  • Nairobi’s Eastleigh estate is not all about Somalis but a melting pot of regional cultures.
    They include immigrants from Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Tanzania and Congo. While their numbers may not be as big as that of Somalis, these nationals have made Eastleigh a melting pot of regional cultures.
    The commercial hub is the only place in Kenya where one encounters and learns about the diversity and complexities of the people and the region. It does not take much for one to appreciate Eastleigh as a melting pot of the larger East Africa cultures.

    There are 9 million Somali-Ethipopian, in Ethiopia. They have the second largets region in Ethipia and there are 3 million Somali-Kenyans in Kenya,the reason why Somalis succeeded in Kenya and fail in Ethiopia is that Kenya is an open minded people but Ethiopians are closed minded people and they will never allow you to succeede.The best country in Africa to do busenness and the best people are Kenyans.

    Here is the thing about most Ethiopians. They are extremely camera shy. By nature Ethiopians are also , for the most part, introvert while the Somalis are the total opposite. Somalis, as you have already witnessed, are extrovert. To get an Ethiopian in your camera shot is extremely hard , However, once they get to know you, that shyness will disappear So do not take it personal and get offended by what you came across in the Ethiopian communities.

    • @Fard3
      @Fard3 Месяц назад +1

      Nothing to do with introvert vs. extrovert; Ethiopians lack social skills, and most of them can't speak English. They’re too much into their own community

    You made a very interesting statement: Most of Ethiopians don't like cameras. There is a reason for that. Ethiopians are a proud people and proud Africans who were portrayed by the Western media in the 1980s as a land of hunger and ethnic conflict. This bad news spread by the West has caused a lot of damage to this beautiful country. For this reason, most Ethiopians see the negative side of the media.

      It’s not good in a modern world.
      Even when Ethiopians live in the west they can barely function apart from their community. You don’t see them in corporate America, not many in high paying industries. For their high population should see more of them as doctors, engineers like Indians. Too many drive taxis, do intra-community jobs. They cling to their community and cannot even hold conversation with outsiders.
      I would hope it changes in the future for them. They act very suspicious towards others. It is strange.

    • @gagoomt4076
      @gagoomt4076 Месяц назад

      I don’t think it has anything to do with being reserved. For example, the Japanese are reserved but they can interact with the outside world.
      I lived in Ethiopia for a few years for work, I think it has to do with ideology. The Habesha Orthodox Highlanders believe they are a special people chosen by God like the Js. When you see yourself as superior to others based on religious beliefs you will have a disconnect with anyone outside of that group.
      Southern Ethiopians tend to be a bit less suspicious and more friendly.
