In the future, warfare has been revolutionized by the invention of mechanical weapons called “Objects.” These Objects are overwhelmingly powerful, rendering traditional weapons like guns, tanks and fighter jets completely useless. Qwenthur is an un-athletic, but smart soldier who aims to work as an Object mechanic. Stationed at an Alaskan Object base, he meets Milinda, a stoic but beautiful Elite Soldier who pilots her own Object. As they learn to support each other in battle, Qwenthur begins to uncover the grim secret behind the Heavy Objects.

My favorite part of this anime is the very real portrayal of how war doctrine changes over time and how something "all powerful" eventually makes way and becomes obsolete in the face of "more intelligent combat". Heavy Objects, which are all-powerful devices capable of destroying almost anything in an instant, except each other, ignores most combatants that have no way to attack it. Soldiers can do little more than plink useless rounds off the things and do zero damage to them. So, tanks and planes and infantry aren't really used to fight all that much except in locations that the Heavy Objects can't get to easily.
Enter in a couple of soldiers who manage to go toe-to-toe with these machines all because they're desperate to survive and prove that, "Hey, if your heavy object actually has infantry support, it actually destroys other Heavy Objects much easier. You should probably deploy these things with some actual battle tactics in mind". These two guys then go on to destroy these Heavy Objects using physics against them, subterfuge, sabotage, and exploitation of human behavior.
You can't crack these suckers with multiple nuclear warhead strikes, but you give a couple guys a limited arsenal, time to think, and a desperate situation... and they dismantle them quite easily.
It was quite an entertaining watch.

Quenser Barbotage's capability to destroy Objects is too great that a Genius Designer(If I remembered the character correctly) said something along the line of 'If he actually design an Object, that Object would skip over 3rd generation to 4th or 5th or something.' I can't remember the exact phrase but I think it was from 6th volume : Path to Third Generation - Coming of Third Generation.
Any Light Novel readers out there who can remember, correct me if I am wrong.

This is exactly now what is happening in Ukraine in regards to Russian military kit. Anything created by man, can also be destroyed by man.
These events have now basically become reality. And just like in the series, the world is learning quick.
This anime is very awesome. Although, the ending is rushed , it's still better than most anime.
Just found out Kamachi made this story and def had to watch it myself... this guy is a monster i swear, what a huge work ethic and imagination. And the fact that he still wrote a good amount of other good stories while also keeping the masterpiece that is the toaru universe updated wow...
It's getting a lot of hate.... I just think everyone's a bit salty because they could have made Index 3 although the series is not that bad

One of the best openings of the season and the people who call this series shit haven't given it a chance and they most likely dropped it after episode 1 after that random fan service moment smh...
Haven't tried it myself, but I am the sort of person who would drop a show due to out of place fanservice. Do they avoid that after the first episode?
I never drop a show first episode or even two or three. Especially now that I review anime on my channel, I watch till the end no matter what.

Same story as Spice and Wolf, but if I'm more than happy to *read* about Holo and Lawrance's adventures, I would much rather prefer *watching* big bad CGI robots than reading about them.
The light novel where amazing, but the ending was pretty lame, this anime was so good but it's the same the publisher and the editor forced Kazuma Kamachi to drop a bunch of series that where good too for index bc the toxic fandom started harassing the editorial and everything.

I really love the opening, the song is catchy and the visuals is good (not the best but it's watchable), it's one of the few that i don't actually skip.
This is a really good anime, too much dialogs for my taste but the action and strategy is really cool. I don't watch too many mecha anime so this is fresh for me.

It's weird, I really shouldn't like index. Critically, It has many faults in my opinion. Theres just something about it though, I can't explain why I liked index and railgun (besides misaka). It was just enjoyable, and for every problem I had with it there were 2 things I really liked.

I don't know, in my opinion him doining other things like heavy object is a mistake. I think he should finish raildex before creating more series.

This is a really groovy opening. I especially like that beginning 0:26-0:46.
And I know it's kinda rude to say, but no matter how much I will like or dislike this show, I will always have that voice in the back of my head saying "I wish this was Index season 3".
If only we knew how lucky we were to not have Index III...

As for as I have seen on MAL, one person gave it a 4, and someone else gave it a 6.
+ThatGuyLew I've only seen the first episode, but if you're into stuff like this (War, mecha [kind of], ecchi, sci fi, and some more), You might like it. It was also written by the person that wrote A Certain Magical Index, so that's a bit of a plus, if you like that.

I really like this show, very smart and funny. Qwenther is awesome and basically the brains of the whole thing. I just really don't like the so called "princess" (I don't see a tiara or what country is she a princess of?) basically Qwenther tells her what to do and when, she's pretty much not necessary, he can actually driver the object via remote so the "princess" is does what Qwenther tells her like a puppet, no intelligence needed, very poor character (in my opinion). Everyone else is funny and have great development.
The princess is figurative, she is an Elite so she is more respected and cared for than grunts so they call her princess as a jokey nickname
Ahhhh....ok. I just don't really like anything about her character, there is really no development, she just does what she is told and not much of anything else, no sense of humor or charisma bout her, basically a "royal" brat.

Bryce Avret thank you. I really hate how they do that. They release half of a show and then wait several months then they release the second half of the show Even though both halves are completely available to be watched online. And that's another thing I don't like why are they constantly taking series that are 24 episodes and breaking them into two parts even though they're probably one continuous season? I'm sure there's some kind of strategy behind it but in my mind all I'm seeing is a way to nickel-and-dime Loyal fans.
ultrajd it's a nickel and dime strategy, you can go ahead pre order part 2, and buy part 1. I think there on a small sale rige now, it should come up to about 106$ as the price stand as of this moment for both parts, oh and happy to help.

Bryce Avret you have the show doesn't really seem to get the love that it deserves in my mind. I mean I really like this show. I will admit I did find it kind of weird that an engineering student and a radar technician suddenly became basically the most powerful weapons in a military force but here nor there the show as a whole was really good I liked it. The one thing that I really liked about it the most was the sheer uniqueness of it. I mean we've seen giant robot shows before but the robots are always designed to be humanoid in nature or at least relatively humanoid. But in this case they did something that I actually think is far more believable. They basically just figured "it doesn't have to be fancy it just has to be big, well armored and loaded with fire power." The units in this show definitely follow function over form. Granted that's not to say that they don't look good. Each one of them actually look fairly cool in their own right. Princeton spots floating one that was triangular in shape that was really cool. As was that 1 that could jump around. I don't know why this show doesn't get much love.

Certainly not one of the best anime, despite the opening. But I'm watching it, because it's not half bad. Minus the first episode, it has nice ecchi... nice round hard objects shooting at each other in a white place... a girl in that round hard object...
