+iTubeYourDadsMinge No nothing of the medic remained in Big Boss, this is how Big Boss feels about Paz even if he was once the medic. Maybe the medic's own guilt is present but more than anything this is Big Boss's lament in not being able to save Paz
+iTubeYourDadsMinge it's a mixture of what both of you said. you're forgetting the Medic was brainwashed and now has all of Big Bosses past experiences, emotions, and traits engraved in his core. in essence every part of big boss he inherited down the most minute details. yet at the same time, certain parts of his past are still trapped inside. though he is unaware of it. so this is Venom feeling the guilt Big Boss was feeling for being unable to save someone he cared about. and on the other hand this is a Medic feeling the guilt of possibly being able to save someone who needed his help and failing them. in turn letting down Boss and Paz. truly sad when you think about it.
Talking with my brother we noticed it was so obvious... in 9 years she didn't age at all. We were so stupid on not noticing it. The last tape is damn sad, probably one of the saddest moments in the game.
Me too but I began feeling something was wrong when no one mentions anything about Paz at all like as if she's not even there. But beside that or her still young appearance, how did she end up in the medical platform anyway? It was obvious from the beginning but we're the same as venom snake... We wanted to see her again, but it turns out that it was all hallucination, a part of phantom pain :(
+2236gaming Aye... it always bugged me that she didn't age a single bit... or what the hell was she doing during those 9 years too. I still believed that she was alive, like a fool -.- Well played Kojima. It's a damn shame the best part of MGSV will never be experienced by the majority of the players though.
well i that is was weird when my solders would talk in say the boss goes to the medcil patfrom a lot yea in he stands there i wonder what he doed idont know that was sort of wried to me but i neverd payed pace waker in ground zeros so
There's a hidden conversation that can happen between Mother Base staff members. They say that "Boss keeps on going into the construction area" and how they're unsure of why. It's likely those staff are witnessing Venom's illusion where he walks into Paz' room in his mind but nowhere in reality (the construction area).
Damn... that scream 15:33 makes me choke a little everythime I hear it, Venom really could'nt let go the fact that he overlooked that second bomb and losing Paz. Thank you Keifer for the pro work man.
@@dotcom_dotau8510 No, In Ground Zero, it's was too late to remove the second one. This second one killed Paz. Big Boss and the medic wouldn't have a chance to know about it.
Oh guys playing this storyline when you lost someone dear it's just emotionally insane. When i finished listening to the last tape and realized that it's all about the acceptance of loss i just couldn't stop crying.
*******SPOILERS********* This was the only aspect of the "you're not playing as Big Boss" twist that I appreciated. The medic feeling guilt that he failed to find the second bomb and coping with his guilt by reinventing the events on the helicopter in his own mind so that he saved her life. It's heartbreaking. Guess it wasn't enough that the game took Quiet away, Paz had to go too.
+ahorita no joven yes and the room isn't even real after when he wakes up outside you can see the peace symbol the one that is the same is inside he made the room up and when he gives it to Paz he probably threw the pictures in the ocean
Quiet... You can get her back but not part of the story. Something thrown in during an update Replay and finish the mission (11, I think. Look it up in case I'm wrong) seven times and it will change to reunion. You can get Quiet back even after Mission 43
Yes, i think this PTSD is more that just from losing a patient...it's also from losing a friend. When he hallucinates her saying things like "You were always so kind to me, Snake." my guess is his brainwashing is replacing his own name with Snake's.
ahha! it all makes sense now! naked snake's phantom is the medic from ground zeros who performed the procedure on paz! he feels guilty he failed to find the other bomb, so he copes with it through denial... my mind is officially blown...
Its so heart wrenching to see how Miller used to be so free and free spirited... now he is just a bitter old man, disregarding the happiness of the past and just living for another way to take the edge off his phantom pain..
+Rogelio López Pacheco (CyberNetOme) It isn't but it's more so kind of like Paz will always be with him as a few fragments they couldn't remove was near his heart.
Coleco 84 actually, Kojima was already in the process of getting demoted in the company and his relationship with Konami being extremely strained and pointing towards his removal was very evident to Kojima. This can be proven by reviewing Konami’s staff records where you can see him get continuously demoted, MGSV Ground Zero’s mission of erasing previous MGS titles, and even hearing radio transmissions of PT throughout MGSVTPP, which if you know deeper about PT, was more of a huge diss to Konami.
Hayter brought a lot more emotion to the games than Kiefers facial expressions did that's for sure. Shit, no idea how you could even call yourself a fan of MGS if you're glad they got rid of the voice of the franchise, MGSV was lifeless without him.
This whole game to include Ground Zeros really nailed the psychological effects of war. Paz’s story ,next to the MGS3 ending, has to be the most emotional grabbing story. Paz, the Angel of Peace, became the pinnacle definition of a victim of war.
An orphaned girl turned into a ruthless, manipulative instrument of war. That’s truly sickening. She was robbed of any innocence she might have had and her “Angel of Peace” persona makes that sting even more. Even still, she wasn’t heartless but she was scared what would happen if she disobeyed Cipher. I think her fears were justified considering what happens to her in Ground Zeroes.
I haven’t played Peace Walker, don’t know what it’s about but these cutscenes and Paz’ journals makes me think their mother base back in the day was filled with family gatherings filled with great memories. Depressing to think that their lives turned to revenge. Good times are gone.
Yep, that's exactly what Peace Walker was. Just watch some peace walker tapes on youtube, some even got animations. Peace Walker really had that happy atmosphere going. And yes I'm replying to a 2 year old comment, what of it?
MSF was a place where soldiers will always be needed. They were mercenaries, but they chased an ideal, money was only secondary. They definitely were one big family, loyal to each other and Snake.
Legit the saddest and most psychological moment in MGSV :( I was really hoping she had survived at first, but had my doubts.. Still cried though. Would cry again too.
Dark Exsphere Same :( I was suspicious that she was really dead still or something (or maybe that it wasn't really Paz) but by the time I got the last photo, I was like, "OK NOT COOL!! THIS IS NOT OKAY!!" xD
when they kept talking about a secend bomb i thought it was up her pussy an they removed an that y she was trumatized, but she rearly had depth to her charchter
Is it just me, or is Venom Snake's scream at 15:34 one of Kiefer Sutherland's best performances in this game? Venom Snake didn't talk much in MGSV, but I think this one takes the cake.
Venom was supposed to be troubled and kept his thoughts to himself most of the time so I think it's not Kiefer's fault there's not much character in Venom. Kinda sad though since this is the last game and I kinda expected to hear those silly comments from Big Boss one last time even from a fake one.
It kind of breaks from Big Boss' character established in Snake Eater and Peace Walker known for being rather chatty, even over the radio and tapes. It might have been a way to make Venom more of a player avatar than anything else, but it ends up that we're looking more at an empty stand-in than the Big Boss we knew, even damaged as he is. Then there's that famous "staring contest" sequence. I was also hoping for us to be able to choose Venom Snake's' dialogue during this sidequest too.
Project 2 Absolutely, and I'm disappointed that despite how much she enjoyed being with MSF and how much she wanted to celebrate "Peace Day" she, in the end, didn't tell Snake and the rest of MSF about who she was and switch sides. In the end, she chose Cipher and tried to kill Snake and thousands of other people. Maybe that's why I'm sad she died, because she was such a complex character.
@@elliroux I mean can u blame the guy. He basically lost everything he dreamt of, msf was his dream, and it was taken away from him. All thats left is the vengeful spirit that is thirsty for revenge
Kojima's writing might be extremely spotty and inconsistent, sometimes even downright illogical, stupid, perverse, childish, inappropriate and just bad, but sometimes he comes up with scenarios that just ooze brilliance and genius. This is one of them.
The last tape was overdone, too explanatory, a bit condescending to the audience. But even so, it's still the best part in an otherwise rather poorly written story. Not that any of his stories are particularly good except in parts.
She may have been the final boss of Peace Walker, but I can't help but feel sorry for her, used by a Russian in an attempt at getting Snake to deal with the CIA operating in Costa Rica, all the while they were all being, In Kaz's own words, "Played like a damn Fiddle!!".
Watching this makes me really miss MSF, as I imagine the shenanigans that Snake and all the people mentioned here got into. Peace Walker really did have a very colourful cast by comparison to Phantom Pain.
Peace Walker was often too goofy with some very questionable characters too. Hot Coldman? Get the fuck outta here haha. I enjoyed the game still though.
Well, I appreciate what Kojima went with - hard juxtaposition between "good ol' happy times" and how violent, anger-driven and joyless everyone currently is. Listening to tapes of MSF soldiers just having fun and parties as opposed to everyone suspecting everybody, fights breaking out and everyone's spirit being pretty much broken drives the main point well
What made me realise this was a hallucination: Kaz saying "I give up". It just felt completely out of character for him to say that, especially considering the way he is in TPP.
I wish Chico got a similar role in MGSV as Paz did, instead of only getting a one minute conversation, or that Chico had survived the crash, and was involved in the Phantom Pain Incident, perhaps having PTSD as well.
TheBadwolf007 it's because spoiler! you are playing as the Medic from the chopper so he feels guilty for not getting or knowing the second bomb so he is in denial to cope
Yes, I know why Venom hallucinated Paz, but I was just wishing Chico had a similar role in the game or had survived the crash since he effectively died a pointless death without redemption.
She isn't actually alive it's an illusion in snakes head, some soldiers say that it is odd how snake is visiting the unfinished medical room which proves she actually isn't there
15:33 Now THAT Kiefer yell I did not expect. Holy hell, it's higher pitched than when he said "NOOOOOO" in Ground Zeroes after Paz jumped out of the helicopter.
Rest in peace Paz, it took me nine years on and a live stream silent full playthrough of peace walker on March 9 2019 to know who you were, what was your back story, why you important, and why you mattered. You where another videogame character who is never thought I'd feel so sad you suffered died that I'd be brought to tears. I won't salute you goodbye because I refuse to accept that your dead no matter what, just somewhere being held in cipher instead I'll do something better for the angel of peace. Peace!✌
i first felt MGSV was incomplete... but then again, it feels like it cemented MGS in the minds of all MGS fans... because there will be a lifetime of unanswered questions.. phantoms, which we can only hold onto... hope, that someday the answers will reveal itself... but they never will
Paz is one my favorite MGS characters... she only appeared in 2 games: Peace Walker and MGSV, but still... just... There's nothing that I don't love about this character- _Kojima you genius_
Listening to these five tapes, I feel, kind of cleansed away all the dreariness that Ground Zeroes had left me with. I suppose that in the end Paz truly became an Angel of Peace, and not just metaphorically, I believe that the butterly at the end wasn't exactly a hallucination... At the end of the fifth tape... how many of you said "Peace" and/or also did the V-Sign?
+ClassicToonFan64 I did say Peace in the end... Good thing I read on gamefaqs about the last photo... in the hallway damn im blind just like big boss (Medic) is delusinal about her death. I always wonderered at the first cutscene, what has happened to her in all of those long 9 years after ``she fell to the water and went into a deep amnesia´´ It all makes sense with the butterfly in the end, that there is no butterfly, just like there was no Paz... despise the sign peace is still present at the back of the medical complex. Paz was the main reason I keep playing this game, fuck quiet, fuck them vocal parasites and super advance high tech (1984 *cough*) and fuck Kojima for not letting us have the option of killing Huey in the end, bastard makes Vamp look docile shees.
I love how the first "noo" when he reimagines the scene is not so desperate and full of pain like the scream he makes when he loses her in the end 2:14 15:33
Yes because venom thought he saved her, he thought she was real, and when she "blew up" in 15:33 his had a lot of emotion in it, in retrospective, it makes me cry, because it isn't big boss saying it, it's the medic
16:35 man this action is so… AH. It represents so much and carries so much wait, the interpretations that can come if it, I my good. Firstly, it’s obviously a callback to mgs3, the scen when snake has to come to terms with his lost eye and his perspective changed, he couldn’t grab the butterfly, as he had his world turned upside down, his depth perception fucked. Here, venom can’t grasp the butterfly, because it’s not there. He has to come to terms with Paz’s death and her not being alive. It’s also important how he grabs with his mechanical arm, his phantom limb. God I love this scene
I have not touched this game or any others along this series once, but that first cassette tape is so fucking heartbreaking. You can just hear the innocence in each and every word. Fuck.
The metal gear series is an absolute masterpiece. Even with its faults, the stories that ooze throughout the games make them some of the best games I played. Hopefully konami try to rekindle this series but it might be hard without hideo kojima
People shit on TPP, but this scene just pulls at my heart strings. It’s so depressing to see the way Venom snake looks at Paz. He genuinely cared. It’s even more depressing that it was all in his head to cope with the death... something about thinking how it must’ve felt for him in his shoes really puts this moment as one of the most emotional scenes in metal gear, only behind Solid Snakes microwave scene and Raiden finally accepting who he is and finally starting a family.
People often say "she deserved it for being a double agent", but they forget her back story. She was an orphan, adopted into Cipher by Zero. She was indoctrinated by them and as they were the only family she knew, she followed their every word. On Mother Base, despite her mission, she grew attached to her new family (Snake and the rest of the crew). In her 10th diary entry she even renounces her allegiance to Cipher and pleads for more time so that she can enjoy 'Peace Day' on Mother Base. She only goes through with her mission out of fear of what Cipher are going to do to her if she doesn't. All she wanted was to have the life she never got at Cipher, to have her humanity back. Sadly for her, 'Peace Day' never came.... A truly sad existence.
A big part of the illusion as to how we're tricked into thinking Paz isn't dead is that we as players genuinely want her alive and just bought into the illusion.
I loved this side quest because this is the only time we get to know the medic, and I wish there was more. I want to know more about him, he’s the character we control in the game but he’s the most mysterious
Mgs v was the darkest of the whole series. A bunch of emotions. That’s why I say metal gear is more than just a video game, it really does pull your heart strings. What’s crazy but very well sad, is that there are definitely people who hallucinate about their passed ones, like venom snake. A hell you can never leave.
Ok, so I don't know much about MGS outside 1, 4 and 5 so bare with me - From this, we are lead to believe that Venom Snake knew Paz as well? Because surely the Snake she is talking about is the real Big Boss... right? And Venom origins are in MGSV, but he must have interacted with her a lot before he became the Phantom Big Boss..... right? I am so damn confused...
Veggie Gamer Venom snake in this game is a sleeper agent basically that was trained to think like Big Boss, and have the same memories as Big Boss as well. That explains why Venom knows who Paz is
Kaboose1475 Thanks! I hadn't listened to all the post game cassettes when I posted that comment, so didn't realise that V has all the memories that Big Boss did too.
Well he can't get the memories out of nowhere. I guess the medic, as one of Boss' closest friends, had worked on the old mother base, too. So he has to be there by the time Peace Walker happened. And there he could have interacted with Paz already. That I believe, must be the case. Otherwise he couldn't just create Paz' look out of nowhere. When you dream, your brain always creates things out of those you know. How could it work otherwise? So when the medic is brainwashed, he creates phantoms in his mind of things he knows, and fills his hallucinations with these images.
15:34 Keifer as venom may not be very eventful, but Keifer has his moments, not many, but goddamn, when he does they're amazing, that yell is legendary

why am i getting a silent hill vibe from the paz sidestory? its might be the music or the psychological stuff. is this paz silent hill or snakes? galvez said that music has no bounds, is this kojimas way of saying plot has no bounds? could this side plot be a back up for silent hills? there is that tape in the foggy area that is from PT. maybe paz was suppose to be an Easter egg in silent hills.
there was that raido in the foggy level... i had a felling when he pitched it he knew it wasent going too get past the development phases, considering how konimi wanted too make pachingo machines instead of games, so he left bits in the game too tell a meta story on what was going down during development. not just silent hills, but all his work at konami.

We wanted to see her again, but it turns out that it was all hallucination, a part of phantom pain :(
maybe she just maintained herself very well, lol.
+2236gaming Aye... it always bugged me that she didn't age a single bit... or what the hell was she doing during those 9 years too. I still believed that she was alive, like a fool -.- Well played Kojima. It's a damn shame the best part of MGSV will never be experienced by the majority of the players though.

There's a hidden conversation that can happen between Mother Base staff members. They say that "Boss keeps on going into the construction area" and how they're unsure of why. It's likely those staff are witnessing Venom's illusion where he walks into Paz' room in his mind but nowhere in reality (the construction area).
Even the tapes are "fake".

Does anyone else think that Paz"s final message about remembering the good times on Mother Base could be Kojima referring to the Konami of old?
never thought of it that way... interesting...
Nah fam
That line was recorded waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before Kojima was fired
Coleco 84 actually, Kojima was already in the process of getting demoted in the company and his relationship with Konami being extremely strained and pointing towards his removal was very evident to Kojima. This can be proven by reviewing Konami’s staff records where you can see him get continuously demoted, MGSV Ground Zero’s mission of erasing previous MGS titles, and even hearing radio transmissions of PT throughout MGSVTPP, which if you know deeper about PT, was more of a huge diss to Konami.
That nooo from kiefer when Paz gets the bomb out is epic
Andy Tesla You can hear the agony in his cry when she began to fall. This was definitely a well-acted scene in all of the game imo.
Andy Tesla So glad they replace Hayter
Wow you just made me laugh
Hayter brought a lot more emotion to the games than Kiefers facial expressions did that's for sure. Shit, no idea how you could even call yourself a fan of MGS if you're glad they got rid of the voice of the franchise, MGSV was lifeless without him.
There were a lot of theories that the cost of hiring Kiefer and how they negotiated his contract is why MGSV has so little dialogue.
Peace Walker is the most wholesome game in the series.
Tape 5 makes me sad, extremely.
Same here.
kickalcan same
Legit the saddest and most psychological moment in MGSV :( I was really hoping she had survived at first, but had my doubts.. Still cried though. Would cry again too.
Honestly thought she was alive and really believed that the chopper was RPG'd not blown up
Dark Exsphere Same :( I was suspicious that she was really dead still or something (or maybe that it wasn't really Paz) but by the time I got the last photo, I was like, "OK NOT COOL!!
Wait, you do know that Venom isn't Big Boss right? From your comment, it seems like you don't know (wording is a bit funky).
Exactly what I was thinking. You can feel pain fr in his voice, not just an acting “No”z
Seeing this years after, it just makes me think how Kojima's silent Hill would've turned out.
It would have been monumental
The music fits so well within a silent hill universe too

LOL, the magic of video cuts. In the actual game you can't actually make her look at several photos so quickly.
She DID try to launch a nuke and kill people and turned out to be the main antagonist in Peacewalker.
So why do I feel terrible that she died?
Project 2
Absolutely, and I'm disappointed that despite how much she enjoyed being with MSF and how much she wanted to celebrate "Peace Day" she, in the end, didn't tell Snake and the rest of MSF about who she was and switch sides. In the end, she chose Cipher and tried to kill Snake and thousands of other people.
Maybe that's why I'm sad she died, because she was such a complex character.

Kojima's writing might be extremely spotty and inconsistent, sometimes even downright illogical, stupid, perverse, childish, inappropriate and just bad, but sometimes he comes up with scenarios that just ooze brilliance and genius. This is one of them.
Kojima is god
The last tape was overdone, too explanatory, a bit condescending to the audience. But even so, it's still the best part in an otherwise rather poorly written story. Not that any of his stories are particularly good except in parts.

She may have been the final boss of Peace Walker, but I can't help but feel sorry for her, used by a Russian in an attempt at getting Snake to deal with the CIA operating in Costa Rica, all the while they were all being, In Kaz's own words, "Played like a damn Fiddle!!".
She was used by a Brit. Zadornov was her pawn not the other way around.
She was a cipher agent, posing as a KGB asset to infiltrate MSF.
Wait what did she do in peace walker?
@@laratr2366 Infiltrated BigBoss organisation and hijacked their Metal Gear to force him to either rejoin Cipher or she would launch a nuke at the US.

“The medic has no idea how it happend”
I have not touched this game or any others along this series once, but that first cassette tape is so fucking heartbreaking. You can just hear the innocence in each and every word. Fuck.

Guard passing by: "hey Boss, are you ok?"
Venom: 15:34
People shit on TPP, but this scene just pulls at my heart strings. It’s so depressing to see the way Venom snake looks at Paz. He genuinely cared. It’s even more depressing that it was all in his head to cope with the death... something about thinking how it must’ve felt for him in his shoes really puts this moment as one of the most emotional scenes in metal gear, only behind Solid Snakes microwave scene and Raiden finally accepting who he is and finally starting a family.
One of the best narrative moments in the franchise. Just so well dine and emotional.
That “Peace day never came.” Fucked me up bad.
paz was such a sweet child, :( sad thing what happened to her...she was really one of my favorite characters
Shes an adult pretending to be a child.
She went though absolute hell. I feel so badly for her... well done Kojima
That medic is us, the player, the person that looks up to big boss/snake
stuff that can make a tough guy cry.
15:34 the way Snake said No
*-that is not solid snake!!!*
Ok, so I don't know much about MGS outside 1, 4 and 5 so bare with me -
From this, we are lead to believe that Venom Snake knew Paz as well?
Veggie Gamer venom was also the medic that was working on Paz in ground zeroes too
Venom is a sleeper agent to be the Big Boss, he was the medic who removed the first bomb from Paz's stomach in GZ.

crazy how this is all the same voice actor of timmy turner
why am i getting a silent hill vibe from the paz sidestory? its might be the music or the psychological stuff. is this paz silent hill or snakes? galvez said that music has no bounds, is this kojimas way of saying plot has no bounds? could this side plot be a back up for silent hills? there is that tape in the foggy area that is from PT. maybe paz was suppose to be an Easter egg in silent hills.
Or maybe this side-quest was his testing ground for Silent Hills.
there was that raido in the foggy level...
i had a felling when he pitched it he knew it wasent going too get past the development phases, considering how konimi wanted too make pachingo machines instead of games, so he left bits in the game too tell a meta story on what was going down during development. not just silent hills, but all his work at konami.
The piano theme that payed during some of these scenes immediately made me think of Silent Hill 2. Glad i'm not the only one who made that connection.
I have never played any of the MGS games but what are these tears in my eyes...?
