu Goddess?
I like most of Yes's music but this isn't a track I would seek out to listen to. You speak of layers in the song but end of the day I like it to have a catchy tune.
To Be Over is my favorite song!
Beautiful song- always one of my favorites from the band!
There just is nothing like a Steve Howe guitar piece of music!!
70's YES were the masters at Layers often without you actually realizing it until you are caught in the mesmerizing Vortex of their interweavings
Another example of why YES are the greatest composers & arrangers in rock history as well as being incredible musicians and live performers.
