Hey Coach I'm a Sophomore in highschool and this is my first year throwing and I'm very serious about this sport and hope to get a scholarship off of this but the problem is my "Coach" is only in it for the paycheck. He only taught us how to do the barbarian and stand throw in shotput. But I prefer discus. As for discus I had to learn how to do a stand throw off of RUclips. I'm currently throwing 70's at practice but my official pr is 60"1 ft. But once I started watching your videos and Aretethrows Nation TV videos I went from throwing 30's to 70's in a matter of one week. But your videos help a lot more and thank you for hard and generous work you put into your videos. It'd be nice to have a Coach who is serious about teaching and helping throwers be the best they can be like you!

Your story is very inspirational! To make a comeback in throwing events after being away from it for a few years is easier said than done. By the way, is age on your side? How old are you in July 2019?
Thank you and I agree! Coming back to the discus is the most challenging adventure I've ever faced. I am 32 years old and I believe I have 3 to 5 years of far throws in me!

Great Video. I am a 50yr old who is getting ready to compete in my first senior games 6 weeks from now. I have not thrown discus in over 30 years. I still have 2K discus from years ago, should I continue to train with those?? or get 1.5k which is what I will be throwing in competition. Cheers!
That is very exciting! I wish you the best in your training and competing! I would get a 1.5k discus if I were you. It will help your technique at this point in your training!
I'm an old discus thrower -- decades of competition, and coaching, too.. John is right. You really must get a few 1.5k discuses. I'd order a few 1.25s for training speed, as well With the 2ks, you are building some strength and stability but you are training to throw too slowly.
any suggestions for someone that can not afford proper rotational spin shoes? right now i use shoes with very well worn front soles, but i am thinking of trying used bowling shoes.
I know you commented this a while ago but I actually just bought some spinning shoes for about 64.99 which is pretty good considering some are 110 dollars. I got mine off eastbay so try looking there or on a resell site.
Maybe you could give a tip on how to get Nike or Adidas throw shoes. Every source I’ve tried(13) has been out of stock sinceFebruary. My running shoes grab the concrete throwing circles like they have talons and strain the knee when pivoting.

Hey John! Thoughts on Niel Serafenas? Also you’ve mentioned being trained by kanter’s coach, do you think it’s possible the Europeans have consciously tried to sabotage our technique as Americans? We are competitors on the world stage after all.
John Bowman for sure! I’ve noticed some discrepancies in their form and ours. Olympic sabotage is fairly common if I’m not mistaken. I am by no means attacking your form or technique I was just asking since you’ve been trained by a European.

John Bowman I concur, the ideal form is not owned by any one country or nationality. I continuously see a linear drive toward the right sector. I realized the linear drive must be applied on the right side of the center of rotational gravity or else the linear momentum fights the rotational momentum. Does that sound accurate to you?

In the last few decades, the Europeans have kicked our ass in the discus. I put my money where the results are.
