Frances Horwich was absolutely the precursor to Mr. Rodgers. Ding Dong School was hugely popular and Frances became a celebrity. Frances was wonderful with children and her programs were very carefully written and the advertisers and their products carefully scrutinized.
Being a 1952 ‘Boomer’ (05-30-52……a Friday), I was more of a Captain Kangaroo spud. If fact, we had a sofa that was so lumpy we called it Mr. Green Jeans………named after the actor Hugh ‘Lumpy’ Brannum who played Mr. Green Jeans on the program. 🤙
