  • This Creo Parametric tutorial video shows you how to use a model's dimensions as Annotations as part of Model Based Definition (MBD). In addition to showing how to use the Show Annotations command, this video also shows:
    * Creating Combination States
    * Defining Saved Orientations and applying them to Combination States
    * Adjusting the Annotation text height from Detail Options in Model Properties
    * Add to State
    * Current Orientation for dimensions and Move to Plane

    Multiple "thumbs up", Dave. This presentation was a big help making sense of using the annotations tab. Now to figure out how to best offer a mapkey that might assist in supplementing the missing typical additional combination state(s) in either old parts or old assemblies - if feasible.

    Excellent! Glad to see the application of MIL-STD-31000; will be using today!

      That resource is gold for getting started with MBD.

    Another question, can these annotations be included when saving a 3D pdf of the part or assembly? I just attempted to do so without success, even after checking the 'include annotations' checkbox in the 3D pdf save dialog

    Annotation Element Dimension fails with an annoying message in Notification Center when activate the Simp Rep Flat state of a sheetmetal part in Creo Parametric, did you know how to solve it?

      I am not familiar with that. I recommend opening a ticket with PTC Tech Support.

    If I need to change the annotation plane of a dimention add from a feature sketch, how can I do that? In this tutorial you change the plane from the original sketch plan, to another parallel one. But how can i use a perpendicular plan, for example? Thanks!

    Can you do a video explaining how to work with semantic query? i really don't understand what it works for :/

    Hello Mr Dave
    I have a trouble with an MBD, maybe you can help me.
    I am using simplified reps in some of the combo states of my MBD, also some combo states are using its own layer state, this is an MBD of an Assembly.
    The problem is, when I press "regenerate" some dimensions moves alone in some combo states and I need to adjust their position again, this only affect the dimensions, notes and symblos keep on their original position. It is an eternal cylce, I put the dimension in a place, save changes, press regenerate in the current combo state and nothing happens, but when I jump to another state and press regenerate, the dimension of the previos combo state moves alone again. This happens in many combo states, even if they don't have simplifed or layer state assigned.
    I hope you can help me or at least give me an idea of what could be causing this.
    Thanks in advanced.

    Can you add a link to the spec you reference for the naming convention please.

    Such an incredibly useful video, thank you! Quick question, is there a way to set the default text color of the annotations?

    Good afternoon! And where can I download or watch MIL-STD-31000?

      You can find multiple locations from a Google search, like EverySpec and NIST. It's also available on my website Dropbox.

    is it possible to snap annotations to the model grid? i refuse to believe that this has not been incorporated

    • @CADPLMGuy
      @CADPLMGuy  2 года назад

      I don’t know. Have you requested that functionality? “Refuse to believe” is an interesting way to put it, especially if you knew how Michael solicits enhancement requests from users.

      @@CADPLMGuy unfortunatly requesting features is not something that i can realistically do, i am limited by specific releases and versions that have been approved in dadms so even if i requested it and they patched it, i would not be able to get that patch. it can take up to 2 years to review and approve software that can be pushed enterprise wide. we essentially are at the mercy of NMCI and when they decide to update our creo. i was on 3 for years then out of the blue we were upgraded to 4 and then like a year later upgraded to 6. i think well get 7 soon but im not sure. i guess i say refuse to believe because it seems like it should be so simple because with the push to go fully mbd with 3dis pulling combined states that the thought of the presentation of annotations and annotation features would be something that someone has thought of before me...

    • @patolcottw
      @patolcottw 2 года назад

      @@CADPLMGuy also more i dont just mean snapping to model grid, i mean being able to snap to any grid in a combined state so that annotations are not just manually placed

    • @CADPLMGuy
      @CADPLMGuy  2 года назад

      Here's why I think "refuse to believe" is a weird position to have. (1) Just because you think it's simple, doesn't mean it is. (2) Annotation snapping to constraints was introduced in Creo 4.0 and it went over like a lead balloon. People HATED it. That sort of thing can affect similar projects going forward. (3) Michael (MBD program manager) is a great guy. But I can tell you, he's not Professor X. He doesn't have a Cerebro to tell him "Patrick wants snap to model grid." So if you don't request the functionality, and it's not requested by others... you shouldn't "refuse to believe" it hasn't been implemented.

      @@CADPLMGuy Oh i completely understand, i just wish i didn't have to go through nmci, because it really doesn't allow for requesting features due to not being able to get new patches or releases without substantial review through DADMS
