Hi, Craig --- Nice video, but two other identifiers are 1) the main center leaf will be symmetrical, as opposed to the two side leaves with the "thumbs," and 2) the main center leaf will also have a longer stem relative to the other two (sometimes called "the middle finger" for obvious reasons), as is clearly visible in the example you hold. Hope this helps.
Absolutely, no problem. I and Dan are glad to help in anyway that I can. - Craig Caudill
When I was young my mother told me a story about her friend about when they were kids. Apparently, it was winter time, and her friend's dad cut down a few trees for fire wood. Well, one of the trees had poison Ivy latched onto it, and they put it in their fire place. So, a few days after that, they all found that they had the rash and had it really bad. I don't know what made me want to tell this story, it just reminded me of it when he was talking about burning it. Sorry.
I'm currently standing in the woods, surrounded by young poison ivy. I wanted to make sure it was what I thought it was lol
Thank you very much, for telling me. Also, 'sorry to hear your loss.
Thanks Craig for sharing this information about poison ivy characteristics.
Good info Craig, thanks for posting this.

thxfor info
You are so correct that it is very dangerous to burn poison ivy
Well done vid. My neighbor doesn't believe me when I tell him the tree his son climbs on is covered with poison ivy vines so I'll refer this vidio to him. Thanks
Thanks. I wasn't considering burning any, but I wanted to get an idea of just how risky it might be.
Very helpful, thanks Dan from Boston.

Poison ivy vines are often mistaken with Virginia Creeper. (Virginia creeper is harmless). Poison ivy has three leaves in a cluster, Virginia creeper has five leaves to it's cluster.
Remember the saying: leaflets three, leave it be...leaflets five, let it thrive.
I definitely can be. If you breath in the smoke, you can get a SEVERE reaction in your throat and lungs.
I got it all over last week..i live in jonesborough tennessee
I accidentally ate poison ivy when I was younger and it got in my blood stream. I still remember it. It. Was. Horrible. My dad had to duct tape oven mitts to my hands. Glad that I can identify it now!
On a side note, after that event I've never gotten poison ivy again... and I just realized those vines I used to climb on were poison ivy. So, I guess I got cured?
You ate PI OMG!!!
I heard stories from Native Americans they eat the IVY or make tea when the leaves are red and it gives them immunity.
so as it ages it loses it's mittens on lower two leaves?
Ya, my cousin died in a horrible forest fire in California from Urushoil swelling his lungs.
Is the smoke from burnt poison ivy deadly?
I have scars on my arms from that plant. It is so bad. I need a professional to remove it from my yard.
As the rhyme goes. leaves of three, let it be.
thanks, everyone thought i was wierd avoiding Virginia Creeper
Musicin Thanks for watching! ~Craig
I like Virginia creeper. A lot of people grow it on their yards in Texas and on their fences and brick walls. It’s a pretty red in the fall
